I just wired my break lights on my 86 mustang. I used a Earls inline pressure switch through a fused relay. Simple! You just saved me some time on the turn signals. Thanks!

I found a way to add a three pin flasher. The 3 pins on a 3 pin Flasher would be B, E, L. Connecting would be B- a positive from the ignition switch with a fuse (as mentioned in the above diagram as a red wire to flasher). E would be a ground. I am planning to add warning lights and turn signals to my horse drawn carriage for those times I need to travel along roadways. I'd like to have continuous blinking hazards lights and then turn signals for intersections. Your video looks like it will get me part way. Now I need to figure out how to add the hazard lights so they will cancel when the turn signal is employed. Thanks!!
Easy answer... Add separate lights thru a flasher for the constant hazard then regular lights for stop and turn. This way the hazard will always be on and the lowers will be turn. The other way can be done but needs a couple relays and another flasher to make that work. Adding dedicated hazard is way easier thru a flasher.
This would be GREAT in a book, like HP series books or the like. I’m replacing a broken front left blinker light assembly on a 1997 Yamaha Royal Star. The 3 wires on the bike are Brown, Black and Blue. The wires on the replacement light are Red, Black and Black w/White stripe (B/W). I know Black connects w/Black as ground, and I know Brown is the blinker wire and Blue is the running light wire. What I need to know is which of these gets connected to the Red and which to the B/W of the new blinker assembly. Thanks, you explain things clearly. George
Are the Bosch relays really necessary? Why can't you put the SPDT switch between the flasher relay and the bulbs? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.
It depends on which switches and bulbs you are using. Check out this one. It’s what you are looking for. ruclips.net/video/uXiEoJVtHi8/видео.htmlsi=45UHXJnsZTGF4YZp
OMG, THANK YOU! I'm building an ebike rn, and I was about to try to do this with an Arduino and relays or with a 555 timer or something. This is way easier.
I ordered most of the items on the list in the video description and received them today. Everything is fine except the 3-way SPDT switches. They are momentary switches. They are spring loaded to stay in the off position. Eventhough, Amazon lists them as momentary switches, I ordered them because you specifically wrote that they were another brand and they were not momentary. It's no big deal because it's Amazon and they have an easy return process. I just wanted to let you know so other people don't order these momentary 3-way switches expecting to get non-momentary switches.
Thank you very much for the video, I have a 1973 datsun and I've installed led headlights with yellow halos which I use for turning signals and my turn signals switch kept getting smoked and stopped working because of the high current drawn so with this system problem solved, very thankful for this video and new subscriber with thumbs up 👍,have a blessed day
About to buy everything I need to do this on my sortof-street legal mud toy I'm building (missing all stock lights) Just need something to get me to and from the trails. Thanks man. I've been fighting with the stock wiring all day but I'm just gonna do this.
Awesome! Check out my other turn signal videos too. I have about 3 different methods of doing this. One method doesn’t need relays, but needs LED bulbs. Another method has a cool switch that also has some other cool features. Check out the link in the top pinned comment above, and you’ll see them all there.
Been trying to fix a 71 volvo turn signal to get it back on the street legally. This really helps me understand what's going on, and maybe I'll go this route instead of trying to find a rare oem switch.
It’s a very simple way to make it work, and extremely easy to diagnose if it ever fails. These parts are also available at every part store across the country, and dirt cheap. That’s a win! Good luck with the build!
School would have been way better if I learned this. Instead of learning useful things in life, I was told I had to play the recorder, and learn about amoebas.
morning you explain well but I have a question just on the flasher unit it has 3 pins now only talk about 2pins what about the E terminal of the flasher does it have to remain blank thank you.
Thanks for all your videos they are extremely helpful, especially this one as I’m currently trying to replace all my bulbs with LED’s on my Grand Wagoneer jeep. What I found is an LED flasher with a ground flashes faster than one without the problem I’m having is that even though I replaced my flashers the rear 1156 led bulbs for running lights at night will not work. The led 1157 for brakes work fine and so do the 1156 for backup lights and turn signals but not the side marker lights. I’ve checked the grounds and they all seem to work. It would be great to see a video on how 1156 and 1157 led bulb works different and the difference between a grounded led flasher and a non one with turn signals, brakes, backup lights and side marker lights - thanks 👍🏼
Bellow there thank you for your presentation you were right it looked very simple and you explained it perfect, I have a question, I have a 1940 ford deluxe it’s a 6 volt and I added a turn signal switch to it , I was told to wire it in a reverse positive way , I am not wiring it to the existing lights I installed turn signals on front and rear .can you explain it more clear or is it just how it sounds, thank you 👍

Thank you for very informative video and your generous contribution to public knowledge base. My comment would be to request a companion wiring schematic drawing to further clarify.
Thank you for your videos, they are really helping me but I have a query on the connection on that flusher relay, why are there two pins whilst some others has 3pins
Brilliant video, but my trike has 2 push to make switches, how could I use relays and the flasher unit to make it work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This video is AWESOME! really helped me understand the wiring in simple terms since im new to this BUT i need to let you know that the switch you linked is in fact a 2 way NOT a 3 way switch of course kinda my fault cause i just hit order but thought you would like to know
Thanks for letting me know. I just corrected it! (Though feel free to double check me!) The ones I originally bought were no longer on Amazon, so I had to find a different set and apparent got the numbers mixed up! DM me on Instagram if you can. @Ratty_muscle_car, and maybe I can help you out!
@@WiringRescue Thanks for correcting, of course my fault cause i was excited and ordered without looking, i picked up a switch from a parts store im gonna try this exact setup tomorrow
I have built a rally car full wiring using Ratty Muscle cars diagrams , every thing but one worked PERFECTLY . The indicator or turn signal as called in the USA would not work or as is it did not flash just lit up . I spent weeks trying to resolve this eventually some one suggester a digital flasher unit , Bingo it now works and flashes 😊
Simple question from an electrical dummy. Can I splice into my existing turn signal wiring and add a toggle switch without interrupting my park lights through the factory settings?
Hi, so glad I found you. I just bought a new CFMoto Z force 950 side x side SPORT. Sport in important because that model comes with head lights, high and low beam and taillights. However, there is not a dedicated turn signal on this machine. Thus it is a SPORT model and not a street model. I Think your demo will work good for what I want. Just rear set of signal lights. So my question is : do I need to run 2 flashers or will one suffice? What gauge wire is on your setup and what amp fuse should used? Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for posting this kind of info for electrical dummies like myself.
Thanks for watching! I’d recommend this circuit instead. But make sure you use LED’s if you go with this design. ruclips.net/video/uXiEoJVtHi8/видео.html
Thank you Jeremy, yes I had decided on LED"s. I web captured your layout and have it in the garage and the parts to get started, routing is going to be a big problem no easy wiring paths on this machine. Thanks again for the help and I did subscribe and rang the bell.
Check this one out ruclips.net/video/Io_i9016o10/видео.html as it is a great option and then there is this one too ruclips.net/video/h6F9PauqvXc/видео.html . Between those two videos, you have a few methods of wiring brake lights. Good luck!
Awesome thanks for the video! I have a roxor utv and getting it road legal. $15 instead of a $500 wiring hardness? Way better! Although I may need to buy another $10 in wire lol! Best video to make own turn signals!
works very well! 😀👍 I also want to install a light on the dashboard, either that lights up, or even better, that flashes when you turn on the turn signal lights, typically LED diode with two cables, how does this possibly connect?
Answer to my prayers ! I’m gonna use this on my 1966 Honda C100. Great videos to help with college too! Might you have any knowledge on hooking up engine stators to batteries etc that’d be cool too! Thanks man!
Great Video. This solve a lot of issues. When you have time to create another along this topic, would you address this issue. Most cars since turn signal were required and us the 1157 bulb use the dimmer filament for the tail lights and the brighter one for the brake, turn signal, and the hazard. Would you demonstrate how this could be wired. I know you said the white wire could be used for the tail light, but how would you wire to have the turn signal, brake, and hazard on the brighter filament? Thanks and I will watch in the future for another great video.
So I'm building a school bus little library...tried this wiring exactly like you did with the exception of I'm using 12v led lights like marking lights....so the lights will light up but will not flash....I even tripled check my wiring....so is it that have to use the 1157 bulbs versus led?? Thank you for any help
This makes sense definitely when starting from scratch. However, On my yamaha viking, the brakes are already sensitive, and I wanted to tie the turn signals into the rear lights, but still let it flash while the brakes are illumninated, is that possible? (In my sitatuation, I would be adding 4 new turn signals to front, and attempting to re-use the stock rear brake light/brake/running light)
Hey, I follow you RUclips movies because they are clear. I have one more question about the indicators with the double relays ! How can you make a dachboard light blink without everything flashing ? I'm rewiring a VW Beetle with relays which is not so obvious ! anyway, thanks for all the well explained videos. Greetings from Belguim
Newby question: Why could you not bring hot wire from flasher directly to 3-way switch and out to bulbs? I guess my question is what is the purpose of the relay in the mix? Thanks!
Stay tuned! I'm probably going to do that video next. It's totally doable, but you need to make sure you use the proper size bulbs & switch. If you don't, you'll burn out things. While fire is awesome in a fireplace, it's terrible in a car!
I set up my cross cart exactly as described and I have lights and when I use the turn signals they light up but no blink! I tested the blinker and it is fine and it is for led turn signals. Every thing functions except the turn signal blinking. Any idea's?
Swap the two wires around on your turn signal/flasher and see if that fixes it. Some of them only work 1-way. Keep me updated, and we’ll go to step 2 if that doesn’t work.
Excellent video sir.. quick question, how would you tie this setup to the ignition so that turn signals become operable only when key is in on position. Thank you for your patience.
Is there a way where I could use a T10 LED parklight and make it work also as a signal light that turns on simultaneously with the dedicated signal light? Thanks in advance!
Any recommendations for insulating the various connections and pins? Looking to do a setup on an e bike and so some of the connections will be exposed / accessible.
Shrink tubing is a great option, and there are also really nice connectors you can buy with shrink tubing built onto them. They are pricey, but nice if you need a weather tight seal. Search for 3m scotchlok heat shrink terminals.
What is the purpose of the two Bosch relays? An OEM system only uses the one flasher relay. Also you can only use the other 1157 filament as a side light as its dimmer.
The purpose of the relays is that it allows you to use a smaller amperage switch. An 1157 bulb can pull up to 2.1 amps (from what I found), so if you wanted to run two tail light bulbs on each side+the front signals, you’d burn out a 5amp switch if you didn’t have the relays. That being said, you are right, that if you keep all of your bulb amperages low (maybe by using LEDs), you could skip the relays entirely. I actually will be making a video about that soon. I also have this as another option - ruclips.net/video/Io_i9016o10/видео.html

Thanks, you explain things clearly.
George
I wired my hot rod using your diagram it worked super thanks but I need to add a light inside so remember to turn off turning signal
Would it be better to put the 552 after the relay so that it only blinks when the switch is on. I guess you would need 552s for that to work.
The flasher only flashes when the bulbs are turned on. If there is no electricity passing through the flasher, it is not cycling on and off.
@@WiringRescue Thanks!
OMG, THANK YOU! I'm building an ebike rn, and I was about to try to do this with an Arduino and relays or with a 555 timer or something. This is way easier.
I’m thrilled that you find it helpful! Thanks for watching!
Life saver my dude, my 84 Chevy is saved
Heck yeah! I’m glad the video helped you out!
Thank you very much for the video, I have a 1973 datsun and I've installed led headlights with yellow halos which I use for turning signals and my turn signals switch kept getting smoked and stopped working because of the high current drawn so with this system problem solved, very thankful for this video and new subscriber with thumbs up 👍,have a blessed day
You need to add in an LED resistor to each turn signal, that's your issue.
Thanks for the help. Your wiring got the tail lights working on my 1929 hot rod
That’s fantastic! I’m thrilled that my video was able to help you out!
Great tutorial. Thanks for the upload! I love the backing board for the circuit visual.
Excellent! I'm glad you like it. If you haven't checked out my other wiring videos, please do! They are done in a similar way!
Thanks for posting this video I'm trying to learn how to do this set up it's really cool that you made this video
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching them!
Excuse me Brother does this set up work for front turn signal light bulbs for a 2000 Chrysler neon ?
We did this in high school science. Still super cool
School would have been way better if I learned this. Instead of learning useful things in life, I was told I had to play the recorder, and learn about amoebas.
Drive Away Drivers needs to see this !
Great video, thank you for the insight. You make things much easier for a lot of hobbyists. Hat off to you
Thank you much! Just trying to help out my fellow car enthusiasts!
morning you explain well but I have a question just on the flasher unit it has 3 pins now only talk about 2pins what about the E terminal of the flasher does it have to remain blank thank you.
Exceptionally helpful and well done presentation. Thanks.
Thank you! I really appreciate the kind words.
Bellow there thank you for your presentation you were right it looked very simple and you explained it perfect, I have a question, I have a 1940 ford deluxe it’s a 6 volt and I added a turn signal switch to it , I was told to wire it in a reverse positive way , I am not wiring it to the existing lights I installed turn signals on front and rear .can you explain it more clear or is it just how it sounds, thank you 👍
Great video!! Saved me loads of frustrations and also found out I had a bad relay and bulb socket. Thanks for sharing this info.
Very solid. I hope to add a 3rd signal to each side of my big van. This will be very helpful! 👍🏼👍🏼
I’m glad it was helpful!
Why is the relay needed? Could the bulb simply be in series with the flasher?
Check out my other videos for details on why you need a relay. I’ll give you links. Here is the one for wiring this circuit without a relay.

Thank You sir for your great simple explanation. Much appreciated 🤠
Thanks! I appreciate you taking the time to watch it!
Bro your videos are amazing im learning to re wire my motorbike with no knowledge at all and this has helped 🙌 👌
Glad the videos helped you out!
Thank you for very informative video and your generous contribution to public knowledge base. My comment would be to request a companion wiring schematic drawing to further clarify.
That would definitely be a nice addition. I’ll look into that.
Hi,
Great explanation but why do you need a flasher and a relay?
The though the flasher relay was an all in one type thing.
Regards John
Good question - stay tuned for an upcoming video where I explain exactly that.
Wow, you made that so simple! Can you use LEDs the same way
Sort of. You need an LED flasher to make them work. Check out this video I made that has some more details: ruclips.net/video/hDmER_pNask/видео.html
Would you explain how to wire two 5 pin pushbutton switches for turn signals on a motorcycle. 1 switch for front and one for back. Thank you, Richard
Thank you. Whe wire a truck like your diagram and now the 2 back blinkers flashing together. What can it be.
Simple question from an electrical dummy. Can I splice into my existing turn signal wiring and add a toggle switch without interrupting my park lights through the factory settings?
Awesome way to retrofit vintage cars
What about if you need to also install additional flashers light bulbs in a newly home made dashboard?
Awesome tutorial! Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Oh and for wire and fuse size check out this one. ruclips.net/video/EhzN6UdnmPA/видео.html
Thank you Jeremy, yes I had decided on LED"s. I web captured your layout and have it in the garage and the parts to get started, routing is going to be a big problem no easy wiring paths on this machine. Thanks again for the help and I did subscribe and rang the bell.
Thanks for the video, I’m confused how the brake lights that use the same filament wire in.
Best video to make own turn signals!
does it work on LEDs? (lower resistance?)
Only if you use an LED flasher. Check out my wiring playlist, because I have a few videos specific to LED’s 😊
works very well! 😀👍 I also want to install a light on the dashboard, either that lights up, or even better, that flashes when you turn on the turn signal lights, typically LED diode with two cables, how does this possibly connect?
Hmmm I’ll add that to my future video list!
Answer to my prayers ! I’m gonna use this on my 1966 Honda C100. Great videos to help with college too! Might you have any knowledge on hooking up engine stators to batteries etc that’d be cool too! Thanks man!
Thanks for watching! I’ll add a starter circuit to my to do list!
What do you plug in first vs what's connected last
The order doesn’t matter. Just make sure you have all the fuses done properly. Check out my fuse size video if you haven’t already.
You will need to get an LED flasher to make it flash with LEDs. I have this in some of my other wiring videos, check them out!
@@WiringRescue okay and thank you
Can I add a brake light circuit too? needs to share the same lights as TS. Thanks.
thank you i can now make my dream a reality of installing indicators on my cat!!!
If cats are anything like bmw drivers, they won’t be using their turn signals.
@@WiringRescue Thank you!
This is a great video. Thank you. Show more like this.
Thank you! I’ve got a whole bunch and I’m always making more! Check out my wiring video playlist!
Wow. Very well explained in detail. Thank you.
Excellent video sir.. quick question, how would you tie this setup to the ignition so that turn signals become operable only when key is in on position. Thank you for your patience.
You so awesome thank you so much my buddy 125 don’t have bunking no more! Helps a lot
Glad you found the video helpful!
Is there a way where I could use a T10 LED parklight and make it work also as a signal light that turns on simultaneously with the dedicated signal light?
Thanks in advance!
Nicely done , Thanks ! I loved the display board
Glad you liked it!
Are you able to tap into the N.O side of the circuit and add lights?
Any recommendations for insulating the various connections and pins? Looking to do a setup on an e bike and so some of the connections will be exposed / accessible.
Shrink tubing is a great option, and there are also really nice connectors you can buy with shrink tubing built onto them. They are pricey, but nice if you need a weather tight seal. Search for 3m scotchlok heat shrink terminals.
@@WiringRescue thanks! Well that opened up a whole new can of worms…. Learning about connectors!
@@sfscout9340 - haha! Good luck! I’m cheering for you!
Does this circuit also accommodate a brake light switch? Thanks!
