    I think precious metals is a great tool for education. Having some temporary or long term really helps the learning curve. they represent honesty, time, and hard work.
    Once you know, you know. After that, you will live your life different whether you have it or not. It will help you see things more clearly in this world and help you see through the smoke and mirrors.

I can't take them with me and I don't have any kids. I came to the conclusion I do it for my own satisfaction, wealth preservation and security. I can leave some to my nephews and sell off the rest in time throughout my retirement years. I will say this kind of thinking has caused me to hault purchasing new items at this time. I don't know how much more I will buy in the future, I guess time will tell.

    11:50 One worry about the future of numismatics- I really don't see Generation Z or Generation Alpha getting interested in coins like some of the older folks here unfortunately. Out of the existing parent collectors, only a portion of their children will decide to take up the hobby, and even then I think that would be the largest contributor to new interest compared to outside joiners. Besides, as more collectibles are made (Pokemon, high-end watches, sports memorabilia), this will only further fragmentize the collectible market and limit the capital spent on a pennies from the 1800s. For theses reasons, I stack gold/silver strictly for weight...

    • @MrDavidknigge
      @MrDavidknigge Год назад +1

      My local coin store guy recently said the exact same thing, however since the business has skewed more towards bullion, there are new numismatic opportunities. For instance sovereign bullion, old Mexican silver, and some commemoratives.

  • @jrpcoins
    @jrpcoins Год назад +5

    If you think about it, your one oz of gold was 800 dollars in 2008 when the economy "crashed" yet we were no where near in debt as today. So why would you trade anything at a later date for more pieces of paper that are far less valuable then when you first purchased the item you are selling thinking your making a "profit" ?

    • @brucehansen7949
      @brucehansen7949 Год назад +2

      It was a profit compared to leaving it in the bank, and since 2008 the USD has not deflated 250% to equal $800 gold to $2000 gold today. Some people just don't understand gold and silver, it's not to get rich, it's to prevent from being in poverty. And only cash out when you have a reason to buy something that is also tangible and physical, like real estate

    • @jrpcoins
      @jrpcoins Год назад

      @@brucehansen7949 I think it really only makes sense to buy gold and silver and only sell once we're not as badly in debt or the dollar grows in strength and value, essentially back to it's previous value but that's highly unlikely.

    Wow! Very philosophical at the end there, I wasn’t expecting it. As a coin collector myself I can say that coins and metals only satisfy you for a time, but the true satisfaction comes from Jesus! The void that needs filling is only filled by Him and the next life that we all so desire can ONLY be had through Him. Repent of your sins and believe in Jesus before it’s too late! Nobody knows the day or the hour that they’ll meet Him

    Collecting coins since 1974. I love it for so many reasons but mainly for design and history. What saddens me is when im in coinstores and i see families bringing in dads collection to sell it off. No desire to keep at least a few of them. All you can see in the eyes is dollar signs. No appreciation for the years dad has spent collwcting. As for me, i will sell it all off except 3 sets of Canadian centenial 1967 that include the 20 dollar gold piece (just over half 0z of gold) to my 3 granddaughters.

Another way is to weigh it to see if it's actually 1 troy oz or slightly over, then it's usually real. Duplicates don't typically way correctly.
