For the question about coming from an abusive background and not feeling like those are people you would want to connect with, I relate. There is not one living family member who has not abused me and there are none I want contact with. Over the years, they told cruel stories about "weird" family members who were called mentally ill or addicts and / or committed suicide and how each of them deserved their fate and being ostracized by my family. To me, knowing what I had experienced with my family, I wondered if those scapgoats had suffered abuse at the hands of my family. I tried to connect with ancestors who had also seen my family's generational abuse. I meditated and asked any to come forward and to my surprise, I made many connections. It was so validating (understatement) and now I look forward to working and reaching out to them, and in mind, when a live family member "reaches to check in", I connect with my ancestors and they help me recenter. It's an amzing experience to have your own group of spirits who understand the lonely pain of being the family scapegoat. It really changes how you see yourself and the world. Just my experience.
Thank you so much for sharing this. There are a lot of abusive people in my family too, and this has given me some great ideas for future ancestor work. Very inspiring.
@@cheyenne057 I'm so glad! It was almost as if they said, "We've been waiting for you!" I don't know about your family but mine specializes in singling out people for abuse and trying to make them commit suicide. It's so rampant in my family that I cannot believe that it's simply organic to those who committed suicide, I firmly believe some members of my family encouraged and enabled the scapegoats to kill themselves. They would get the life insurance and be free of that annoying family member. Win, win.
Another ancestor type I read about was professional ancestors. Like sailors, military, builders etc. Read about it in Heathenry & The Sea by Dan Coultas
I actually have several altars myself. I have a patriotic altar where I work with family members who were affiliated with the military. There are a lot of American flags and soldiers saving other soldiers, a 911 tribute and photos of military family members. I also use this for when I work with the land, regardless if it is the USA as a whole or if it is local land, I work with it either way. In my altar room on the back wall is my extensive ancestral altar. Comeprised of a mirrored dresser, a bookself on each side and a few black wall shelves on each side. There is space for Calleach, another for the Dullihan and the banshee, A space at the very top on a wall shelf for Arianrhod and Nyvre, and on the far right is a space for the Morrigan. I do my shadow work with her. I have a druidic altar on my altar room. I have a fairy altar in there as well and I swap out the statues based on the time of year. I also have a money altar. It is in my living room with my patriotic altar. I have a seasonal altar on my altar room. I have a queer history altar in there as well. I have on3 for thr divine feminine, also a mirrored dresser, the same dresser for the divine Masculine altar. Danu and Dagda have residence there. I have an altar for Rihanna. My kitchen is painted red and I have altars for Lugh and Brigid. I work with them seasonally and they aid in my pagan cooking. I have a working altar where I do most of my spell work. A lecturn I keep my spell book or sometimes my BOS for when I need it. In my bedroom is a shrine to Angeus Og. In my living room is a travel altar to Ellen of the Ways, goddess of pathways and safe travel. I have seizures, so I either walk or Uber. Her protection is quite necessary for me. Protection altars traditionally are in the living room usually facing the front door.In my altar room js also a pop pantheon altar. I use it to take icons such as the Golden Girls, Wonder Woman, Xena, Power Rangers, DC comic heros such as Batgirl, or Batwoman, even Harley Quinn. The icons represent aspects or phases of life and can be stand inside for deities. I often use Xena or Wonder Woman as a stand-in for the Morrigan or Lugh. Batgirl is often a stand in for Callieach, The Morrigan, or Arianrhod, due to the cunning they all share. Pop culture is an amazing and unique way to connect.
I loved the meditation! I wanted to meet my grandmother from my mother's side, as I live into another country I lost spiritual conenction with that part of me. This brought literelly tears into my eyes. She gave me a piece of paper, where was written "You are the smartest in the family, I believe in you!"
The holiday to honor the ancestors for me always was Easter. Not the Equinox, but the Christian holiday, which is normally in April or May. The new life coming out of Earth always remindes me of my roots. The spring flowers especially. Spring Blessings to All of You! 🌞🍀🌷🌼🌙🌺🌳💗✨
About 8min in and 12 min in the light play on the left of the screen was very 'Blue Orb' these types of light plays happen in discussion of ancestors I've noticed even in my own practices. :) Sometimes light glares but you'll see a definite bubble to a Blue 💙 Orb
I was looking for a comment like this! I didn't know about the blue orb, but I did se a lot of orbs and such throughout the enitee video :)
I was thinking of my grandfather's but it was my grandmother who came and took my hand to bring me to the fire. It was warm and loving. PS my ancestors are from Danmark.
My maternal grandfather will always be with me. He was instrumental in mentoring me into my career. I inherited all his tools, and they speak from him through me in all the work I do around my home. I miss him so much. I was blessed to have him live with me during a major noise remodel several years ago. His knowledge and disposition made it a fun process.
I also recommend to those who have ancestors that come from nobility/royalty to add your family crest (coat of arms) on the family altar, or even embroider it on the altar cloth. This would add a lot of ancestral power to the altar. ⚔️
During the guided meditation, I saw a bonfire in darkness. There were many people around the fire but I didn’t know them. They were dressed in furs. One turned to me and he introduce himself as Bernik. He spoke with a Scandinavian accent and was about 6 foot with a muscular build. He was also in furs, had lighter brown hair with a beard and his hair was pulled back. He told me that I worry too much and gave me a double edged sword that was light as a feather. I’d like to get to know him more
As a genealogist this is so important to my spiritual practice. My introduction to witchcraft was in high school in the 1990s. I was drawn to the pre-Christian practices of people specifically in the British Isles. After college I picked up the mantel of family historian that my late grandmother left for me to assume. I dabbled with genealogy on and off until my late 30s when it became a serious avocation and I became immersed and connected in the genealogy community, attending conferences, blogging about my research, and speaking at local genealogical organizations.
My ties are solid British Isles (every corner), with a splash of French. I realized I was an ancestral witch about two years ago when I finally accepted that my Christian upbringing never really fit me. It felt like a costume. I didn’t have a bad experience in my Episcopal upbringing, but organized Christianity as a whole is very problematic to me.
I life in the east of the Netherlands, and I know that the most of my ancestors have lived here, on this ground. i AM this ground.
I wasn't there during the live version but, so you know, during your led meditation I was visited by an Aunt whom I miss, and she gave me a small jewelry type box from her pocket, and I put it in my own, and was asked to open it tonight while I sleep. There were tears but mostly warm hugs, which I need during some difficult trials. Thank you so much!
omg, by chance I re-found you. This was meant to be. So glad . Subscribing to your channel. Thank you so very much. 😘🥰🌹🌸
This was such a unique episode! Thank you for the inspiration 🙌
Great idea about the cloth!! Love it ❤️
Fan of symbolism ... The Tree is Great Mother. The hole is the entrance to Her womb. Through this opening is the Otherworld. The Otherworld is non-dual. All ancestors and everything else is there. Her womb is the Source of the Universe.
Scarlett you should do more meditations!!!! I loved that :).
I used a pendulum ,when I spoke with my ancestor Vladimir the Great ( the pagan)...He would like to work with me ( rituals )
Thanks Scarlet!
I would love to see a video about different kinds of pagan funerals. As someone who lives in a country where only christian funerals are talked about, I always wonder what options there are.
Look into the author Mortellus. They're a pagan funeral and death specialist. They've written a couple books.
Catchig up in the UK, great topic great info thankyou everyone .
Great video Scarlet! We’re heading into Samhain soon in Australia so this was perfect timing🥰
Great episode today! I just started Pagan Happy Hour about a month ago and so far I love it. I did the meditation but didn't want to leave where I was. The one that contacted me gave me a kind of bright white light in my dominant hand and just said that is all I need for now. I actually cried a little b/c I had to leave. They were not ancestors I knew. Is that normal? Thank you for such an interesting episode.
I love that you got to have this experience! There is no "normal" when it comes to ancestral/spiritual work. Sometimes we don't ever know who came to visit or touch our lives. Sometimes it takes time for them to reveal who they are. You can choose to communicate or welcome them to come sit with you again.
@@elisha3379 I am new to practicing any type of ancestral work so I appreciate your words of encouragement. Thank you. 🤗
Scarlett! Could you talk about pagan veiling?
So I've decided the On Air Sign holds a Mushu of sorts. A Blue Dragon or a Firefly of sort...💙
Did anyone notice the anomaly that originated from the top of Scarlet's head at 36:39? Could be dust, but if so, what stirred it up and caused it to travel up? Scarlet, is your old house in Savannah haunted?
I've been looking for a way to honor the women that have come before me, but I have felt hesitant about what to do because way back in 1708 my many great grandfather founded a new church. When I look back my family tree to him, no one in my family has left the church he founded...until me. I feel I am no longer a part of that tradition. I also think some of my ancestors would be appalled to think I wasn't a Christian. I'm searching for a way to balance what I know was a hard life decision for many of them, because new faiths were persecuted in the 1700's and being a peace church meant persecution here in the United States where not supporting the military is frowned upon.
Can a past life be considered as an ancestor
It all depends on what you believe. If your past life is in this realm then you can certainly honor them as an ancestor.
Some will disagree, but it really does depend on how you feel about it. There is also a difference between worship and honoring. Even if you do not feel your past life/lives are ancestral you can still make an alter to honor them.
I'm drinking... Coffee. XD
Do you still have happy hour at 6?! I would like to join 🖤
originally most of it probably had
to do with souls and re-incarnation
(a big part of traditional beliefs).
like in the uralic tradition they
usually made a small doll or idol (stone,
leather, wooden) for the deceased where
one
of the souls was invited (other souls
or fragments of self going to other
places, usually one staying at the
grave until the body had decomposed
when it too disappeared or turned
into an insect).
after the life soul or re-incarnating
soul had moved from the doll to the next
child of kin then the idol would be taken
to the family shrine in the forest
(where the idols of the other family
members were, even in the black and
white photographs you can see dozens
of wooden idols in shrines like these,
often resting against a tree).
of course different dolls / idols were
also kept in the living huts (like
personal protection spirits and the like)
but it´s the family shrine where most
of the ancestral veneration happened
(as opposed to graves that were
avoided).
or you could say that for a woman it was
the hut and its surroundings and for a man
the forest shrine, but even that is not
completely true because in many tribes
women had their own forest shrines
(that men were not allowed to go,
often birch groves).
it´s very complicated and there is
no one true way to do it (because it was
all local / tribal, sometimes the
woman
would live in the man´s family, other times
vice versa, you can find most of the family
types here).
also the important part is that not
you (the individual) has a child but
that one of your kin has.. otherwise
the life souls have nowhere to go,
they´re there sitting and waiting,
wtf :)
i joke but it´s a beautiful belief
system, that is actually found all
around the world (you would be
struggling to find a tribe that didn´t
have it).
it probably originates from the
resemblance part, babies resembling
the loved ones that have gone..
which is a very natural way to think
(as opposed to the unnatural ways
that came later).
also i was talking about the
northern most peoples there (which
i personally consider the most
authentic).
when you go southwards (to the
volga region, volgafinns) it´s still
totemistic / re-incarnation but it´s
more village based (agricultural
societies).
in those parts every family has like
a small shrine (family shrine) and
a bigger clan shrine (village shrine)
where they go to pay their respects
(especially when something big is
happening, like death, marriage
or birth of child).
in the old days there also used
to be a tribe level shrine, where
people from different villages would
go to sacrifice (obviously those
that had the same lineage) but the
tribe level was the first to go
(all these lands were invaded
by the orcs).
the interesting part is that there
too there was a strong divide
of sexes,
because the man and woman
were from different clans, so they
would have to sacrifice in the shrine
of their own clan, or if they were
too far to visit they could create
their own place, which was always a
possibility anyway (you would simply
escort the spirits from the old
house or shrine).
so you could say that there was three
dimensions, personal, family level
and clan level, the latter meaning
staying connected to your birth clan
(usually mother´s side) which stayed
with you through all your life (and
was passed on to your children,
women never took a man´s name or
nothing weird like that, that´s all
foreign influence).

You can take a genetic test. I did 23 and me and it went quite far back.

Always appreciate the work you put into Pagan Happy Hour and all your other video's. It's refreshing to find someone dedicated to research and studying subjects and then presenting them in such a pleasant way. I am loving the Pagan Happy Hour episode's especially! Thank you for your hard work. I would love to join your patreon, but have a couple of questions about the different levels. Where is it appropriate to pose these questions?
You can email any questions to me at arcanealchemyblog@gmail.com :)
