    It's always nice to look at a Nixie clock while counting. In 1977 I have a Nixie digital clock in a discrete design (without IC) with around 150 transistors! built. I'm angry today that I threw them away. Many greetings from the Erzgebirge!

    So nice to see nixie tube with a proper '5' digit ! Also, only you would have those hard to find nixie driver chips in your pile of bits - that was fixed easily. It's always amazing to me to see test gear from as late as the '80s still using nixies.

      Only few types of soviet nixies with 18mm digits have the 5 made of upside down 2. These are IN-1, IN-4, IN-12A, IN-12B and IN-14. But strangely, IN-8 and IN-8-2 have a good 5, despite also using 18mm digits. Nixie driver chips are hard to find? I have boxes of them :D. Even my milliohm meter from 1989 has nixies it in.

    Lovely stopwatch, though it's mechanically FUBAR. The C bracket construction makes it very hard to access for servicing. Inice board, and it's very educating to see the thermal camera views.
    BTW, I bought a modern DIN 8-pin connector yesterday with my Commodore 64 in mind. Tried plugging it in today and it didn't go despite the good pin layout. The pins turned out to be denser than the original (and probably the old Unitra Eltra DIN connectors would be good here). Maaaaaaaan, was I pissed! Watch out for those new production connectors.

    Unless some sort of correction is being made on the grid, AC frequency should be quite accurate so not having a crystal simplifies the device and is a practical solution so long you don't move to a place with different line frequency ;) . This could be a good teaching tool for basic TTL logic.

      Yea we used plc’s and wired them to light bulbs to make a street light. We programmed in the logic gates to control times, dwell times and pulsed operation when mains goes out to make one set flash red and opposing set flash yellow. This was my highschool ap maintenance electronic elective final. Used sensors and all like an arduino is used now.. in college getting the engineering in electronic maintenance we had to totally build an entire factory wity logic gates on plc’s then apply that logic to work on circuit boards with components. That was the most enlightening course ever being able to relate various transistors, regulators, bjt’s, oscillators and keeping in mind the matrix of the compound circuits feeding other branches and all..

    Sir what should be esr value for good ceramic capacitors

    • @Pulverrostmannen
      @Pulverrostmannen 20 дней назад +1

      A typical ceramic capacitor has very low esr, sometimes below what you can usefully measure with a normal esr meter

      @santi308 20 дней назад +1

      ceramics dont go bad esr

    • @DiodeGoneWild
      @DiodeGoneWild  20 дней назад +2

      Ceramic capacitors tend to have a very low ESR and ESL, but their capacitance tends to be too low to be measured using ESR meters. ESR meters typically use 100kHz and are intended to test electrolytic capacitors. When you try to measure a ceramic capacitor ESR at 100kHz, you're actually measuring its Xc (capacitive reactance).

    • @bigboss9817
      @bigboss9817 9 дней назад +1

      No different than Si, but have to watch for excessive dv/dt and probably need bigger gate resistors. Also, a slight negative gate voltage can be beneficial for turning off, but large negative voltages are harmful SiC fets. Si: +20/-20V SiC: +20V/ -4V ...-6V. I definitely wouldn't go lower than -8V. Check datasheet carefully.
