Great stream. Yes, please continue popping into Uniqlo so we can see what they are selling. Was just there last wk and bought a wool sweater for $20! It seems to me that Uniqlo quality is better than GU the times we visited. And we always go with suitcases half empty so we can fill them up before coming home! Thanks a lot, John!
Was there 2 weeks ago and Uniglo was absolutely fantastic! Our 2 check-in suitcases weren't enough. 😂 Going back there next May. Husband and I agree to bring just 1 favorite outfit for nice restaurants. Will buy and wear new clothes while there, then put them in suitcases to take home. When suitcases have filled up, we'd know it's time to go home. 😁 Japan is our favorite country in the world to visit! ❤❤❤
I've been to Tokyo last year in November and December. I took my Winter jacket which was so thick, I had to be extra careful not to bother anyone on the train with it 😂 meanwhile, everyone else was wearing really thin coats or jackets. If I were to do it all over again, I would definitely wear something lighter and buy some heat tech to wear underneath. I only ever needed the jacket in the evenings anyway. Another thing I like to do in the cold season is get a hot drink from the vending machine and just walk with it in my hands for a while. I'd drink more hojicha in a day in Tokyo than I would in an entire week back home. 😅
Hi John! Great walking tour around Ginza. I truly enjoy venturing around Ginza. Great advice on what to clothing to bring and how much to bring. Weather seems comfortable. Next time When I am back in visiting Ginza, I need to stop by the Hiroshima store. I love Miyajima Island! Had a wonderful time visiting there. Such a fascinating and relaxing place! Perhaps one day you can do a trip out there to show us all.
Traveling to Japan late December. My second Winter Japan trip. It will also be my 10th trip. Traveling off season after I went peak Tourist season and it was a joke how many tourists were there. Thanks for the tips.
This is the warmest Autumn I’ve ever known through the decades of living in Japan, but it could change in an instant, like last year! Warm underwear is the most suitable to pack!
this is great as I love men's clothing and the shopping experience in Tokyo. Please keep up the most informative stories, looking forward to visiting in early March 2025.
The Uniqlo clothing is actually excellent quality for the price. The Ginza store is a real showplace and they seemed to have a bit more variety than some of the smaller locations.
This is great! I'm back in Japan next month and I definitely packed too many heavy clothes last time because the temperatures kept fluctuating until my arrival!! Unfortunately, I'm moving to Asia, so, big bags are a must. Just doing a week long layover in Japan. But, this video is good to see what should be in my carry-on vs. checked bag.
UNI GLO is one of my favorite stores. Living in the US, there are very views. I usually shop there when in Toronto. I was recently in Japan for 2 weeks and didn’t get a chance to go to UNI GLO even though I saw the stores in Osaka and Tokyo. I’m so ready to return to Japan. My favorite country to visit!
Perfect timing on this stream as I'll be in Tokyo next week!! I've been going back and forth as to what type of jacket/coat to bring as it doesn't seem it will be too cold over the next few weeks. Thanks for mentioning that since Japan is an island, it will feel slightly colder. The temps in Tokyo are similar to Atlanta, so I don't necessarily even wear a jacket some days. I would wait and pick up something once I'm there, but I'm not sure I'd find any women's sizes that would fit my 5'11 frame! 😜
Before I came to Japan 🇯🇵 while I was still in the U.S. I had a Tailor custom made me a poly cotton suit in Khaki. That way I would be able to have my poly cotton suit wash on a washer machine I also have a cotton necktie as well for the same reason. As for the rest of my clothes is cotton in light blue and light green button down shirts and every last of my pants they're all in Khaki.
I went to Uniqlo in jyokohama and they don’t carry big boy sizes. I did however found and fell in love with Sakazen ! They specialize in plus size wear. A lot of name brand stuff just in bigger sizes
Sakazen is amazing! They sure fill a BIG need in the market her 😉 the Main Ginza store has big sizes and the online store which sends to hotels in 24-36 hours or so around Tokyo.
Those who have followed OIJ long enough knows that John is a light packer and im quite similar in that sense. Coming to Japan in 13 days time. Excited!!
Literally going to tokyo and nojiriko next week and am going up with one outfit and buying the rest at uniqulo all about the heat tech! This vid is exactly what im gonna do!! We on da same vibe 😂 mahalo from Hawaii 🤙
Aloha from Hawaii, John! I have to bring a large suitcase because one forth of my suitcase is for my clothes and three fourths is for all my omiyage that I purchase in Japan to bring back home for friends and relatives. 😂I love shopping in Japan!
I were in Kyoto Arashiyama now, its colder in nighttime because of the wind, and I only use 1 layer of long sleeves in the daytime the sunlight was bright and a little bit hot, even for me an Indonesian the tropical climate.
I’ll be there for the next 2 weeks. I’ve seen the forecast and those temps are summer temps from where I come from lol. I’d definitely buy pants in Tokyo but, not tops. Since sizing is so different.
US chains are here like LL Bean (Hibiya, Kichijoji) and others like h&m, GAP but really, if you have it, bring it. If not sure, leave it! You can get it here cheap enough. Lugging a larger bag is not worth it. Buying one to carry stuff home, simple! So many go to Donki and get a suitcase or duffel bag.
What I did the last time I visited a cold country was bring my old long sleeved Fruit of the Loom sweatshirts. One layer for moderately cold days, two layers for down to freezing, and when it got REALLY cold I picked up a used winter jacket for 20 euros at a street market. To me fifty USD is a LOT of money. What I suppose I'd do is visit one of those - what was it called? Home-Off? Hobby-Off and Hard-Off (^o^) were upstairs. You could easily pick up a coat of some sort of a couple thousand yen. I suppose if I wanted to buy something here I'd look in "bundle" stores - they bring in used clothes from Japan and Korea and the prices are quite reasonable. Next planned trip to Japan will be around this time next year. I wonder if I'd get into trouble if I wear my "Tepung Gundam" T-shirt around Akihabara.. 😁
I was in Yokohama a few weeks ago and damn was it cold by the water at night. We ended up going to the shopping centre near Yokohama air cabin Sakuragicho Station with GU and Uniqlo to get jackets for the 4 of us.
Hi John, do you know what is the best dates over a two weeks trip to Nagoya and surroundings for a great sakura season trip in 2025. Hope you can help with some idea. Tk you.
Hmm...need to check this store here in Texas. I am thinking of just doing a carryon REI duffel (40 G size), very much like to travel very light. Will make use of my Patagonia Nano puff which is packable.
Love Uniqlo in Harajuku! And the Airism line is fantastic!! Marc PS - It's a Century at approx. 16:25 - I love seeing them when I am there. Yeah Shohei!!!
I guess so but shifting the time for 350M people is more wasteful. Changing the sleep patterns probably has more negative than positive. I hope more study is done. Just keep DTS. “early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise” -Franklin 💵
Son and I are about to travel. I like your tips; however, it's going back to the USA. I compared the weather between Japan and USA and by early December, Northeastern USA is very cold (in the 20's to 30's) that I am afraid of catching a chill upon returning to the USA. I have to go to work the next day. My son tolerates the cold quite well. In my case, I'm too old for the cold.
Whenever we go to Japan, we always bring almost empty suit cases, at least the wife and kids. They always plan to buy a lot of stuff in Japan for their daily wear back home. That said, they are Japanese (or half) and prefer the Japanese cloths anyways. I myself only need a very thin jacket for Japan when we go
Hi John... just wondering where is the best thrift store in tokyo maybe someday you may make a video for our reference. Thank yiou . Have a blessed day
Buy it when you need it. You can donate it back when done too. Uniqlo has a problem giving it to the needy (but only their brand) I’ll try to find some NPO that might benefit from people reducing clothes.
Funny, last night I was that sweater and every thing else except my underpants came from Uniqlo. All my other clothes are still in shipping crossing the Pacific.
Layers, layers, layers! Just returned after 6 weeks: Hachimantai-shi, Hanamaki, Miyako, Taro Sanriku coastline, Morioka, Sendai, Kyoto, Osaka. And, most Japanese in outlying areas still do not speak or understand English and Yen is still King. Thank heavens for Japanese bilingual family as translators. Tokyo Station navigating trains is a nightmare. But, truly an epic journey-to be repeated, notwithstanding environmental and cultural adjustments. BTW Google translate is not convenient when needing information quickly and not all merchants or locals have the app...
It’s one of many good store. Mont Bell has a nice selection at the big store at Kyobashi! Patagonia for high end, but they rarely carry the same sizes and styles. Not so cold here.
It’s 5990. $40 It sucks having to convert everything in my head within a second from yen to dollars but I’m guessing most people don’t think in yen. I won’t be perfect, it’s just a ballpark figure, that’s baked into all live stream 😉 l
Very true, hot in summer, cold in winter. Bundle up. At least the age of OUT HOUSES is over!!! I’m be had to do that in my life, the walk to the winter outhouse. Ooooh, so bad at night.
@onlyinjapanGO I've woken up in Japan, 6 degrees celsius inside the bedroom, with smoke coming out of my mouth cause of the heat difference. Like sleeping outside. With a beanie on my head, muffler and jacket while sleeping.
Hey John, Tokyo streets are amazing during Xmas! Can you make a live video showing the Xmas lights and Xmas vibe? I know its still a month away but maybe if you remember 😅🎄
We’re coming in from Thailand for Christmas starting the 13th to 28th and I’m hitting UniQlo straight away for a heat shirt couple of jumpers sweaters and a jacket scarf and gloves as we shall be cold coming from 34 degrees 😂🤦
I think they have a variation of it but let’s be honest, in all movies about the future, people have on pretty basic stuff 😂 youth decides since they buy more. Even LL Bean has gone more to that style recently. Generational, I think it’ll this sleeping bag style in 25 years. Those high waist pants and high button jackets, hats 🎩 etc all bit the dust over time. New materials and styles, just part of human’s ways. Thank goodness powdered whigs are gone, 45 button vests!
@@onlyinjapanGO haha yes, thats true. the sleeping bags came into fashion here about 15 year ago but the last 5 or so we see a lot less of them. indeed a new generatiom. People buy more fleece and wool now. less squeeky Michelin Man's walking around =P
John, packing 'light' is no problem... I always arrive with half filled suitcase when I go Japan.... the trouble is packing all these purchases when I return back home hahahhahahahah. I remember back in 2022 fall, we bought 2 extra large suitcases in Gotemba to fill in our purchases 🤣🤣. Anyways, planning for a trip to Tokyo during Christmas!!! hope to catch you there & wish you & your family a very Merry Xmas!
I'm more of a MUJI than UNIQLO shopper. John you gotta stop lying to your viewers, it's not your shoulder that is wider but your stomach. It's all those Pokémon donuts you been eating and not sharing with us😄😄
I used to be too. They do have some nice stuff, but then they went through this wrinkled looks good phase and they lost me. Too thin. Small collars. Never long enough 😂 for my American shoulders. But every now and then, something that I love! Price is usually good too.
If people have the proper clothes, I think they should be encouraged to bring those. Buying a bunch of clothes you don’t need, and fast-fashion at that, because you already have it at home is incredibly wasteful. Have a little mottainai.
Traveling light is the key 🔑 it is much easier, people bring way more than they need - it creates other problems. Right now, there are too many oversized bags on wheels. Pack light, buy what you need - use it when you get home, chances are you DO NOT need it.
I personally (and I think most people) take it all home with me afterwards and continue to use whatever I got for years. Like yeah, maybe I didn’t NEED another fuzzy jacket, but I’ll still use both once I get home. Or give one to my mom or sister if they need it. Probably a lot of things we don’t “need”, including traveling anywhere.
Good for you for being able to carry everything with you and having the resources and money to afford more than fast fashion. The rest of us aren't up on your high horse. Have some tact.
Maybe those people already had plans to move there and the election moved up their schedule. I am such a person! 🙄 And for some people, maybe it's the fact about the type of person they chose to represent them and not because they don't know what's going to happen, especially since no one knows the future and especially their future! Too many are here today and not breathing tomorrow.🤷🏽♂️
The only ones talking about fleeing are the crazy ones. Those people are the weakest ones. They don’t have it in them to leave the country. Liberal unstable people would never survive in Japan. It’s all talk. We all know what’s going to happen. He’s been President for four years already and the US did great. It’s only reasonable to assume it will be even better this time because he has experience.
No one is fleeing, thats what both sides always says. Conservatives love (r) side, which they love "japan", their younger generation, not the their older due to the war. Its basically people of johns nature that are wanting to go to japan. There are no leftists or liberals that want to go to another conservative asian country; Thats just basically fleeing to another like minded country. Just pray that japans own nationalists don't take hold, then their own foreigners would flee extremely quick. The left/liberals doesnt care much for japan; john is a bit confused on this argument. The only problem with the leopards ate my face party(R) in the US, is once the polices start effecting their own people(R), thats when they start to complain or flee; I would cite many issues, which are horrid and funny, but utube would delete it soo fast. People who assume their party is doing great, hasnt been effected "yet"... Its why I dislike the "my party never does any wrong mentaility", as they are in a echo chamber.
13:50 can someone tell me the name of the heat device I'm going soon and I need it
KAIRO カイロ Japanese heat pockets - they’re everywhere! 5 kinds of them I think.
@onlyinjapanGO Thank you!
$50 very cheap 😂 Told by the guy whose main source of income is from RUclips
Yes please do this again for January thank you so much
It's useful to know this as I'm going to travel Japan in late December 2024. Thank you dear friend.

Price is usually good too.
el problema de la ropa en japon son los talles no se corresponden con la tabla internacional de pesos y medidas...
15:19 Hey, wait…was that a jab at me? 🤔
😂I would be afraid to that my luggage would be lost. I never take anything important to me on a trip.
@@onlyinjapanGObringing giant luggages on international flights isn't good for anyone.
What happen to the hobos? Can't find them on the streets, did they all do the "harakiri"? 😂
When I go to Japan, I’m going with complete empty suitcases.
Smart! Just the clothes on your back! Mission: fill in the blanks!
We love trump!
I’ve seen more social media on weeping people wanting to flee to Japan than I’d care too 😂
