Clip studio started paying/partnering with youtubers so new people comes, they have very very good deal right now of 23 euros as "only payment", but newcomers dont know that they will need to pay more for updates
Honestly (I know this is controversial in the artist world), I’m waiting to see the prices before bashing them. There’s a lot of positives with having monthly payments roll in for us (not the company). The biggest being, they can hire more people and get new perspectives and tool/idea creation. I’m also not backing them because if I have to pay $20 a month to use csp, then I’m out. I’ll figure out sketchbook because it’s free and pretty darn good. Or I might look into art rage or one of those other bigger chunk one payment types.
Just so you know the wand tool in CPS actually has a "close gap" setting that will make it bridge gaps in linework with the max size of the gaps being determined by the value it's set to. It's not perfect of course, since it can result in false positives but those can usually be quickly fixed with the lasso tool. But honestly, it's shocking of often close gaps on its own nails it, even with line work that has a lot of intentionally lost edges. The fill bucket also has this close gap feature, as well as the ability to "overfill" the area by a certain number of pixels. This can potentially eliminate the need for a selection in the first place, especially if you intend your lineart to be visible at the end. You can even drag the bucket over multiple areas to fill them all the same color.
Not only that but the colorize feature too and the feature to select all parts that share one color instead of lassoing all the parts of the same color. I hope Marc can implement those quality of life features on his workflow soon!
Also instead of going back to the flats layer to select areas with the same color, you can set it up as a reference layer for the wand tool and it will select stuff from there even if you're on another layer.
lol I end up with a new layer with like every new thing I wanna do. It's probably not the best habit since I start losing track of what's where so I just make another layer and paint over it lol

It sounds like an expensive venture, but it's also an untapped market. Whenever I go to the bookstore, most of the books are all about traditional art or the "How to Draw Manga" books are... let's say, outdated and frustratingly amateur. When I lived in Japan, there were big digital artbooks releasing every other week teaching really great stuff.
I really needed this! I've been finding myself having trouble colouring my work recently, I've been more into line art, but I want colouring to be fun again!
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I recently spent 10+ hours on a piece but it just seems like it's lacking something, a final, secret thing that could improve the drawing overall. Fantastic and entertaining class lol! QUESTION, to be ABLE to do ANY coloring, and its where IM stuck...Dont you FIRST have to upload your artwork that is on paper from a jpeg TO a VECTOR image??? THIS IS KEEPING ME SO STUCK. I have my work on paper, i can scan it and upload it to my PC, but HOW to get that into the coloring software and color it. UGH... Thank you for ANY insight sir.
Yes, this was GLORIOUS. One of my main issues is effectively using the lasso tool, because I can never keep on my lineart. Apparently I have far less hand-eye coordination than is to be expected of a digital artist lol Although, to circumvent this, I meticulously go over the inside border of an area and just fill the color. Does it take an extra bit of time? Yes it does! Ive been doing it that for so long, I know not any other way. Marc, teach me your ways! 😭 🙏🏿
If anyone else ends up with scraps of that first under flats color when going into shading still lingering under the line art do this: Go to select, Select Color Gamut, Select the color with a low error margin (7-15,) since its 1 color, then with that you can go through and paint over the selected areas with the color you actually want it to be. Then you should be able to remove the line art much better after shading. Before you add the initial flats cover you can also think of a color that will not be on the character so when you do have to go and fix it like this you won't have issues with other similar colors already on the character like skin. If that is still taking long you can also: Lock transparent pixels on flats layer and hide the lineart, then color in the colors that are incorrect under the lineart.
I'm a beginner here. How is he letting go of the lasso tool while tracing the silhouette and not losing his progress? I thought you'd have to keep your pen on the pad the whole time but doesn't look like he is. 🤔
Once you have your selection with the dotted lines, you can add to it by holding the Shift key or deduct by holding the Alt key. A plus (+) or minus (-) sign will appear at the bottom of your cursor when you hold Shift or Alt, respectively. This works for most programs such as Photoshop, SAI, and Clip Studio.
Your " ... new love."? Where have you been, my friend? I stopped using Adobe Suite as soon as they started charging a ridiculous (and, expensive) monthly fee. I bought my first edition of CSP way back when it was still correctly titled Manga Studio Pro back in what, 2014? It, and my second purchase of the CSP software (so I could use it on a total of four computers) was worth every single penny. You're definitely a fellow artist with that quirky personality of yours. Definitely a BIG "Thumbs-up!" from me for your video tutorial. It's always good to learn all the different ways that artists use their favorite software. Thanks for the tutorial!
I'm not sure if I'm using the wand tool wrong, but when I go to my flats layer to select the color, I have the option of Refer to Editing Layer Only, Refer to All Layers, or Selection for Referred Layers. I have tried all three options and then going back to my shading layer to do the tonal correction, but the color balance does absolutely nothing. The shading is still grey like how I originally drew it. What am I doing wrong?

The tutorial looked promising but after trying it, I think it misses a few steps. In the shading part, we begin with some easy shading ("shade it like a simple shape") to your very complex sketch where you basically did not just shade, but also redid the lineart completely (eyelashes, etc). :(
In the streets:
"Hi Marc! I love your channel!"
"Oh! It's you again, let's start!"
Then it starts...
8:50 what kind of sorcery is this 🤣 Artists must struggle and live in pain. This software feature should be banned 😂 I wish it was in ph
As a clip studio painter this is GOOOOOLD!!! thank you master brunet!!
hey Marc. i am not sure if u will even see this... but i have a question. commenting here since this is ur latest video and chances of u seeing this is higher. i love drawing in photoshop. but i am broke. so is my family. i dont have drawing pad and not even chance to get it anytime soon. how do i learn or improve with only mouse? is it even possible?
hi :P how u catch your drawing with lasso so easy? and u had zoomed pict at this time so didnt see rest but u cath it some how ( im a noob ) :P
new artist and digital artist here but am i the only one whos confused on how hes able to add selections and fill his lineart so cleanly at the beginning of the video ive been trying to figure this out for ages i saw that photo shop has the magnetic lasso but cant find anything like it in clip and also cant add into my selection once ive taken my pen off the screen, can someone help me? its probably something simple but theres so many tools and setting im not even sure where to look or if im looking for a ghost tool that doesnt exist
It’s insane how much it looks like a 3D model before the lighting phase, I think I’ve seen a workflow that gives it this look in the process.
i cant shade with black, when i put the flats layer on the color is like super dark and super black and looks so bad
I wish you had an entire Playlist of Clip Studio Paint in-depth Tutorials because you seemed to have talked really fast on this one
PLS DO PROCREATE NEXT!!!
Agree!
I just--
I have to process how did Marc changed the light in the models. That was a feature I've never saw before and I'm using the software since years already 🤣
But as always, the process results to be highly enriching 💖
How convenient! I'm currently coloring my drawing as I watch this on CSP.
Sucks though they are moving to a pure subscription model which was the reason I quit using Photoshop CC and paid for a "lifetime license" for CSP......
볼륨감 ,색 을 분리? 내가 예전에 그렸던 방법을 완전히 뒤집는 새로운 방법
미친! 천재! 재미!
im scared of marc, this video's been haunting me for days in my home page .
wow! finally!!! marc brunet already make a video about clip studio :) I'm always using your method of coloring on photoshop whenever I'm creating illustrations on clip studio paint and the result becomes better and better. And I've also downloaded already your CSP brush hehee
Hi, how did you get two times the same image side by side? The overview and zoom in?
I have always used CSP and love how it works for me. However, having never used photoshop I am curious if people feel it is better. And if so, why?
Money aside and subscriptions aside. Yes, I also know CSP is charging for upgrades to the software now. Not surprised people need to make a living.
It’s so similar most would likely never notice the difference. The main appeal for me is in the mixer brush tool, but definitely not worth 10x the price.
@@YTartschool I greatly appreciate you taking the time to answer my question! (I am sure that you are very busy) That is very helpful to know! You make great content and I enjoy your videos. Worth way more than the subscribe and like fee lol
Mark really come in clutch eh? i just wondering myself how to color in clip studio's incoming subscription
Thanks for another great tutorial, Marc. I like that you included real-time shots of you painting so that we can get an idea of your actual paint strokes instead of just seeing time-lapses of the cursor movement. It's really helpful.
I would pay double the class fee if I could. Such a great video. Thanks Marc!

I can not wait to try this on my next drawing. Im always swimming in layers and it make everything feel like a slog. im so hype to try this on my next personal piece.
yo marc! brain fart, make a book of all of your RUclips tutorials! and other stuff lol. I think it'll do well idk ... can't wait for thee video
When he said "SHADING TIME" and threw some shade on her... I literally wept. Truly one of the shadiest experiences ever.
I see what you did there 😅
Awsome
I just got CSP recently! now i can finally learn it from my favourite art teacher
But I just don't know what it is, so I was just waiting till I find out what was lacking. AND NOW THAT I KNOW IT, I'm going to finish it. Thank you very much, teacher Marc.
I have just started to learn about rendering and use Clip Studio. I am so lucky that this video came with such a good timing!
The foretold clip studio video spoken of in legends!
0:11 Great figure Marc. Have you been working out?
I need a better tan but yes, ty for noticing 😘
Congrats in this Teacher's Day! Thanks for choosing such noble profession.
Thank you so much! I'm bored with old grayscale technique but can't work with direct color painting and hundreds of layers. This motivates me to paint and I can't wait to try it myself! (pss I'm using CSP too so LFGGG)
Thank you for teaching us coloring on Clipstudio Paint! I need to take your courses
I just starting use CSP a few days ago after using Photoshop for 3 years!! this video came at just the right time
This was a very awesome video, I've been looking for how to do this style of art for awhile and I'm excited to give it a try. Really hoping to up my color game!
Finally!!! The Clip Studio Paint software video~~~ FINALLY!!!!😭😭😭😭😭
One of your explosions caused my grandmother to have a stroke. But she's better at art now, so it's worth it.
Dam! He actually switched over to clip Studio, I knew I liked this guy!
This gave me a lot of insight into color and shading thank you Marc.
Mark is like a magician. He doesn’t reveal all his secrets. And I would be very interested to see how he added that texture, pattern and the background
I don't have Clipstudio but it's Marc's class and your art literally hits different and who knows? Maybe some of these tips will really help me so I'm here 😊
It should work great in almost any software ;)
@@YTartschool Looking forward to the video! Ever since I watched your video on taking care of my health, my art has improved tremendously over a day!! You're my favourite art youtuber now :)
the lasso tool is a torture
damn shame what clip studio is doing. Good video, even better advice. But absolutely awful how clip studio is becoming what it is.
aaah i need this video to be out now lol xD
This was… confusing
Thanks for the lesson CLIP STUDIO PAINT is the best drawing program!
Replying so i can get an answer to this too
Once you have your selection with the dotted lines, you can add to it by holding the Shift key or deduct by holding the Alt key. A plus (+) or minus (-) sign will appear at the bottom of your cursor when you hold Shift or Alt, respectively. This works for most programs such as Photoshop, SAI, and Clip Studio.
DELETING THE LINEART!? this man is MAD! also thanks for this man~ love the explosions by the way
This came out fantastic. Love those final touches.
Your " ...
Thanks for the tutorial!
i wish he make procreate video
I'm not sure if I'm using the wand tool wrong, but when I go to my flats layer to select the color, I have the option of Refer to Editing Layer Only, Refer to All Layers, or Selection for Referred Layers. I have tried all three options and then going back to my shading layer to do the tonal correction, but the color balance does absolutely nothing. The shading is still grey like how I originally drew it. What am I doing wrong?
im so excited to learn more things from you marc! because of you i managed to improve and get rid of my art block
