    Same cucumber problems in Olympia! Had to replant seeds in June straight into the garden because all the starts in grew indoors died when I jumped the gun and planted in May. The cool nights are what I attribute it to. But the new plants are way behind. All the hot weather plants are slow or very little growth. Some brassicas were super slow as well. Thankfully I had many volunteers coming up all over the place!

    I’m so glad to hear this turkey info I knew I liked you the first time I watched a video when they were loudly gobbling and you said so patiently ‘hi boys!’ and I just knew they were pets…
    I’ve watched hundreds of iTubes learning all I know about growing a food garden over the last few years since retirement and you have shared the most practical, clear to me info of them all and I am so grateful. Plus you made me laugh out loud when you said “ and it’s OK to just put seeds in the ground and have no idea what’s going on” the most validating, helpful, supportive, realistic and perfect comment I’ve ever heard about gardening :)

    Question 🙋🏼‍♀️. If I grew spring potatoes, then how long can I leave them in the ground? I live near you climate wise.

    • @littlerootsranch
      @littlerootsranch  Год назад +1

      You can leave them in the ground and harvest as needed or pull them and store them inside if you need the room. You need to get them before the rains come again so they don’t sprout.

    can you plant potatos in late june?

    • @littlerootsranch
      @littlerootsranch  6 месяцев назад

      Honestly, I am convinced you can plant potatoes at any time. June is still good, just plant them asap. Summer plantings are best for early potatoes or smaller potatoes and especially for new potatoes (young potatoes).

    So Excellent and timely, you have a way with words that is such a help to me! I just saw your sweet comment about Vashon - lots of farm stands here too and VIGA/Saturday Market. If you ever get this way I will show you around ! You’ve helped my yardening so much, thank you for all your hard work. And very fun seeing those turkeys up closer I may have missed this, but can I ask why you have turkeys? Or point me to another RUclips episode:) thanks again

    • @littlerootsranch
      @littlerootsranch  Год назад +1

      Oh yay, I love reading comments like this. Thank you and I am so happy to help. As for the turkeys, I never imagined they would become my favorite animal nor that they had so much personality. Male Ester loves to snuggle and give me love bites, but he is so gentle and never even scratches my bare skin- even though his beak is very strong. I originally got turkeys to breed them and sell them for thanksgiving. I ended up falling in love and now they are part of the family. Funny enough, they also do an excellent job of keeping the chickens safe from eagles so I also call them livestock guardian turkeys, lol. They are also the most mentioned thing in the comments of my RUclips videos and that makes me so happy. I love those darn turkeys.

    My cucumbers are very behind this year. Cabbage is taking forever to form heads and my spring planted beets are still quite small. But my beans are growing crazy fast this year!

    • @littlerootsranch
      @littlerootsranch  Год назад

      My beets either didn’t germ this year or the rabbits got them. I was pretty bad at watering them in the spring but beets are usually pretty easy for me. My cucumbers are having zero growth. I might try to start new seeds if I have any.

      By reading the comments, it seems like everyone is having problems with cucumbers this year. I buy specialty cucumber seeds and they are a dollar a pop so it is bummer that none of them are doing anything. In the summer I live off of snacking on cukes from the greenhouse.

      I buy from a few different ones. I get most of my seeds from Johnny’s Select Seeds. I get some seeds from Osborne Seed but they tend to sell in higher quantities- I can also drive there and pick up seed which I like. I usually fill in the gaps with seed from Territorial.

    Hi, by "seed starting" do you mean sowing seeds outside in the ground, or planting seed starts inside to move outside later? I have one group of cucumbers that got munched by snails, and another planting is doing great so having mixed results in Seattle
