Well, in this video I show you how to add color to your outfit, lengthen the look of your shirt, give your wardrobe the layered look, and all for under $3.50. Yes, today we are making t-shirt extenders. Why pay $19 - $29 at a retailer when you can make your own in less than 20 minutes. Hope you enjoy this video tutorial. Happy Sewing :) and thanks for watching!

    I don't know how to sew but I am going to try to learn. I tend to give-up easily and convince myself that I can't do something before I've given myself a chance to learn a new skill. This time I am giving myself a chance to fail.

    You could add a light cotton skirt to the left over t shirt top and make a t-shirt dress for the summer

    Wow!! I just found your video which was prefect timing cause my daughter and I were just talking about making some shirt extenders to wear with sweaters this winter. I will be going to Joann's tomorrow for shirts and get started. I'm thinking Christmas presents for my gal pals. Best wishes for the Holiday season to you and your family.

    You could use the extra fabric to sew a cell phone or paper money pocket into your extender. Try to position the pocket where it will be least noticeable.

    Did you purchase your normal size for the t-shirts? I love this idea. I have 2 extenders I purchase "on sale" years ago for $10 each. So silly now that I consider it. I was in a hurry and just had to get something for a trip. I'm glad I found this video. Thanks!

    Great! Another way is to just take a tank top and pull the neck of it down to your waist and tuck in the arm holes in your pants. Mens A t shirts work well.

    I'm very new at sewing and I really appreciate your videos! My question is would this have been easier leaving the side open and doing the waste band first instead of sewing around in a circle? Then pinning the side to make the seam? I have yet to make this and was just curious. Thanks a million for all the tips and tricks! I feel inspired!

    • @AjsVintageDesigns
      @AjsVintageDesigns  10 лет назад

      Thanks :) As far as the waist band, you can do it either way.....however you will have to be careful if you sew the waist band first so that when you sew up the side seam you don't accidentally sew the channel shut so that you couldn't feed the elastic through. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching and I hope you had a FABULOUS weekend! HUGS :)

  • @LisaBevill-ProSinger1

    Can you just sewing over the top with the elastic already inside? instead of having to feed it inside?

    • @AjsVintageDesigns
      @AjsVintageDesigns  5 лет назад

      No, you will need to feed it through. If you sew over the elastic, you take the risk of your stitch breaking when you stretch the elastic when putting it on. If you did want to sew over it, you'd need to use a large zig zag stitch to allow for the stretch. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching ...HUGS :)

    Thanks for the tutorial, I made this but guess what! The back was short with 12 inches, front side was perfect but the back was jumping up for the bump, is there any solution for it?

    • @Philyra86
      @Philyra86 4 года назад

      Sounds like you have a bit more back bump like me. That's why i usually don't measure at the hips but over the backbump and take that measurement for the width of the skirt. Otherwise it will be to tight at the bump and eventually creep up at that spot.

  • @AshaSharma-yo4oe
    @AshaSharma-yo4oe 6 лет назад

    Very nice video. Thank you. Can we attach the material direct to shirt as I want to extend my top for yoga class, rather than wearing as a skirt? Then we don't need the elastic too.

    • @AjsVintageDesigns
      @AjsVintageDesigns  6 лет назад

      Yes, you can put the top of the extender directly under the hem line of your shirt (on the inside) and sew it on. You just have to make sure you extender is the same measurements in diameter as your shirt so it will lay smoothly :) Thanks for watching and Happy Holidays...HUGS :)

    • @AjsVintageDesigns
      @AjsVintageDesigns  9 лет назад +1

      +Veronica Herrera No, I don't have a tutorial on the lace one. I did add lace to the bottom of a slip (which would be pretty much the same concept) and I also did a ruffle at the bottom of a sweater to lengthen it. My sewing machine is in storage until Spring, because we are building a new home and I don't have a sewing space at our temporary home while our house is being built. I will do this tutorial in the Spring for sure. Thanks for watching and Happy Thanksgiving ! HUGS :)

    I ordered 2 shirts and when they came they were way to short to wear with my leggings. How would I add onto the bottom of the shirt?

    • @AjsVintageDesigns
      @AjsVintageDesigns  8 лет назад +3

      +Liz Turney You could do this same concept and instead of sewing a waist band, you can sew it to the bottom hem from underneath (inside of the shirt) and hide your stitching in the current hem stitch line (like doing the stick in the ditch concept). There are also some easier ways to do this but hard to write it out. I will be picking my sewing videos back up as soon as our new house is finished and I will do this video for you ! Thanks for watching and I hope you had a BEAUTIFUL day! HUGS :)

    You could just buy another $1 shirt at the dollar tree that fits. You wouldnt want to ruin anything beautiful by doing this. At this rate you value your life at a dollar (the price of a dollar tree shirt) for two hours. So you price your life at $0.50 an hour
