I'm so sorry for your pain Hugo. The loss of those we love never fully goes away. Dan knows that pain, too, as do I. Dan's performance was special. Maybe listening to it again helps you re-live the special memories of your friend. Thanks for reacting to it.

Entendo bem vc, minha parceria com meu papa na musica foi desde meus 10 anos e td sabado estavamos ligados, meu pai tocando, eu cantando e hj q nao tenho mais isso, doi mto ainda, pq sao mtas musicas q me levam ate ele, q eh impossivel nao reviver e sentir falta, e qdo entro nesse meio do ano q eh o niver de falecimento dele, a coisa pega mais ainda, mas msm chorando, sofrendo, ainda prefiro ouvir e relembrar, pq sao tantas memorias lindas q nao recordar eh como faltar 1 pedaço de mim, pois ele com sua musica smp estara presente em mim. Meu pai era um musicista q tocava 5 instrumentos, deu aula de violao e guitarra, cantava e compunha tbm, por mais de 20 anos tocou em bandas pelo Brasil a fora. obg s2

@RoGuimaraes -- Thank you for sharing a piece of your history with your father, Ro. It's the same with my mom and my dad. Mom was the musician and singer (who taught all of us kids the same things), and Daddy sang beautifully. He and Mom danced together all the time (and they taught us that, also). Sometimes they would perform, at public events, and they were always in great demand. Mom had also performed in several different parts of the U.S., and was invited to go abroad several times, but she wouldn't, because of all four of us kids at home. Both of my parents are now gone, as well as a brother and most of my cousins and their parents. Still...our memories are always there in our hearts. HUGS!

Tears running down, myself right now...always, with this song...yet...it comforts me as well as brings memories.
In 2014, I had been caring for my mom for about six years, in my home, and then she had been in a care home for about two years. During the time she was in my home, everything that this song talks about took place (wiping away tears, and caring for her in nearly every way). Since I was already partly disabled, myself, (rheumatoid arthritis), that got harder and harder, which was why she finally agreed (in fact, she suggested) that she should go to a care center. My sister and I (and our families) spent a lot of time driving back and forth from our homes, to be there for her, until she finally passed on. By then, she had been seeing my dad, my younger-younger brother (the younger of my two younger brothers), and my older brother (that we other four kids never met, as he died at 10 days old) in her room, beckoning to her, every single day, for a couple of weeks. My older-younger brother was still (and is still) up in Alaska, but we got him on my oldest daughter's laptop so he could say goodbye to Mom, as well. It was hard, of course, and this song reminds me of that time SO much.
On the other hand, it also comforts me every time I hear it, because of how it ends, plus Dan's version of it has a tendency (I think) to carry our own emotions with it, even more than the original version, as he puts everything from his own heart into it.
About 15 months ago, now, my brother's wife also passed away. He literally had been doing all of the things mentioned in the song, for her, throughout the three years before she went on. He's handled things well, and my sister and I try to stay in touch with him as much as possible. I've wanted to send him a link to this video, but I just can't...not yet, at least. I know that when he hears it, he will appreciate it, and probably listen to it over and over again, but...not yet.
Gary is a professional photographer, by the way. If you'd like to see some of his photos (mostly of Alaska), let me know, and I'll send you links for two of his galleries. Also, I use a lot of his photos to make my own videos. It's really nice to have a brother who gives me unlimited permission to use any of his gorgeous photos, that can fit into dozens of categories! 😀
Dan posted this cover on July 18, 2018 -- slightly less than nine months after his father passed away. Was he connecting it with that event? I don't know...but very possibly.
Your reaction was wonderful, Hugo. I know it's hard for many of us to listen to the song, because the memories come flying in. As I mentioned above, though, it's also comforting (to me, at least), because it helps me remember that I'm not the only one who has ever been through that kind of pain, and that (as I mentioned to another reactor just a few days ago, after he reacted to "My Heart Will Go On"), hearts really never DO get disconnected, and that's a GOOD thing, generally speaking.

Dan has the power to bring out emotions and memories, some pleasant and some sad in all of us. He actually becomes the song and makes the listener feel the emotion. This is another one of my many favorites. I’m so sorry if the lyrics in this one were hard for you to hear.
