  • [Japanese New Year]
The Japanese New Year (正月 Shōgatsu) is an annual festival with its own customs. Since 1873, the official Japanese New Year has been celebrated according to the Gregorian calendar, on January 1 of each year, New Year's Day (元日 Ganjitsu). However, many traditional events of the Japanese New Year are still celebrated on the first day of the year on the modern Tenpō calendar, the last official lunisolar calendar which was used until 1872 in Japan.

it seems like there's a little difference between Chinese calligraphy and Japanese Kanji calligraphy, especially in 行書. Really like how you wrote the characters in 行書, and not only your handwriting is beautiful, you also have a nice voice. Happy new year!

Actually both kanji styles are traditional kanji(or hanzi) styles. There are 5 main styles in kanji which are Tensho(篆書), Reisho(隷書), Kaisho(楷書), Gyosho(行書), and Sousho(草書). In the video, the left one is Kaisho and the right one is Gyosho. Kaisho is kanji style for formal and official documents and Gyosho is a little of bit simplified version of Kaisho for convenience.

@@BDRabbitHole thanks for the information, but I was actually comparing Chinese Gyosho with Japanese Gyosho, I have watched a few Chinese calligraphy video and to me Chinese Gyosho is a little more ‘wild' than Japanese Gyosho. But I suppose that also base on different individual's habit, and simplified Chinese have less strokes than Kanji maybe that's why Chinese Gyosho looks more informal.
