  • In this vlog, Liam takes a solo walk along the Thames Estuary to find one of the Hoo Peninsula's lesser known historical ruins - Lower Hope Battery which defended the river during the late Victorian era and became eroded when the seawall was moved inland several decades ago.
Shot on the DJI Action 2 and Nikon Z50 with 50-250mm, 16-50mm and 10-20mm lenses.

A great example of an area's history is not fully covered until you've been everywhere. I'm sure military history buffs and those of us who like to see nature reclaiming the countryside will thank you for your exploration efforts. 👍👍

Really enjoying your videos! During WW2 my granddad lit bonfires on Cliffe. Marshes to draw the Luftwaffe away from London. Lovely to see your footage.

I love the Thames Estuary too! Years of visiting the muddy shores and Marshes/Rivers of Essex - Woodham Ferrers, St. Lawrence, Bradwell, Tilbury Fort, World's End, Shoeburyness, One Tree Island, Wat Tyler Park /Marina, Rainham Marshes, Purfleet, plus trips on the Medway. Love seeing the area in the video and all around, many years ago found out about a small hamlet near Cooling that has family connection we didn't previously know of - Spendiff. Thanks for the video, great skies!👍

There are plans of this lower Hope battery available on the internet. What you were looking at was the base of the gun emplacement. On top of it were once the ammunition rooms and other gun-related buildings. The plan I saw looked like they were constructed from steel. These were all removed, probably for scrap, leaving only the strange looking bases.

Very nice find, never knew that existed until this video..thank you so much for enlightening us 🙂 I think my best explore there was to find the spare parts for the Mansull Forts just to the south of Cliffe Fort a few years ago, also got to go around the explosives works remains too.

First time I've watched your videos. I like doing the same thing where I live in coastal South Carolina USA. I think your work would be even more impressive if you used a drone for overhead video. Keep up the good work!
