TOEFL stands for Test Of English as Foriegn Language
It is prepared and supported by ETS( Educational Testing Services)
ToTOEFLefl scores are accepted by more than 11000 universities in all over the world.
More than 5000000 have taken the TOEFL test so far.
the 2 types of tests are :
1. TOEFL ibt
2. TOEFL Essentials
There are 3 variations of TOEFL ibt
1. TOEFL ibt which is online taken at an ets verified test center
2. TOEFL ibt home edition which is taken online at home ( look for special requirements for toefl ibt home edition on the website)
3. TOEFL ibt on a paper that has 2 parts
a. reading, writing and listening online on a computer at a test center
b. speaking on a Computer from home

IELTS stands for International English Language Test Service
There are two types of it
1. Academic IELTS
2. IELTS Life skill
Q:which one should you take?
A: It depends on your purpose.
If you are applying for Graduate, undergraduate or postgraduate programPrograms at universities and colleges, You would take IELTS Academic test.
But if you want to migrate or work in English-speaking countries, you need to take IELTS Life Skill to prove your level understanding in English Language.
