- Following Coe's surprising defeat in the 800m to Ovett a few days earlier, the early rounds of the 1500 metres did nothing to dispel the feeling that Ovett would walk it in the final.Didn't work out like that,though....
I've read that Seb Coe was really happy after the semi-final despite being caught out. His dad Peter who was also his coach was unhappy with him and said if you run like that you won't win the final.
Great memories, thought ovett was going to win the double, but he made the mistake of letting coe ahead of him going into the last lap.
Great days! Sorely missed in the UK. What we'd do to have either of them competing and still winning in today's era.
Look what Coe did some 130 metres before and who (may wonder) could beat him from that position . From middle distance runners boone. I saw him Ovett and Cram in Hungary Népstadion at 'Nagydí j' They and Edvin Moses Larry Myrics and Németh Miklós and Paragi Ferenc (jevelin) were the greatest stars in Hungary. Coe Ovett Cram was so popular then they could fill a whole stadion if only they were run, like in times Iharos, Rozsavolgyi and Tábori in Hungary.
COE,s acceleration in the semi (when in terrible trouble) is absolutely FANTASTICALLY ELECTRIFYING isn't it !!!!! This young man was able to run 200 metres in sub 22 seconds !!!!! And 5000m in 14:06 in very VERY windy conditions in the Yorkshire championships looking like he was jogging !!!!!!!! No wonder said aquita WAS terrified of racing SEB and said made sure he NEVER DID !!!!!!!!!
Really!? What did they do that for? I thought that was about 2 years ago anyway. I'm sure I've read lots of comments on there more recently than that!
