The chance that Sasaki would go to St. Louis is not zero but probably darn close to it. Like it or not, the harsh reality is that Japanese players go through the motions to supposedly give everyone a chance but they already have their preference in mind (Ohtani's dog-and-pony act come to mind). Of course, as you pointed out, the Cards have nothing to lose by pitching him. However, he himself stated in inteviews that he has very little experience traveling abroad and he is very picky about the food he eats. So, whatever city he ends up in must have an excellent reputation for quality food. Plus, he comes across as reserved and very economical with his words. So, the mid-market sentiment rings true but the overall ambiance of St. Louis may be a turnoff. Based on his comments, he's a quietly arrogant competitor who wants to forge his own way within a reasonably comfortable environment. My guess is he ends up with the Padres, with the Mariners as a dark horse.
One of the interesting comments of AOKI Norichika (who played for Milwaukee and Kansas and few other teams in MLB before returning to Japan) was that smaller cities in Mid-West was very difficult for him in terms of daily/family life. Apparently, there wasn't a Japanese supermarket in the city and they couldn't get daily Japanese ingredients like Miso, Soy Sauce, rice, etc. I don't know how it is in St Louis, and this was before Amazon Japan shipped everything worldwide, but I do know that there are a number of Japanese expats, schools, supermarkets, and restaurants in Chicago area. (Suzuki Seiya and Imanaga seem to really like Chicago.) I think most Japanese expats would appreciate and even prefer a city where there are direct flights to/from Japan...which would limit it to about 15 to 20 cities in North America. Realistically, I suspect Sasaki would prefer an MLB team that can execute a 6-man rotation if he wants to be part of the starting rotation, which would also mean that he doesn't have a large pool to choose from despite the optics.
Imagine how much money Sasaki could make in LA doing co-endorsements with Ohtani and Yamamoto in the “chicks dig the long ball m”sort of way that Smoltz, Glavine and Maddux used to do. He could get endorsement deals based off of his own talents and based off of being part of a big 3 with Ohtani and Yamamoto. That combined with the Dodgers being the best position team to win, being on the West Coast, having the most money to extend him when he reaches arbitration. It just seems so obvious what he’s going to do.
That would be awesome! It would REALLY help bolster us for future contentions in 2026 and beyond. It would give us some more respect in the international markets, bring in more revenue, and lilely just be an overall smart/beneficial move for the club... And I do not believe for a second it's going to happen. He'll be joining the Padre's, on a five-seven year contract. Still, for a moment, I will dare to dream of a rotation in 2026. 1 or 2. Gray or Sasaki 2 or 1. Gray or Sasaki 3. Pallante 4. Hence or Matthews 5. McGreevey Back up for injuries: Graceffo and Hjerpe. What a lovely dream that is... And now, back to our regularly scheduled broadcasting.
@KevinHuffman-m6h Dude, I don't remember EVERY player off the top of my head, and this was a spitball lineup. Yes, Matthew's would be in my lineup over the likes of Graceffo and Hjerpe.
I hear that Lars Nootbaar's moms is friends with Sasaki's mom... And Mozeliak called his agent, just to kick the tires and touch base.... There's your "annual" offseason excitement nothing burger again, fans
He would be received better here than anywhere else. If noot is the reason he comes here then sign noot 15 years 765 mil. Having said that there is no chance he is coming here. The dewitts like to get the fanbase hyped then consistently let down.
Lol “we’ll make a pitch.” Mo couldn’t sell a life jacket on the titanic, I can’t think of anyone less capable of talking a premier pitching commodity into signing with a fledgling franchise that’s early in a total organizational rebuild and geographically inconvenient
Yeah, they're just doing this to draw fan interest. (they always link themselves to a popular free agent/every offseason) They will not, i repeat, they will not sign him.
Ok, beneficial for a smaller market - - - so he goes West Coast and DOESN'T go to the Dodgers, Angels or Giants..................instead considers the Padres or Mariners. I could EASILY see Padres since they already have Darvish there who could be a mentor.
absolutely ZERO Chance that R. Sasaki ends up with the Cardinals. I'd say that ONLY these teams with ANY CHANCES to attain him.......Mariners, Giants, Angels, Dodgers, Cubs, Yankees, Mets or Red Sox. That's it!!! If none of those clubs can float it, he'll just return to Japan.
I feel a case of the blue balls coming on.
Come on, put the Koolaide down! Hahahahahaha
I don't think I'm drinking any. Did you listen to the video?
I think with the Cards giving Wolfe the ability to take part in negotiations with Arenado getting traded would convince him to refer STL
We absolutely need to be going hard at Sasaki
What a perfect way to usher the Chiam Bloom and co., and enable Moz to go out on a high note. 🍀🍀🍀🍀
Whatever it takes sign him!

Should they try yes. Will they no. Topic over.
Mo said they'll make a pitch.

We won't get him, but what a great PR move as well as getting an ace. The jersey and stands will be sold out.
Sasaki will sign with the Cardinals about the same time I walk on the moon.
😂😂😂 nice job, sir
Never gonna happen!

Why would his agent bring him to st louis but we do have Nootbaar

Maybe the guy is a party animal and signs with the Marlins.
Well…the Cardinals do need an ace…..nah. Not gonna happen
You do know matz , miles can be our #2 ,#3 ace ?
😂😂😆😆

I don't see any real chance. I just don't see this owner ever spending big money.
Listen to the video. Sasaki will have a very small contract. Not going to cost much money.
@@bschaeffer12 Ok will do.
@@TheRMcghee granted, they are probably still a longshot. But it won't be due to $$

@@KevinHuffman-m6h Kevin, the maximum he is allowed to earn per the rules is about $5-$7 mil. It's not going to be a large contract.
There is a 0% chance we land him. It’s not happening. Don’t even waste your time or energy.
I already made the video
@ 😂 fair, but this fanbase doesn’t need to get our hopes up for 2025.
Lol ..
Stop it .
Roki will never sign with st Louis..
Wont happen.
It's a video I won't stop making them
For his sake, stay far away from Stl
