    Wow you are truly one of the very best teachers of anything I have studied in my life! Thank you for all the thoughtfulness you put in every part of your teaching. I haven't painted a picture in 15 years but I am a 1000% better artist without picking up a brush yet. Bless you and John for all you do and for the love and the joy you do it with. Today I went to my outside freezer and it's dead, everything's thawed. I came in got out my old paint brushes and turned on Cinnamon and John cause I know at 69 I am going to learn something new, and your beautiful energy will lift my day... at 2:25 and it's already worked ❤

    I took up painting ten months ago. I watched this video for the first time about a month and a half into my painting journey, happily, before I started to upgrade my paints and brushes from the cheap beginner supplies that I started with. It is Christmas time, and my bride wanted to buy me some brushes for Christmas. It seemed like a good time to revisit this video to help my old brain to remember what to look for. I ordered some brushes from your online store. The brushes that you recommended picking in person I shopped for locally. Thank you again for helping me along my artistic path.

    I appreciate these fun fast-paced videos that are chock full of information that I hadn't yet learned anywhere else. So many things I didn't know! I haven't been as good to my brushes as I should be apparently. Learning about proper disposal of paint water in the other video was also something I wish I'd known. (So far, no plumbing issues. Phew!)

    Hello Cinnamon, I’m so glad you teach this beginners course. I really needed something more formal than the “trial and error” method that I first learned from. This time however, I have to learn to paint with my right hand and not my left due to a an incident. I’m looking forward to completing this course completely and then moving smoothly with you in the live streams easier.
    Have a happy, healthy, wonderful day 😊

One thing I'd like to say is i squeeze my brush right at the ferrel with a papertowel on either side of the brush, a bit more tender on the brush than adding any unnecessarystrokes! Just kidding totally. i just do it. when i need color in my life I go sttaight to you.

    Awesome video, thank you. I wish I had watched this before going out to buy a variety of brushes.
    Of note, I have some old make-up brushes languishing in a drawer, so I have taken to using some of those too. Fun to experiment with them for sure and I have discovered that they are great for blending and snow/clouds. My practice canvas has so many layers of paint now, but it’s easy to spend an hour or more just practicing.

    Thank You so very much for taking the time to show us how to get going! I’m happy I found you… as a choreographer, dancer, seamstress and self-taught calligrapher… everything I achieved from my teens to 63… it’s time to get back to my unrealized dream of technique…
    I have all kinds of brushes, acrylics, sealers and gel… what I have learned in a short 2 days… I could not sleep… !!! Your style of teaching is wonderful… and because you make it look easy… I know in my heart the amount of practice that it took to achieve such beauty with such ease was a process and journey… 👏🏼 much respect
    In calligraphy, it was never break the wrist.. in painting ceilings a different color than the walls, I had a steady hand as in calligraphy…
    As a recent retiree, I plan to somehow connect the sewing, painting and flower arrangements to make my home a brighter place… I’ve been collecting interesting things for years… and now… I have time!!!
    Again, I thank you and the voice that runs the camera, gets the water and your coffee… THAT in itself is familiar to me and my hubby… I look forward to practicing… and soon… letting you see my works in progress!!! All for now… I need to get moving… but first a nap! 🥳💜✨

      It is still very confusing on the brush charts, you have to look very closely.
      Any idea why the brush size is larger for the long handles and smaller dimensions brush size for the short handles?? makes no sense
      Example: #26 Bright short handle (24mm) is $17. and the #12 Bright long handle (25mm) is $26. ?

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  3 года назад +1

      There is no sense to brushes and that is what makes them hard to buy online . The cost and size of brushes is also all over the place in many brush lines. Some makers go for the effort of being sensible but many many do not. For my brushes the graphics are on the website too for easier viewing

    A useful tip; I learned from an artist that a figure 8 works a lot better than a circle when swishing your brushes in water. You can actually go from black paint to white using the same brush. What do you think?
    also, I've used Murphy's oil soap to clean stubborn brushes. Just use it straight from the bottle and let it soak for about 20 minutes. It's also good for reshaping. Just clean after with soap and hot water as usual.
    Youre great, your vids are great 👍! I've already learned so much from this one video that I've already forgotten some things. Guess I'll watch it again. Thanks soooo much!

    Hi, Cinnamon!! I'm BRAND NEW to not only acrylic painting but the art industry in general. My first ever painting was last week and I chose to paint your jellyfish and loved how it turned out! I am really enjoying painting so that's why I have decided to watch these beginner course videos! Thank you so much for taking the time to do these! They are a HUGE help! I do have a question, I am one of those people on a tight budget and I have zero knowledge on what I'm doing when it comes to painting...so my first acrylics are the Walmart essentials brand. What is your take on those?

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  Год назад +2

      Truth is they can be a little harder to paint with as they may be thin on color. If they give you any trouble as you use them up over time replace with Abstract Acrylic by sennelier as you can, These are paints in pouches and even though they are budget they are really good.I have a very short review video you will like to check them out ruclips.net/user/shorts1mHQjlF2-tw

    What do art schools teach you? Is it like, the life of famous artists ...? I'm self taught and have no idea what's taught in an art school that's supposed to give you the credit to say "I know about art". I study everything on my own outside a school. So what would make me "know about art" exactly? Just curious since I don't know what's in the actual curriculum. Also this is very helpful. I've gotta used to brushes a little bit this and the entire series is very helpful

      You 100% can hang them heads down. I got focused on answering this from a first year painting place and forgot to add unless you are using a clip drying system with the heads down

    This is such a thorough coarse. Thank you. I went nuts and bought all sorts of brushes that I mat never need, lol. CAN YOU PAINT WITH ONLY ONE BRUSH? Sorry for all caps but I think I heard you saying to put questions in caps. The reason I ask is because you seem to repeat yourself on what the different brushes can do, so is there a multi purpose brush? Isn't technique more important? Can one brush do everything? Thanks!!!
    On to next video.

      Yes you can pant with just a good bright with experience and skill. Many daily painters use very few if just one brush. That said the variety of brushes is because they make the task easier. In the end its about the painting experience more then anything

      Barbera I understand why as hot water impacts glue and some natural hair but really for our synthetics and finger shaping its the best way

    Great video! Loved all the detail! I’m a real newbie & I’m absorbing everything I can. I’m uncertain if what I’m doing for cleaning brushes is okay or not, but we had our gallon of hand sanitizer near and I tried it on a brush I thought was thoroughly clean and I was surprised to see color bubbling through the bristles as I “painted” the sanitizer on a plate. The brush was amazingly clean! So, would this be an acceptable solution, after rinsing, soap, rinsing, etc? I don’t want to shorten the life of my tools! Thanks for teaching!

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  2 года назад

      Dish soap would be a better cleaner. Hand sanitizer has a lot of alcohol which is hard on brushes and should only be used occasionally. 🤍

    Hi Cinammon. Great Series. What do you mean when you said you prefer synthetic brushes? They can be nylon or whatever type of fibre. Just looking for you to be a bit more specific. Thanks! (John in Canada)

    Hi Cinnamon, thank you so much for these very informative videos. However, I am a little confused regarding the measurements of the bright brush. In Australia 1” is approximately 25mm (as shown in the diagram) not 10mm as stated in the video. Can you please confirm the correct measurements for this brush? I’m so looking forward to painting along with your videos. 😁

    Like many, I have just found you, and boy am I happy I did!! I am 61, and have not held a paintbrush since my 22 year old was a toddler! 🤣 I LOVE the way you teach, and hopefully, I can paint well enough to show some of my creations to my hubby and son. My question may sound silly, but what do you use to wipe off your brushes with while you are painting? Just regular non lint paint rags? Thank you from Vegas!! 🥰

    This was so helpful! I wasn't sure whether to post my question on this brush video or your previous video about setting up an art studio - how do you sort and store brushes? I find it difficult to sort through all the different styles and sizes as a beginner. Thank you so much for this beginner series!

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  2 года назад +2

      There are many options now for brush storage. I like to sort by shapes and keep them in buckets and glasses brush head up. I have on bucket with my always use brushes up close to me and then add brushes or remove as needed

    Do you know if anyone makes the 1" or 25mm bright brushes with a short handle? The only ones I have found have long handles and I've never been comfortable with long handled brushes. I paint sitting down and just prefer the short handled brushes.
