You reaction streamers kill youtube stealing content and just putting your dumb little face over it and calling a reaction, what a shame. Thing about body language analysis:
    Body language analysis is not a way of telling if somebody is lying or not. Legitimate researchers, like psychologists, do indeed study some body language analysis, but anyone claiming that it is definitive proof of anything is not telling the truth.
    The way 'lie detection' in body analysis works is by finding a baseline, and then trying to find gestures that are out of range of that baseline, so things that look out of place. The thing is, this is only a way of increasing the likelihood of something being deceptive, and only by a little bit. There is no universal body language, and because of this, all body language analysis is circumstantial and requires some inference to come to any conclusion, hence is why it can not be used in court.
    Edit: Body language analysis techniques keep getting debunked, which is one of the reasons why it is often considered on the cusp of being a pseudoscience. The only way body language analysis is ever functional is when you are talking to someone and want to understand what they are feeling because it goes a long way being able to infer how someone is feeling based on what they *SAY* and do. You can't detect lies and truths. You can improve your natural body language analysis skills for better communication. That is it.

    • @verdantViridity
      @verdantViridity Год назад +6

      This is why I like @ObserveRUclips, he makes a point to mention common misconceptions and that all sorts of factors can affect the accuracy of a reading, such as if you don't know the individual's baseline. And that's pretty much what it comes down to, readings are more useful for estimating a person's emotional dynamics due to how quickly people flow from one thought to the next between breaths. The expectation to use nonverbal analysis as deception detection will render an analysis illiterate.

    • @flashphantomw1948
      @flashphantomw1948 Год назад +5

      @@verdantViridity I was gonna mention Observe too. He frequently talks about baseline and how there are many factors that can affect non-verbal behaviour. Non-verbal analysis is at best 80% accurate and should never be used as 'proof'. I also like that he doesnt shy away from letting us know his personal opinion but always tries to make sure he separates his professional analysis from his personal views.
      The narrator is saying the guy is suspicious because he gestures a lot 'unnecessarily', I have ADHD and gesture a lot when I speak, does that mean that I am always suspicious? No, it is just me stimming.

    • @backbane2972
      @backbane2972 Год назад +3

      I like the points about Observe, too, because he also talks about how body language analysis is not a way to find proof of guilt, it’s a method of finding leads during questioning. If a suspect shows an unusual cluster of micro expressions around a certain line of questioning, that does not automatically mean they are lying or indicate guilt, all it should mean is that this is a topic that should be pursued by the interrogator. This does not mean that it can’t be misused by people who don’t have this understanding or don’t have the appropriate training.

    • @HaleThePanda
      @HaleThePanda Год назад

      This is very well said! Body Language isn't a means of definitively detecting truths or lies, especially not on its own. Everything about a situation has to be taken into account to be able to give a clear and concise picture. Body language and microexpressions are more supposed to be indicators of thoughts and feelings such as nervousness and used to gage what it is the next plan of action and/or next question is going to be.

      if it makes you guys feel better, body language analysis begins with a baseline; aka what you do naturally, in everyday conversation/activities, then the analyst can watch you with the reference of what you normally do and any oddities/irregularities are noted. HOWEVER, body language analysis isn’t black and white, it can’t prove whether someone is lying or not, it only helps to kind of narrow down a suspect. plus, it’s not able to detect lies/truth properly to the point where body language analysis, like lie detector tests, aren’t admissible as evidence in court, it only helps judge how suspicious someone may or may not be acting, but with the added base of one’s baseline. a good channel to watch to better understand what body language analysts do is Observe, he’s really informative!

    this narrator bringing up “micro expressions” like they prove something is so annoying. i both know people who do those things on a regular basis and i also do a lot of these things! my mother tends to excessively nod when talking- that doesn’t mean she’s hiding something, it’s a habit she got from being a hairdresser so her clients know she’s listening when she’s too focused to respond. i tend to over explain and go off topic- not because i’m trying to justify my actions and trying to seem innocent, it’s because i have ADHD. the writer/narrator is just extremely closed minded to other people’s habits and eccentricities. they personally don’t have those habits and so they assume nobody does it.

    • @abbycantrell1369
      @abbycantrell1369 2 года назад +33

      Exactly! I grew up in a family where talking with your hands and nodding a lot while listening is normal. I can't *not* talk with my hands and I also struggle to make eye contact with people because I was taught that maintaining direct eye contact is actually disrespectful, you move your eyes around to see their hands and other expressions to better grasp what they're trying to say to you. The idea of micro-expressions being incriminating is just silly.

Professors, and grad students are DESPERATE to get their names onto ANYTHING noteworthy. Not wanting their names attached or at the very LEAST the institution’s name? Almost unheard of. Bc, getting ur studies published is VERY difficult. Having a NEW study that has significant evidence and the results are repeatable, is a hard thing to acheive. BODY LANGUAGE DOES NOT LOOK THE SAME FOR EVERYONE, EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT BASELINE BODY LANGUAGE, AND DIFFERENT SITUATIONS CAN CAUSE DIFFERENT BODY LANGUAGE. honestly, it seems like most of these channels use "body language analysis" to prove that they are qualified and know what they're doing, when really they're just looking back at past interviews with the knowledge of who's guilty and pointing out things that they wouldn't point out if they knew the person was innocent.

I've almost never seen videos analyzing court cases or interview tapes also include video from body cameras as police are actively investigating, and it helps with showing different inconsistencies as you go further into the case with the suspect and witnesses. it's jus the second this man opened his mouth and started talking about body language I remembered how ridiculous this narrator actually is.

    • @DaniParre

      They’re not claiming to be detectives, but they are just saying stuff while doing the bare minimum amount of sourcing. Sneeg talks about how in the description of the video he’s reacting to, it says they “have a team of specialists” and just lists a bunch of names while providing no proof whatsoever.
      In summary, they’re saying dangerous misinformation with no proof other than “Trust us. We’re specialists.” which most people who don’t know anything about the subject would just believe.

    Sneeg’s frustration at the narrator is so cathartic. These are genuinely my favorite videos of Sneeg’s. All this body language pseudoscience shit pisses me off so much as an autistic person with unusual body language. “Odd” body language is not an accurate tell on guilt yet I see so many people point out body language in these kinds of videos. It’s dangerous, and it really scares me honestly. I really appreciate when Sneeg calls it out as passionately as he does

    I watch a RUclipsr who does body language analysis stuff for a living and he says in every single video that body language can't be used to tell if someone is being deceptive, just raises the likelihood of someone possibly lying. He also says that someone who is telling the truth but thinks people don't believe them and people being deceptive act similarly. So people saying that body language is used to definitely tell if someone is lying is bs. Thank you Sneeg for using these videos to educate people on how body language cannot be used on its own to tell if someone is lying

    I want to see what this narrators normal day is interacting with people like if he ordered at Starbucks and the cashier is nodding their head yes does he automatically think they are hiding something? Or like if he talks to someone in the grocery store and they use hand gestures to tell their story does he think that they killed someone like this man has never had actual human interaction if he thinks these things are all actual correlations to being guilty to doing/hiding something.

    I can’t even believe how sick this guy is. He describes in horrific detail how he killed Sarah as if she was nothing to him because that’s the truth. Some people will act like they care about you when in reality, they would turn on you in an heart beat of given the opportunity. You really don’t know anyone, I don’t care how close you think you are. You will never know someone’s thoughts towards you. I hate that Sarah had to leave this life that way. She had so much life left and it was stolen for nothing but pieces of printed paper that will never be worth a life. People like Liam are terrifying because if they can do that to someone they knew that long, how many times would he have done the same to get what he wanted from others if he wasn’t caught.

    So glad you called out the ableism in this pseudoscience. I’m neurodivergent, have an intense stutter, have a hard time formulating verbal sentences, and have a constant full-body tremor. People always think that I’m nervous and I’ve been stopped by security guards at things like baseball stadiums because they assumed I was smuggling in drugs or weapons (they only let it go when my mom yelled at them for pointing out my disability to everyone, which I’m grateful for bc I was about to have a panic attack thanks to them). The thing is: I have never broken a single law in my life, nor have I attempted to break any. I struggle even breaking little rules in school or going outside of the guidelines in assignments. “No, I’m not a criminal, officer, I’m just disabled.” Body language analysis is absolute bullshit. The amount of times I’ve had to reveal private medical information to complete strangers because I “looked” or “acted” nervous is insane. I dread being in one of these environments as long as this pseudoscientific bullshit is still around.

    the obvious flaws with the og video aside, its so fucking weird to watch true crime stuff from close to home. as for the bodycam footage at the beginning and the clear communication from the cops, i think i heard about police reform happening in asbury and around monmouth county a while ago, so stuff like that is, if not required, then very much encouraged. not entirely sure of the timeline cause i was pretty young when all that happened, but i know places like asbury park and newark have always been real outspoken about police reform.

    I appreciate you bringing so much much light to the absolute pseudoscientific nature of body language and polygraphs. As to Snapchat messages, I think the snap chat temporary images legitimately delete or at the very least are not recoverable. I’ve never seen a non-saved snap used in a trial. They are stored and transported differently than photos on your cloud or on your phone. And depending on the phone model and age, certain deleted texts can become unable to be recovered. It seems to have to do with images and messages using wifi versus phone data to send.
