Worked on cadets 63-88, so i have a thought: copies of manuals on internet. you must have fixed starting soionoid or wireing but i am sure the saftey switch may do it. I notice all the engine cooling shrouds are gone, very ill advised. The mule holds up the deck, never saw it. This is a great exampel of cadet durability. God bless you both.
Angela you are such a great helper! You both are an inspiration! Working together. You two are amazing and to get it all back together is a great job done. You will get it...seems like a good old work tractor!💪
No idea how I missed this one. Got it now though. I love how you both work together on everything. Angela is not afraid to get right in amongst it all.
My 5 year old little brother heard my dad say he needed to stop and get gas before we went on a trip to Canada. While everyone was getting ready inside, my brother took the hose and filled the gas tank with water!!! 😣 I do not know how he got that gas cap off!!!!! He then ran in to tell my dad he filled the car with gas and we were ready to go. The look on my dads face!!! 😨 My dad did not even yell at him, because he knew he was just trying to help. My dad could fix anything. He pulled the tank, cleaned it out and we were on the road the next day on our trip! He explained to my brother that you have to use special gas to run the car. Thank God, my brother told my dad! If my dad started the car, it would have made a huge repair! That was 45 years ago when car repairs were a lot simpler then today.
I watched you do this from the comfort of my home and as i did i was thinking what a bloody complicated job . but you guys did it . AWW.....I wrote that before i got to the end , Sam Im so saddened to hear it failed ....after all that hard work.
You were talking about the bolts having lock washers on them, saying it is so they would not shake off and that is true, although in 1967 things were built to last and or be rebuilt. today everything is throwaway... Great little tractors, although I guess it is getting hard to find parts for them now days.. First time I ever saw the clutch apart on one of those. Sorry things didn't work out as smoothly as it seems it would... Best wishes.
This reminds me that my 93 chipper/shredder/vacuum has a knock in it that needs investigation. It’s been sitting a while also. Your 🛠 putting me to work. I needed the motivation...
Love how well you work together! At first I thought you had worked repairing or building cub cadets in a previous life. You describe the process step by step! Then you said, " had done the clutch a few years ago. LOL
Yeah... this one has been a regular wrencher since I’ve had it. Always something needing looked at or fixed. Very much a love hate relationship. Thanks!
Well what an adventure! And such a bummer. Pretty funny that the first ad that played during your vid was for cub cadet tractors! Hope you got it fixed! ❤
I just had my daughter's starter on her rebuilt by a guy for a hundred dollars. But I know for a fact that it's a better starter than a shelf item. I think you're a very smart and dedicated man. Bet you can rebuild the starter generator your self
Just a word of advice from a guy that has been a mechanic way longer than before you 2 discovered America. Please do not wear a watch or ring when working on mechanical things. Things can slip and hit your rings and smash them into place on your fingers and any type of jewelry that makes contact between a hot wire and a ground will instantly start glowing and burn the snot out of you. Take care of your fingers because God only gave us 10.
🌈. Sam things will work out for you , when you get it fixed you'll have so many things growing around your Homestead . You'll be sharing them with Family. 🌈. 🙏🙏
Your judicious use of percussive maintenance, as NASA called it when the Mars Rover was instructed to hit itself on the “head” with its shovel recently, is epic.
and when they boys confessed their helpfulness I hope you thanked them for letting you know - our family has one of those stories but it includes 20 tractors before the start of harvest
Hopefully you keep the tractor and get it fixed. Keep us posted. Your wife is a trooper, I don't know many that would get their hands that dirty. Great partner!
Sam y'all got anybody local who still rebuilds starters/alternators/generators? Might be worth a shot to let them look at it if you do. You'll get it fixed with the help of the your lovely bride either way!
Sorry Sam, that it's going to be another day of work that sets back your dreams but it will come to fruition. I know from what I see here that you don't give up and never say never if you have the belief to accomplish it! Angela, you're a trooper and I love that you use the tools as well. My favorite hang out if not in the decorator store is Harbor Freight.......I can't list all I've purchased there as there's not room but I've used all of the things and love it! Have my own tool box with sockets to include deep sockets and love everything about tools. I helped my hubby for years on his dozers and etc but those were a bit heavy by I could do some easier stuff........LOL You and Sam would have fun in our side yard....we have a lot of machinery that always needs something done to it. Hoping for good weather so we can get some stuff done here. Lots of cottonwoods to take down and dig out stumps etc......and a road to grade and lay fresh gravel.......does it ever end? NOPE. LOL Blessings and waiting for the next vlog!
You 2 crack me up. My husband ran an old ugly Kabota lawn mower for 20 years. He says why buy new when you can fix it. I told him I would have a new baby if he sold it. One day I came home and he said look around. What is missing. Good lord it was the Kaboto lawn mower. Thank God I am 70 yrs old and he didn't want a new baby. So we bought a new used baby lawn mower.
I used to have a Cub Cadet with this same type Starter/Gen. I'm not a big fan of these. Loved the tractor though. The newer starters and Flywheel type are in my opinion a much better set up. These were real work horse tractors very strong machines, mine was Hydrostatic with hi and low range. I believe it'd pull a full size pickup truck. You and Angela will getter fixed.
You are fine, I think I would have cried after all that work for nothing, sometimes I feel that way on one of my sewing projects when I have to take out all the seems and start over
Man that sucks! When you get to the "finish" line and just hope to hear it kick over, only to get nothing, is heartbreaking. I'm there with ya brother!
I have a 102 which sat for a couple of years, and the starter-gen locked up with rust. I took it apart and replaced the bearings, and it's as good as new. You might have the same issue, or maybe you solenoid is bad. Put a screwdriver across your main solenoid terminals and see if you get the s-g to turn.
Hey Sam. I don't know if this will help. My 67 ss12 uses an old starter generator and one thing about them is you have to polarize them. Maybe this helps maybe not but I applaud a young couple doing what your doing and hope my outdated antique knowledge helps
Exactly! We've always told them if they are honest they will not get into trouble as much. This was a time where those words were put to the test for us. They did good so we had to as well. :) They were scolded, but nothing otherwise.
Don't be too down Sam . It's fixable . Just go back through it , if you have gas and spark it will go . If I lived anywhere near you , I would call in to give you a helping hand , that was my trade in the early years . Mechanic .but I'm over the pond so . Sods law as we say . It's just an elimination process thats all . Go back to it with a fresh mind . You will solve the problems UC . Take the starter first ,could be just stuck with sitting so long . sometimes a tap with a wrench loosens them up or jump the solenoid try the old crank and tap method to see if it gets to spin . . You will find it no problem . Where did you learn your mechanical skills . Your a handy fella . Can you build a pick up bed like your brother did , seen that yesterday . He's a funny guy 4 sure . Chin up Sam carry on regardless . Keep up the good work . Get Angela to give it one of her specialist demo hammer taps . 😂. .
You can put the ground on the frame and positive from jumpers cables to the positive of the starter to see if your solenoid is bad.if it turns over then it's your solenoid.
Have you checked all your electrical connections and do you need your voltage regulator hooked up to start your tractor or is that just for your lights?
Good Grief! Y’all are handy!! Where did you learn sooo much? I am totally impressed by everything you two know how to do. Have no doubts at all that you will success in all that you set out to do. Plus I watched this video after you finished tilling up the garden. 😉
Awww, Sam 😢😢. After all that hard work too ! Looks like another new part ..... Hopefully you’ll conquer this soon so you can have your bigger garden 🙏. ... and the boys have learned a lesson to not put dirt in the tank 😳 Just to make you giggle, tho - I had glanced away from the video just as you were saying something about needing “ liquid encouragement “ ... I thought you were reaching for a DRINK 🥃 🤣. Maybe, NOW it’s time ! 😜😎👍. 💋❤️
I did the same thing you did with your tractor and it did not came out the same, the new cluch will not let me go in gear.My clutch kit had the troutbrering and I replaced it but the clutch peddle does not stop the clutch and the paddle is very low.
Yeah, there was a follow up video on this one not long afterwards. It was the starter generator rusted up. I took it apart, cleaned it, and it worked. :) But now we've gotta ask... are you watching us from on that hill over there? We were working on it again yesterday! LOL Clutch teaser spring was broken, so I rebuilt the driveshaft/spring/bearing assembly. We're fixing it and cleaning it up to sell -- we don't use it much and hate to see it just sit around.
You don’t have to take grill off,nor unbolt engine to do this. Disconnect drive shaft in front of transmission. Undo the hanger that the pedal attaches to. That drive shift will lift out of there on the right side of the tractor. Done it several times on a cub cadet 108. Maybe this older one not work that way, don’t know. Replace throw out bearing, teaser spring, and any bushings. Clamp shaft in vise, tap gently to compress spring, drive out roll pin. Replace plates. Don’t get wd40 on those plates! There are some videos of how to compress the spring.
Hello, I think your tractor will start if you connect all of the electrical back onto the tractor. I heard something clunking when you tried to start it. It sounds like a solenoid engaging but it’s not turning the engine. You mentioned that it has a starter/generator...if that’s true then the generator on the front of the engine also acts as the starter. Reconnecting the regulator and grounds to the main chassis should make everything work properly. Hope this helps.
Did you try sitting on the seat? Riders like that generally have a seat switch that makes it such that you have to be sitting on it for it to turn over.
Take the belt off and see if it run by itself. If it does then check the engine to make sure it is not locked up. If not connect a battery directly to the generator without the belt. It should run like a motor. If it does then reinstall the belt. Then try again with the battery direct.
The same thing happened to me pull apart the starter/generator and there’s two little tabs on the side were the wires connect they probably fell out of the groves while you were moving the engine
Sorry Sam. My son and daughter put gravel in my gas tank when they were little. Instead of flushing it out I just never let it get below a quarter of a tank.
Don't forget that $70 solenoid you mentioned when removing the grill --- it will need grounding with the circuit to work ....Might be the source of the problem?? Of course wasp nests in the starter might cause probs too... Sorry ...

Cool watching her work and she’s good at it plus she knows what she’s doing, you’re very lucky to have her and kids 😊😊😊
Gotta love a woman who isn't afraid to wrench with ya. * Applause
That is what I was thinking. He is lucky to have Angela helping him. She is amazing. So is Sam. They are both amazing. Not defeated.

I do love tinkering with the small engines. Car/truck engines, not so much... 😂 -A
@@sam-and-angela lol on the Car/Truck engines but I agree 👍😆...
Endeavor to persevere. It will happen. Thanks, great video. stay safe and well.

Wow that a old tractor👍
Hopefully you keep the tractor and get it fixed. Keep us posted. Your wife is a trooper, I don't know many that would get their hands that dirty. Great partner!

You two work very well together, and no swearing 🤬. Looks like a workout.
😎
You will get it! 🤞🏼🙏🏼😊
It will work out,all is not lost
Get you some PB blaster great for helping with those rusted bolts.
Sometimes you can tap on the side to get them freed up from sitting. I would try that first
Haha ... oh by the way dad... you might check the gas tank.
Exactly!!! 😑😎

So sorry to hear this, don't loose heart it will all come right.....
well at least the boys was honest. Points to them for being honest and telling you about something before it caused more issues.
Exactly! We've always told them if they are honest they will not get into trouble as much. This was a time where those words were put to the test for us. They did good so we had to as well. :) They were scolded, but nothing otherwise.
Keep the faith.
How hard is it to find parts for a late 69s 122 tractor these days? Thx
Oh my goodness so sorry you guys tried so hard😒 keep trying don't give up,you guys are awesome😉🌻🙋
Did you try jumping it to the starter generator
who makes the rotating socket wrench your using?

Can you take the generator some where to have it tested?
Can you get a locking gas cap too? Sorry it didn't start up.
Hey I have a cub cadet 214 and do you really need a sediment bowl or can you just do a filter and I have a lot more things I need help with
I don't know, but what about spark plugs and how long was your warranty for?
Have you checked all your electrical connections and do you need your voltage regulator hooked up to start your tractor or is that just for your lights?
Are you sure the motor not locked up? And you push or pull to start it ?

Should change the head gasket at the sametime, make sure the valves aren’t stuck, clean the points
Did you ever get this thing fixed was it your starter generator or was it the safety switch underneath the tractor
Yeah, there was a follow up video on this one not long afterwards. It was the starter generator rusted up. I took it apart, cleaned it, and it worked. :) But now we've gotta ask... are you watching us from on that hill over there? We were working on it again yesterday! goodness, my hubby has 4 of those lol.....(tractors like yours)

That’s what I was thinking too..lol
From grease monkey to high teck. That's the way we roll
You should put a pipe on the end of your wrench so you have more leverage
All that work! 😩😩 But on the bright side you don’t have -23 C today like we have! 🥶🥶 Nothing growing here anytime soon. Stay safe guys.👍😁🇨🇦
try a test light on the main starter gen wire when you try the starter . or boost straight to it to ensure it is the starter not the solenoid
Change the fuel filter too.
While your waiting for the liquid motivation to soak in you could get some of your own (for motivation)😙
It's easy to rebuild it
You will fix it it can't defeat you your too smart for it
Take the belt off and see if it run by itself. If it does then check the engine to make sure it is not locked up. If not connect a battery directly to the generator without the belt. It should run like a motor. If it does then reinstall the belt. Then try again with the battery direct.
Also have a 122
Need battery powdered impact would help you a lot.
The same thing happened to me pull apart the starter/generator and there’s two little tabs on the side were the wires connect they probably fell out of the groves while you were moving the engine
Why the aversion to using penetrating oil? Would make almost every single bolt/nut far easier to deal with and not risk shearing off anything.
Hey,, fix the Gen/Starter yourselves. It would make a great vid. Easy 5 on a scale of 10.......................
You did it, good job.....!!
Sorry ...
