Good morning Jeff! Fantastic video! You crack me up 😆 not only are you diverse enough to complete this rebuild, and a man of many talents, you’re funny.I enjoy watching you and all your projects. Looking forward to the electrician sense of humor 😆👍 See you next Sunday ☀️ Stay safe 🙏
Hey Dimity, super happy I was able to make you smile not easy to make insulation interesting!! Electrical is going to be a real challenge, 1st off video making wise and well I am just not a SPARKY in general!! But we are going to learn and laugh together :)
This video cracked both Tracy and I up, so good. I can't point to anything particular but the delivery was great. So true about having the right tools for the job. Home Depot is a complete nightmare! Good God. Wonderfully done, see you next week.
Perfect!!! I got you both laughing, hope you are having a great long weekend.. Thank you for the kind words and yes the right tool make a huge difference in quality and time spent.
dude. Dude. DUDE. Your process for making videos? *finger tip kiss* Fantastimo. I see a lot of crossover into the Skoolie community (what I'm doing) - keep it up. Can't wait to run into you out on the road, some time. Cheers.
Excellent video! Now I know how important a good pair of scissors is for a job like this. Tangentially, it took me a while to figure out who your voice/accent reminded me of, but I finally got it. Johnny Harris, the guy who plays Constable Crabtree on Murdoch Mysteries. I will probably think of you as Constable Dares from now on. Hope that's okay with you! 🤣😂😆
Another great and informative video Jeff! I like how you did multiple layers of sound deadening and insulation (Lizard Skin | Killmat | Thinsulate) Did you insulate the headliner area with Thinsulate as well? How did you insulate the ribs/rails of the van?
I have seen a few of your videos. They are very good and informative and with a bit of humor. i actually came back to this video to see what was used to cut the Thinsulate as regular HD shears didnt fare so well either. I liked and subscribed. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. I'm wondering why you didn't use thinsulate on the metal (above the lizard skin) and floor? Does compression affect it's usefulness?
When you use wool as it is supposed to it won't absorb water. You need a anti damp foil. With this thinsulate it won't absorb itself. The walls will however and condens in between the both. So again a foil is required too.
Nice job and thanks for sharing. I think i will use LePage adhesive too. Much cheaper then 3M 90 like most people use. And I have read that I don't need sound deadening with thinsulate...what do you think?
How much thinsulte did you use? We just got a mid-roof, long wheelbase Ford Transit, and I'm trying to determine how much is enough. I figure maybe start with the 40ft x 60in roll to start and hope that's enough? Thanks for all of the videos! Will be using your advice for much of the build!
just subscribed thank you, do you have the van build in order #1 #2 #3 ect. i'm trying to follow in order from the get go thank you. your video is worth watching thank you good job
Another great video, thank you! Any idea where I can buy thinsulate? Amazon seems to be out of stock. I have the added challenge of being in Canada where it seems more difficult to source. I am having no luck finding it anywhere. Very much appreciate any suggestions.
Yes I am in Canada as well, I do hear there are a lot of challenges with acquiring parts right now. Maybe try ebay, that was a good source for the product. Thanks for watching
It is on the wish list, but not in the budget unfortunately.... I promise to be more cautious of the vibrations in hopes we can have you return and watch more of the complete videos.
PU foam does NOT absorb water - there's two types and you need to get the closed cell type; you've confused open cell. PU foam you have to also apply properly, it expands, if it has nowhere to go it will push outward. If you do it right it stops rattling and it's perfect. Case in point, PU foam is used for boats - sometimes as part of the hull (double hulling, fiberglass - pu foam - more fiberglass, this works against osmosis which has everything to do with water saturation, if it absorbed water, this would be bad. The only legitimate reason not to use PU foam on a van built is the option to undo the campervan conversion, PU foam you will not be able to remove so if you ever intend to sell the van as a non-campervan.
All facts. As you said, it all comes down to open cell foam vs. closed cell foam. And if you don't over do it, you won't get ripples in the body panels.
No way am I drilling two big holes where you cut them. That will decrease the horizontal strength of that beam by over half. Which beam was that? You jerked the camera around so much I can’t tell no matter how many tines I replay. When the camera is mounted on the selfie stick it jerks it around the background too fast.
thinsulate is by its name not for a van build it was made to wear,,it keeps the wind from blowing thru ur clothing,,riduculous to use on a meta; container
Same exact concept, and this is made for automotive. So yes, for a van. The whole purpose is insulation to prevent extreme temperatures from affecting the cabin of the van. It’s perfectly fine and encouraged to use on a van or even a car to enhance interior sound quality, block out road noise and insulate the cabin to keep it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
I’d have to be a speed reader extraordinaire to read those responses about what you should do first wire or insulate. I’m pretty sure I learned in filmmaking 101 how long to leave up words and it was so many seconds per word. You gave us about a 10th of a second per paragraph. I wanted to read the comments but obviously you didn’t want us to read them because you were going to do it your way regardless. What happened to you do you? I’m trying to do me.
Your van looks very cozy
My late husband Archibald and I could have had some nice fun in there !

Thanks for explaining and demonstrating why you used what you did. Your content is incredible. Thank you.
So much to think about when building a new mobile home ! Who knew ?! Nice job Jeff !
So very true. More than I expected as well. Haha. Thanks for watching.
Nice video Jeff! I watched the whole thing - very informative
Awesome, thanks for watching glad you enjoyed

love that quick intro
awesome, thank you for watching!!
Good and informative I wouldn’t have thought about the insulating tape excellent DIY vid
Foil tape doesn't insulate. Great stuff tho
Love your series!
Top notch build.
Wish the rv manufacturers had one tenth the commitment to quality.
Thanks
dude. Dude. DUDE.

Perfect, thank you very very much for watching and commenting!!
I love your Canuck humour! Thanks for going through your decision-makibg reasons for choosing Thinsulate. Looking forward to seeing the next week!
Great choice

nice video man I'm also going with thinsulate. Starting work on my van next week :)
I really love your videos and am starting to get addicted to them. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Very helpful, thanks so much! I think Ill go with the Thinsulate also-then vapor barrier, then the walls. I just bought a 2003 AWD high top Astro Van.
Great video! I your editing it on point! I also went with 3m thinsulate! Hope you're enjoying it!
Awesome, super happy you enjoyed. Thank you for the kind words and watching my video!
We just subscribed. We cannot wait to see the finished product!
@GoldHunt awesome thank you for joining the journey!! I cannot wait for the next hunt!!:) Well and the completed project...
Thanks for the video. I'm wondering why you didn't use thinsulate on the metal (above the lizard skin) and floor? Does compression affect it's usefulness?

How many feet of thinsulate did you use? Also I am loving this build series!
Nice job and thanks for sharing. I think i will use LePage adhesive too. Much cheaper then 3M 90 like most people use. And I have read that I don't need sound deadening with thinsulate...what do you think?
what are all those little silver panels everywhere?
Thanks for sharing. We enjoy watching your videos. Just wondering what tape you used for covering the wheel base on top of the thinsulator?
Would it be wise to put a double layer of the thinsulate in some of the deeper bays where there's room?
Of course it would
Thermo tape? Any links? Thanks.😊
i have a 170 sprinter van how much would i need? 20x60 roll?
How much thinsulte did you use? We just got a mid-roof, long wheelbase Ford Transit, and I'm trying to determine how much is enough. I figure maybe start with the 40ft x 60in roll to start and hope that's enough? Thanks for all of the videos! Will be using your advice for much of the build!
Just do the math
How satisfied are you with the insulating power of Thinsulate, now you have been through a couple of winters with it?
Where did you get the thinsulate? Local in Calgary??
how much thinsulate did you buy??
It's only open cell spray foam that absorbs water, closed cell spray foam is what's needed as it hardens all the way through.
Hey thanks for watching. Yes, that is correct.
Bro, what about stuffing the frame?
just subscribed thank you, do you have the van build in order #1 #2 #3 ect. i'm trying to follow in order from the get go thank you. your video is worth watching thank you good job
Jeff, it looks like you didn’t fall for all the hype put out by Havelock wool and their “brand ambassadors”. Bravo. Glad somebody can’t be bought.
Another great video, thank you! Any idea where I can buy thinsulate? Amazon seems to be out of stock. I have the added challenge of being in Canada where it seems more difficult to source. I am having no luck finding it anywhere. Very much appreciate any suggestions.

What was the shiny material you had in the walls before the insulation??
That is Kilmat sound deadening. Thank you for watching!
How much thinsulate did you end up using...it's expensive 🤔😳
I used just over 1/2 of the roll. It is one of the more expensive insulation types for sure.. Hopefully it pays off once on the road!
@@DaresDrives hopefully! Cuz I think I'm going with your advice. 👍🏻
@@CindyCaVANas I am very confident it will do great!
SpongeBob SquarePants was in the video
HAHAHA YES!!!
Why not just use something like foamular?
Jeff, how much of the insulation did you get?
I bought one roll, Which was 50 linear feet. Ended up with quite a bit left over.
Dear GOD get a stabilizer! I love you content and delivery but the loose camera work prevents me from staying more than a minute or two.
It is on the wish list, but not in the budget unfortunately.... I promise to be more cautious of the vibrations in hopes we can have you return and watch more of the complete videos.
@@DaresDrives Thanks for your consideration. Maybe 30 years on the computer is my issue ;)
How many layers of thinsulate did you use in the deep areas, just one?
I’m curious to know what your ratio of minutes of footage shot is to final video length?

If the coin fell on his side you could’ve done insulated wires

What size van is this?
If I do me won’t I go blind?
thinsulate is by its name not for a van build it was made to wear,,it keeps the wind from blowing thru ur clothing,,riduculous to use on a meta; container

If ceramic is a thermal insulator why are crockpots ceramic?
I though thin-so-late was a failed diet plan
