Repair Shop Destroys Xbox Series X HDMI - Let's Fix It! A viewer named John sent this Xbox Series X to a repair company for HDMI port repair but the company said they couldn't fix it because it had too many broken traces. So John sold the console to me for $400 so I could make this video trying to fix it.

Man. I know you would never throw another company under the bus, regardless of how terrible their repair skills are. But I wish we could know what company it was so we could all stay away from them.
As an owner of a private repair shop, I emplore anyone in need of repairs to ensure that diagnostics are free or very close to it. Anyone who's competent would rather have you as a repeat customer than steal away a bill from you.
Yep, exactly. I’m fine with a small diagnostic fee but the the entire price of a repair
Diagnostics are part of the quote process. Someone who wants to charge you to tell you how much they'll charge you isn't worth your time.
When i did computer repair, the shop i worked for had a standard $25 fee, just to cover some of the time we would need to check out the computer to see what was wrong. No fix, no charge as well. No one seemed to have any issue with this.
repair attempt/diagnostic fees are to cover YOUR time for taking a look at the item, disassembly/reassembly, doing research, etc. why sell yourself short by giving labor away for free? 99 is a bit high but it's not unreasonable to charge between 25 to 50. even that is probably too low given operating costs etc. but people are cheap these days.
@@lookitskazzy I don't completely disagree; it's important to be compensated for your time, but it's most important to deliver value.
😲They definitely damaged the port removing it. The design of the port on this console makes it pretty unlikely to damage pads even when you break it. The only time I have seen ripped pads on this console so far is from attempted removal with inadequate equipment, skill, or knowledge. Nice save!
Yep, exactly
that repair shop needs to be sued glad u fixed it
It really does suck seeing so called repair shops causing damage like this to property that doesn't belong to them. Great job Steve, another one saved
Yes, it’s super frustrating seeing this kind of stuff
Yeah and even worse is when they spill their drink all over it and then when they try to fix it it's just dead from liquid damage
self-proclaimed repair shops.
@@marblecornet Had a friend with a faulty 360 which was under warranty. We took it to the store he bought it from. They tried fixing it themselves and when they failed to do so they've send it to MS only for them to claim that they won't fix it because someone already opened it before. That one being the store he got the Xbox from.
@@txcforever that must've sucked
Customer: Can you repair my Xbox?
Reparishop; No we will destroy it and charge you 99 dollars
Customer:.....
Lol, exactly. So strange
Yo! I destroyed your motherboard and you owe me 100 bucks.
Yes, crazy
I really like this type of videos, especially that you are explaining everything you do!
So glad you enjoy these! They’re fun to make
Series X and One X I see this literally all the time.
Excellent video Steve! Edits are flawless, and I absolutely love the perfect amount of thermal paste sound. It's literally a staple of your channel.
Take care man 😊💯
If John has the finance to do so, he should sue that repair shop, not only did they break his system, but they made him pay for it, and it's not like Xbox Series Xs are cheap in any way.
Great video Tronics tho! Always a pleasure to see you repair devices, no matter what they are.
@@witebatman This is a small claims court issue. The value is pretty low and in small claims you can just represent yourself. Whether or not it is worth your time to do so is another question though. Also I would imagine the threshold would be "preponderance of evidence" instead of beyond a reasonable doubt. I think most (if not all) civil cases use the preponderance threshold whereas criminal cases use the beyond a reasonable doubt threshold.
They would still have some issues trying to prove that the repair show did it, would likely need to bring in some form of witness to testify to the fact that traces don't just rip themselves off of boards or something. I don't imagine most judges have a lot of electronics repair knowledge so they'd have to be educated in some way to see why it was likely the shop did the damage themselves.
Honestly, before going that route he could just threaten to post a link to this video on their FB Page and Google Reviews.
If they don't comply, then do it.
I think it would just be better if he named the repair shop, and shamed them here.
Definitely appreciating the more descriptive your latest few videos are. It’s nice to know what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and what to look out for. Keep up the great work.
Your repair ability is amazing and your patience out of this world :P
I am so impressed with that job, you're so good at this it is always a treat to watch you do it. Much love
The soldering of the wire always impresses me. When you see how tiny the pins and the cable actually are, it makes it even more impressive. Great work, and and a great result.
Is there ever a TronicsFix Live? I think that would be interesting to see an entire repair from start to finish Live.
You and northridge fix are my two favorite repair channels to watch. You both do an excellent job and care about the quality of your work.
Yet another great video to help me center myself during my lunch hour. Keep up the good work, big dawg.
Awesome work, Steve 👏👏👏
I have only destroyed one furnace in my 16 years of fixing and testing components. That's one of the few jobs I have never charged the customer for the work. I already had to deliver the news the furnace died during my testing so there was no point in trying to get a diagnostic fee. Others clearly don't feel the same way.
Furnace?
@@CiderPang27 They make heat when it gets cold outside.
I really admire the work you did there... keep going for those "waste of money" repair, i'm sure someone will enjoy that and the envoironment will be grateful
This is a great video. That repair shop should return the customer's money and probably pay for the damage they caused. On your side.. $400 bucks for a broken console seems steep. But loved watching this repair.
You are a legend bro. You make the impossible , possible !
Awesome fix... love it when a wire comes together.
Great video, as always! 😊
Nicely done Steve!
Great job Steve, I wonder if the repair shop has seen this video.
Those pads hurt my heart! Love the video as always! You mind sharing what microscope setup you have going? I've been itching to get myself one. Also super curious about the type of wire you use for these repairs? Thanks!
Great wipe transition when switching sides of the board!
My editor is great!
Steve, you are... absolutely inspiring!
Love your Chanel and really like when you fix Nintendo stuff like the switch and Gameboys
Noted. I’ve got more of those coming up
Love ya vid I love seeing new Uploads thank you :D
Thanks for watching my videos
Enjoyed this video. Glad you could save this device from the trash. Should be many years of happy gaming on this.
Love your videos bro
The most wires I've ever had to add to a HDMI port in place of traces was 6. Getting them to solder to the traces and getting a stable signal within HDMI spec was rough. Gotta hand it to you. I probably wouldn't have bothered. Especially since this is HDMI 2.0. The signal margin on those is ridiculous.
As soon as I saw how few pads were left, my heart sank for that poor console. For someone to mistreat it that badly is almost bordering on cruelty, lol. I can't wait to see you bring it back to life again. If I was the viewer I'd never go back to that shop again. I always look for honest reviews for any repair shop I'm contemplating going to or I ask my neighbors/friends where they go.
It was so nice seeing the end result. I wonder why there was no sound for the on/off though. Ehh, I guess it's just a minor issue that isn't terribly necessary.
You're so good ! Don't stop !
Fantastic repair 👍👏
When repair shops screw up you benefit!! And yes they should clean up the components and thermal paste! Keep up the great videos!
Thank you for your work
Hello,
You should cut the trace under your wire (strap0) between the connector pins and your soldering.
It may creates reflections on the TDMS pairs.
To avoid mismatch impedance you should place your strap closer to the HDMI connector.
What a satisfying fix
Keep it up steve
These types of challenging repairs are my favorates
Thanks for making incredible content
You make all this fixes seems easy!
What electronic microscope are you using with the screen at 1:59?
Nice fix, Steve
The new page flip in the edits kinda broke my brain for a few seconds lol
Great video!
The same i did with my mouse
Scroll wheel contact pads were broken i fixed it by making new pads that was so satisfying
Nice work!
Just a question what type of microscope with lcd attachment is called... interested in it for repairing stuff
@TronicsFix what is the digital microscope that you are using?
amazing job!
I have a question. What is it for when you get the Plcpcb parts? And love the videos!
What the microscope that you are using here ? it is a different one that you have in your amazon link
Quick question. What size wire do you use when making jumper connections?
It makes no sense charging for a service that was not done! Thanks for the amazing content!!!!
Great job
The smoothness of the print from JLCPCB is because it's a resin print, not FMD with PLA or ABS which is what most at-home printers are.
Awesome Xbox x fix tronicsfix Awesome Video tronicsfix
Hey I am one of your biggest fans, I watch all your videos, I wanted to ask you a question, I have a series x with overheating, the fan got noisy and turned off, when it turned on it gave me the overheating message, following your videos I put "the perfect amount of thermal paste" it no longer turns off but it is still noisy at times and does not expel as much heat, do you think it is the heatsink or will it be some internal component that gets too hot, thanks for all your videos 😀.
Nice repair. Amazon is now selling this Xbox, new, for $499.
That Xbox turning on had the same euphoria as your favorite super bowl team winning the championship.
Awesome 👌
They should close that ( repair shop) or maybe is a practice repair shop wow can’t believe places like those exist 🤦♂️
Thanks to your videos, I built up the courage to fix my buddies Xbox One S and PS4, both were in dire need of a cleaning and new thermal paste (the perfect amount of course), The PS4 however was exceptionally worse in the dirtiness factor as it had survived a house fire. The PS got a new fan and now both are working good as new!
You are the king. Niiiice
I think pad strips makes the work more neat and easy
Cool job
“This is gonna be a fun one… *SIGH* ”
That was great! 🤣👍🏾
Watching ur videos about fixing all the broken HDMI ports on consoles, it makes me wonder, do people actually plug and unplug their consoles all the time? my consoles gets probably unplugged 5 times throughout its life time, and ive always been careful about plugging in cables n not use hulk force to plug something in lol.
Hey TF... I have a One X that wont take a disc while on. You can insert the disc more than half way in (when off) and power it on and the disc will insert and play as well as eject. It just wont insert while the system is on. Can that be fixed???
Awesome!
the triple bypass heart micro surgery is successfull boys, steve just performed another miracle
Great video. Next time you have to use a big gloopy patch of green solder mask maybe have some fun with it and make a smiling Shrek face out of it.
very cool you are the best👍👍👍👍
Have you ever tried those pad strips to repair broken pads/traces? I see Northridge Fix use them a lot for cases like this
Nice video 😀👍
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed
It's good to see these repairs but don't have the console
Nice work! However the perfect amount of thermal paste saves the day again.
So is it better to use a heat gun for the solder rather than a solder gun.
good job
I have an 1980s Gameboy that's not displaying right. Do you still repair something like that?
If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t know where to begin when it came to soldering!!. I’m more of a software engineer kind of guy, but hardware is really fun!
15 ripped pads is insane. Modular ports would be nice to increase repairability tho, especially with parts sensitive to trace length like high bandwidth video interfaces
Oh god I thought you were folding the board with the transitions
This is why I will only ever use ShaneFix for repairs
Good idea!
Steve, how can you make these solders with free hands? Idk if I drink too much coffee, but in a microscope, my tools shake like wheat in a breeze haha
I've seen so many shady shops, it's not even funny. My oldest kid's asus tuf laptop they charged $900 just to hand it back and say they couldn't fix it.
Absolutely ridiculous.
The perfect amount of thermal paste!. Love it. Lol
Wow super clean xbox series x console...
How do you know where the traces should go?
This is actually an easy fix if you are actually trained and proficient with doing soldering work on circuit boards. Sounds like the repair shop hired someone with no clue or they are an all out fraud. Great job explaining how to fix this botched fix.
YESSSSS SSSIIIIIIRRRR!! MORE GAMING TECH FIXED!
I think I saw this one posted on Reddit
9:37 Hang on a sec... a brand new Xbox Series X is $500. So how is $400 plus the cost of labor & materials "a decent deal"?
That's. Crazy bro
We need a tools video!
What do you do with these systems that you are able to fix?
Good instructional video; kinda short. I appreciate the simplicity but this could've been a good 20 minute video
Que satisfactorio es ver cómo reparas las consolas :)
So just curious, I have an original Xbox with the error 12 on it. What is the process of sending those older machines in for you to take a look at?
You honestly would be better off buying a new one for what? 40 dollars or less.
I know that you always put the perfect amount of thermal paste, but sometimes you put more thermal paste than others. So it's hard to tell exactly how much to put on.
