Hakumen was one of the biggest inspirations for me undertaking the now 7 year long effort of learning archaic, classical Japanese. He doesn't use it excessively, but he'll occasionally slip into like when does his intro and uses "ware" and "waga" instead of his usual "watashi" snd "watashi no." His bearing that radiates strength and confidence, his role in the story as one of the most powerful beings in universe, his very deliberate and concise speech that leaves a level of mystery, and the heart breaking aspects of his story all helped instill in me a desire to pick up the study of a now dead language with very little immediate benefit, all in order to understand and appreciate what this character, his origins and what he represents, more fully.

They really did make a great character in Hakumen. Layer by layer, they reveal the reasons behind him and he goes from 'bizarre generic mini-boss' to a fascinating heroic character who, as you rightfully point out, is tragic.

I think another thing that adds to understanding the tradgedies of Hakumen is that hes the only character that regards Bang more highly than any other character. He knows whats going on in the background of what happaned in Bangs life as he caused all of it. Bang being the only positive person (besides tao) even after that, and holding himself to his own high standards seems to resonate with the person Hakumen is now.
Back in 2010 I saw hakumen in a videogame magazine, hoping it was not a boss from a rpg but a character from a fighting game and purchased my first blazblue right away.
Blazblue was originally conceived as an rpg so your fears were not unfounded

I'm not going to lie, I have a hard time picking my favorite between Kagura Mutsuki and Azrael. They both fit Character archetypes that I just adore and are just both so badass in different ways.
Two good choices, I gotta pick Kagura just based on I love fast sleek build characters more so YET. Kagura is an absolute unit lol 😂. Dude is so damn strong he out here fighting weapons based characters with his bare hands and Bare Chest 🤣. Cuz looking like a final boss no doubt. You literally can’t go wrong with Azrael as ya favorite ether 😌.
Azrael is such a Chad. He brings fists to gunfights and swordfights, limits his own power so he won’t kill everything around him, and is so fucking strong that a literal goddess and Hakumen are terrified of him. He’s got badass theme music and quotes too. DC Douglas’s voice for him in the English dub is perfect. Him beating Hakumen in a fight and saying “is that sword a decoration?” is the coldest shit ever.
Edit: I don’t know why I thought Rachel is a goddess. Either way she’s one of the most powerful characters.
@@SOBEKCrocodileGod The goddess is terrified of him? Don't spread lies. Also Hakumen flees because the fight is taking long time and Celica may be in danger, there are more important things than just fights.
@@klockenberg2299 Rachel. Dunno why I thought she was a goddess my memory must’ve been hazy. She’s an observer tho, making her an incredibly powerful character.
@@SOBEKCrocodileGod Yeah but she's not the goddess, I thought it refers to Izanami. But no Rachel isn't that powerful anymore since CP, she has been stripped of the power. Amane is the one holding her original power and in Arcade stuff he casually handles Azrael with Azrael being excited.

Hakumen and the entirety of Blazblue is a joy. Mori just HIT with Hakumen's design especially. One of the coldest looking MFs in existence.
Also, the STORY DON'T MISS. Probably the greatest fighting game story out there in my opinion.
Honestly, I seriously wish more anime/anime-inspired media took after Blazblue. There's so many different character designs and story archetypes that are deconstructed so they DON'T FEEL CLICHE that I wonder how BB doesn't have more attention?
The moment in Central Fiction Jin becomes proto Hakumen for 5 minutes when he jumps into the Susanoo unit after Ragna rips out Terumi was awesome. You also slowly see Jin go from the psychotic villain bent on killing Ragna to becoming a hero closer to Hakumen became, though they took different paths to get there.
But I was confused as to what happened to Hakumen (aka Jin from the other timeline). I guess he died?
He basically stops existing. The only thing holding him to reality is willpower.
Hakumen definitely one of the coolest fellas ever created.

No character captures my adoration and intrigue like Hazama/Yuuki Terumi.
But Hakumen is one of the best second place candidates from the roster of this amazing series.
Say what YOU want about his character; Hakumen has an AMAZING design and with an even GREATER theme song to boot!
Plus, as a bonus, He DOES has his moments.
He may be a jerk and I will reprimanded him because if it but I will ALWAYS ADORE his design!
Heck! I’ve even designed at least 5 of my own characters loosely based off of him.
And do use the word loosely specifically because I can NEVER recreate the man, the myth, the legend that is HAKUMEN, but also because to put my own spin on things and have those characters personality traits better fit with their respective stories, you know?
Been doing some dnd-esque roleplaying with blazblue characters between me and some friends
I had the privilege to play the H-man, and me realizing just how miraculously strong he is has been a blast
I got hooked by blazblue going to a friend's house and watching them play it, I never liked fighting games, but one character made me try to learn the foreign genre, and it was Hazama, that fedora wearing dapper snek boy got me hooked, but sadly he was way too hard for a fresh fighting game player to learn lol, but he got me to give the game a chance, now I know the entire blazblue lore and still can't play hazama to save my life!!
I can't play Hazama either with his dinky dagger ass attacks 🗡️

hakumen is cool blazblue's story is underrated I've been a fan since I was six in 2009 and I admit a lot of the lore confuses me but I just think if people just try to understand the bit of lore they need to know and then just focus on the story itself they'd have a better time.
hakumen is great because I think chronophantasma's change in structure didn't affect his character too badly. unlike litchi and arakune litchi especially who just. man. my god what they did to her character is so stupid at least arakune my favorite was funny and almost like a shonen protagonist in the final game litchi was just tragically used

@@scurreith3667 I guess but the execution was bad. i didn't like roy especially like in continuum shift he seemed okay in his alternate ending it was quite touching. maybe he was a dick once but clearly he regretted his actions and felt bad for litchi but then in cp and cf he's just a complete dick. it sucks
@@MogusMasterSaikawa22 Y’know, it’s funny, because if you look at it he’s very similar to Relius in many ways, a man overburdened with an undying obsession for knowledge and power, he serves as this perfect foil for almost all the main characters besides Noel, Ragna and Jin desperately pursued power, and that desperate pursuit in many timelines led to their tragic deaths, I mean, that lesson comes full circle almost everyone at the end of CF Arcade mode because the power they sought, the reality they made, the power they sought became their own undoing, and I find it poetically beautifully fitting that the character that has reflected this since the beginning is a literal sentient cluster of the power they sought. The very same thing, that turned him from a noble gentle nerd loyal to Kokonoe to a ravenous beast that sought to devour like an animal.
