    Thanks for posting this. I lived in Farmingdale from 1950 to 1970. Went to Main St School. Got married at St. Killians. Can’t believe Moby’s and Wolly’s is still there , or was in 1999. Loved Von Leeson’s.
    Haven’t been back in 15 years.
    Many good memories!

    It is amazing looking back at some of the changes over the years. The area has gone through a major makeover. They really have done a terrific job over the last few years on Main Street, and it has been extended to the train station as well.

    I was so upset when Ginos closed around a year ago, they were my go-to place with my friends when I went to Howitt... You just cross St. Killian's parking lot(with the mail trucks/Columbus fair), and your on Main Street!
    You could even enter Ginos through the back entrance.
    I think they moved to some place on a big road in a shopping center, I haven't been there yet...
    I remember when Main Street looked like that from when I was little, I would go there almost every weekend with my dad to pick up Stuff-A-Bagel (now we get G&L), it has a different vibe now, with all the new buildings and sidewalks. (nothing has been gotten rid of, just more has been added.)

    Born and raised in Bethpage. Went to the Pawnbroker a lot in the late 70s, saw a lot of good movies at the F'dale Theater, Ate at the Turndale Diner and Fong's Kitchen. We used to walk along the LIRR tracks from Bethpage to Farmingdale to go to the movies. Was fun to see some of the old places in your video. Thanx for posting.

    Wow, I grew up there and graduated from Fdale H.S. in '78. I remember when there was a small movie theater on the corner on Main St. and going to the library before it became a bar. I bought records from Baldwin's, still have them...And my sister played in a band called Full House at the Pawnbroker.
    There also used to be a sewing store called Bezoza's.
    I loved Gino's and the whole family that ran it. Best pizza ever.

    In the 60s Ginos was a Bohack and Mandy's was a clothing store call Mid Island. We used to get our gym uniforms there. I bought my first Gibson Guitar which I still have from Farmingdale Music in May of 69 from Al Licausi. I think its a Music and Arts now

      Originally Ginos was another pizzeria called Camillios. It's was in between Bohacks and Minuteman Printing. I Lived at 22 Grant Ave across from the Methodist Church at corner of Grant and Main from 1965 - 1979. Went to Main Street Elementary school from 1969 until it closed in 1972/1973? Then onto East Memorial Elementary School on East Carmens Rd in East Farmingdale then to Howitt Jr High on Grant Ave. Farmingdale movie theater ticket price was 76 cents for the bicentennial in 1976 and they raised the price 1 cent every year. Remember the Hardscrabble Fair they had every year in the village green park next to the fire department?

    As of today, Jan 31, 2017, there are really no shops. The new mayor and his cronies decided to revitalize Main Street and also allowed for Apartments to be built. So now we have Main Street filled with Bars and Restaurants. And a 3 story apartment building going up that looks so out of place on Main Street. Main Street as you know is two blocks. That's it. And this mayor just keeps thinking of dollars digns and how we can jam as many people into two blocks as possible. And on secatouge, where the train station is, they built 3 apartment buildings., two of them were built to have stores on ground level. It's created a mess. A real mess.And they should take the shopping district sign down because there is no shopping to be done. Just bars and restaurants. So there is no place on Main to take the kids anymore. Except Charlottes.. the ice cream place but that's it.

Beautiful old building. Thanks for this. Lived in F'dale from 1967 to 1980 and never went back exhibit for visits to friends childhood homes.

    I lived there between 66 an 73, I was a kid,I would ride my bike up and down Main St, I'd stop at George's it's gone, they had fresh home made ice cream, black and white cookies ,but the sugar cookies with sprinkles were the best short bread cookies I ever had! Than Eddie's pizza! He had a juke box you could play songs for a nickel.❤

    The Variety store was a Woolworth's 5 and 10 before in the 1960s and through most of 70s; I think the store you called Mandees was another department store whose name fails me (McCall's?). In early 70s my brother, stepfather and their friend filmed a movie in there (home alien invasion one) and we got thrown out when they realized what the teen boys were doing. I remember running down the street, my bff and I, dressed in our green gym uniforms from Woodward Pkwy School, and with green make up on our face ... all of us laughing our heads off. We were the "stars" of the movie. Pawnbroker's were was a FHS first date staple and place to go after reunions for decades.

    • @bobdailey9735
      @bobdailey9735 3 года назад +1

      It was called Mid Island Department Store. Bought my first pair of boys size 18 jeans there for $4.99. Can't remember if they were Wranglers, Levi's or Lee's

    • @bobdailey9735
      @bobdailey9735 3 года назад

      It was called McLellans five and dime. Couldn't wait to buy my Spiderman Halloween costume there. I must have spent hundrrds of hours in the 3 toy aisles in the early 70's looking at toy cars, guns, water powered pump up space rockets and laser guns, Star Trek action figures.

    I was looking for farming dale high schools winter concert video for 2017, because. was in the orchestras that played, and I found this video. mainstream is a street I drive on more than once a day and its insane to see how it was in 1999. Gino's pizza looks insanely different, I know the owner I've been going there ever sine I was little. And seeing the church is insane, thats where I got baptized, where I had my first communion and where my confirmation was. It's knowing that St. Killian elementary was used back then, it isn't anymore, but its still used for religion classes I went there for those classes haha). I can't get over how insane it is looking t my hometown that I currently lie in, in a whole other era.i wish I could see Howitt middle school and Saltzman elementary, where I went as well. ( to be honest I think the was still when heir were 3 elementary schools; Albany Avenue, Northside, and Woodward Parkway, because Saltzman was used a s a middle school back then.
