Apart from the name, Vlad Drakov is nothing at all like the historical Dracula. Drakov fights a war of conquest; Dracula fought a completely defensive war. Drakov is a mercenary leader, hated by his subjects; Dracula was a legitimate prince, whose subjects were fanatically loyal. Drakov forbids his subjects from arming themselves, Dracula _made_ everyone arm themselves, and founded new orders of citizen-soldiers. Drakov enslaves other races; Dracula hired them.
Ironically, the Bela Lugosi version of Strahd is much closer to the historical Dracula in both temperament and governing style than Vlad Drakov could ever be.
This is to say nothing of the fact that Drakov is a native of the continent of Taladas, in the DragonLance campaign setting, which has neither a gothic horror setting, nor any pseudo-Romanian/German/Russian/Slavic names.
I agree, he is not an exact representation of the real historical figure, but the real Vlad Tepes does seem to be an inspiration for the character, considering the name Vlad Drakov (Vlad Tepes, or Vlad Dracul), and the imapalation of his victims, enemies. Aside from that, he has a different fantasy background and persona, and the realm is more inclined to be a medieval fascist state, than a faithful or fantasy representation of Walachia.

Though, I wouldn't QUITE call Von Drachenfels of Mystara fascist... Not quite. If anything, Thyatis' Hattias is far closer to fascism. Just a side note.
Glad you like the conection to the previous videos! As for Von Drachenfel, I didn't mean to say that the character is fascist. But he certanly have a more modern - early twenty century - look, thats why I used his image.

Indeed. The horror themes from classic Falkovnia are scarier in my view than a zombie apocalypse.

So, for 5th edition, I simply made Vlad Drakov a Zombie Lord. The twist is that the new partial Darklord is his daughter. She simply never knew who her father was, as she was conceived amid a campaign and her mother feared Drakov would corrupt their daughter.
Therefore both father and daughter are caught in an unknowing struggle. Is there hope for Drakov' daughter? Or will she end up as her father?
