    Dahlias are my thing! I've found for best vase life, harvest in the cool morning or evening. Then add the stems to a few inches of boiled water. Cover the container with a smaller lid or towel, just something to protect the blooms from excess steam. I let the water cool to room temp, then arrange. Ball form dahlias generally last the longest. Other forms can last a moderate amount, but the smaller diameters have a better vase life. Dinner plate dahlias don't last more than a day for me. I don't use them in market bouquets. But I do have a big display of them for my booth!! People cannot believe the size and it really catches their eye, making them stop at my booth. I don't have a cooler yet, but live where the nights cool off, so I leave them outside to hold over till my event.

    Great information! I don't sell my flowers, but I gift them, so I asked my friends to save jars for me such as jelly, pickles, and sauce jars (large and small). I find the jars are so easy to arrange with the lip. They stand up the way they are supposed to and it's a nice size to share with friends and family. They are also easy to handle. I delivered an arrangement in a rounded vase, and I could see the person I handed it too was having a hard time hanging on to it. If I ever use an unusual sized vase again, I will be sure to put it in a small box and stuff it with tissue paper, similar to what florists do.

    Thank you for all of the helpful information. I am curious about your pricing on the medium-sized pumpkins. How do you approach that?

      I just kind of go with what I see at pumpkin stands so I’m compatible

    I’d like to get your thoughts on how people shop at a farmers market. For instance do they wait until they’re about to leave to buy flowers? Especially the ones with jars? Just wondering if they’re willing to walk around holding flowers while they shop.

      Some walk with them, some wait til they leave. Today my flowers sold fast so people didn’t want to miss out on them

    Hi Christina, I love to watch your channel. Thank you for sharing. I would love to do a farmer market some day. There is a lot to learn :) I often found insects or bud worms/caterpillars when I bring cut flowers inside. How do you treat insects issue. Thank you in advance.

      I’ve used neem oil and Eight, which are both organic. It’s also easy to shake flowers over a bucket of soapy water - that drowns the bugs and is so spray!

    I can’t remember if this was in a previous video, but do you use anything (chicken wire, rubber band, etc) to hold your flowers in your jelly jar arrangements? Or do they just stay in place? Love your videos! I’m always telling my husband “the flower farmer in Iowa said…” ha! Great info!

    Hi. Very informative video. Thanks for that🌻. My question is: my procut sunflowers have really stiff necks that are bent sharply at 90 degrees! Is that normal? How does one display or arrange them? I don’t have many at a time so they are pretty ungainly. Thanks again

    • @SunshineFlora
      @SunshineFlora  3 месяца назад +1

      Sometimes that can be tricky. They may be better when they open. Try buying the procut Horizon. They face more upward

    I am growing mini pumpkins for the first time and have no idea when they are ready to harvest. They are all white and already look like they are ready. (proper shape and size, etc.) Should I do the fingernail test on the skin or watch for the tendril to dry up? Will it hurt them to leave them on the vines for a bit longer or should I harvest them?

    • @SunshineFlora
      @SunshineFlora  3 месяца назад +1

      Do the fingernail test. Also make sure that the stem is very dark green and woody.
