Watching this makes me appreciate the unrated cut all the more. Much more unnerving and with the creepy music cues in that cut, along with the added violence. It feels so much angrier.
In hindsight it can be chalked up to the apes flying on pure adrenaline. Some probably didn't even know they were shot until later. Fire causing light blindness at night is a thing. It disrupts our natural - albeit limited - night vision. I only factored that effect in today, having not scene this amazing film in years. The guards, blinded by the fire light, would have underestimated the apes and kept firing through the flames, not knowing they were being flanked until it was too late. I think there was a little more thought put into the battle than previously believed. Simple but effective. Compare it to the low budget mess of a final battle against the mutant humans, that happened during Battle of the Planet of the Apes, Caesar looks like Ape Napoleon. Finally, the many shots of the dead apes clarify how costly every engagement was for them. I got the message, loud and clear, even while watching this film as a kid. Excellent storytelling. Something far too many current script writers could use some lessons on.
Yeah, they are the best of the sequels in no particular order. But beneath has a place in my heart because it's the first movie I saw as a child in the theater and it gave me nightmares for years.
They should on never made roddy change his speech at the end i think every American should hear the unedited version of his speech !! It actually was a powerful call to the resistance in our country !! Sometimes when things are so corrupt like Washington dc revolution is the only way to stop it !!
How would this even lead to taking over the world? It feels more like a localized conflict in one city in this fiction movie. Just saw this forgotten movie, but The situation could be resolved with proper intervention, like sending in the national guard.
Watch this movie closely in a lot of these scenes it seems to me like the humans are not shooting they're holding back from shooting they wait until the apes are right on top of them and it's too late there was plenty of men did kill all the apes but they don't shoot until the apes are around them on the side of my it doesn't make sense

Amen well said
Shout out to Ceasar for being on the front lines and the first one to rush in, respect a leader who does it from the front
When I saw the apes just casually walk though volleys of gunfire and then see only a couple of them dead I was like
“These apes have some epic armor.”
In Hollywood, fire blocks bullets.

The only one out of the original franchise that I can live without is the follow up to this one.

Settle an argument. Does Conquest take place in California or New York?
