Scleromystax in nature - rare longnose Corydoras in the wild - similar Scleromystax barbatus

- Rare Scleromystax sp. CW038 is a large Corydoras like catfish closely related to Scleromystax barbatus ( Corydoras barbatus in old books ). These slender bodied Callichthyidae ( armored catfish ) occur in the rivers of coastal Brazil near the Atlantic Ocean. This habitat has few other fish, including Hyphessobrycon itaparicensis (Thank you Flavio Lima for the ID!) , Geophagus itapicuruensis , and Hoplias malabaricus .

I am a big Corydoras lover, esp. of the smaller species, but since I´ve seen them the first time in real life in my local Zoo I am always thinking about how to fit those any of these behemoths into one of my tanks ;-)
This video may be a important piece of history - documenting an highly endangered species in there natural habitat... There is a programme to breed Scleromystax species in Zoos here in Europe - as I understand it, it is one of the first programmes to breed endangered small catfish "with a plan", like they do with lions and such.
I really like Scleromystax, and learned a lot from this video! I got wild caught S. barbatus, and bred them now. Just another amazing Fish.

how has theses in the uk for sale ????????
Amazing i have 11 of them still smaller ones with my angelfish on 25 degrees. Will this work out or is that way to hot for them?
I think it is ok, but generally I would keep them cooler at least part of the year.

I sure would like to see some juvenile colored black arowana in the wild...
you would have to spend a lot of time in the rainy season swimming around flooded forest, but i think when they have the nice pattern they are still in mom's mouth. The ones you see for sale like that are poached (they are illegal to catch).
