1) you don't have to remove the bands
2) don't have to lift up the white plastic ring
3) when you put back the white plastic ring, the metal tabs actually is lifted on top
4) wrong battery was put in. Should be SR927W

(W) = High Power Battery commonly used for Chronograph / Multifunction / Dual Time / G-Shock Watches
(SW) = Flat Power Battery commonly used for Single Function Watches

You are using wrong battery ,you should use SR927w battery not sr927sw...there is a difference.

So i noticed you did not reset the watch by hitting - and AC as stated on the sticker on the batteries. Is that not necessary?
It depends on. It's not necessary for all time. It's better to do most of the time.
Hey I just did this and my watch continues to have "OPEN" message. It won't allow me to press any buttons.
Try to reset it. I think it's will be ok

Hi nice to hear that you are a seafarer. If your watch is stop then it's better to keep your battery open from watch then it won't be any problem. If your watch is stop and you keep battery inside your watch for long time then sometimes battery leaked out and make movement damage.
