This was thought to be the end of the 50s on the network who would have thought that 26 years later they would be back on the mainline in use as Freight Locos amazing well done GBRF 😮🙂
Awsome loco i remember them working up to places like leeds or york then running light engine to Doncaster works for overhaul and running back west on service trains bashed a few like that good memories
Following up an Mr Molyneux's comments, It was indeed something very special to be on this railtour, looking back on it nearly quarter of century later, it still has many memories, the last 50-hauled service on BR, but far more importantly the last five minutes of the recording showing the arrival at London Paddington are personally very special to me personally, as this was the last time I was in London with may mum and dad, ten months later, my father passed away and things were in a way so different.
I was on that, still got my "5o Terminator" mug and Terminator ale bottle. Watching that again 14 years later is still real lump in the throat stuff. Il never forget!
Got me twice on that video (Red shirt Vauxhall and Dawlish) great day even if it was the last BR tour...glad it's not all over thanks to the 50 alliance we can keep 50031,44 and 49 going for a few year yet.
Would have loved to have been on that train a pair of hoovers kicking arse I love the rolling stock all marching colours and the green hoover sir Edward elgar I loved these locos and I ain't seen any for a long time due to this sad virus and lockdown great video I love watching history of old locomotives as it reminds me of better days when our railways were far better than the rubbish DMU'S that dominate our rail networks of the uk!!!💩
Not only is it good to know that both of these locos are still with us, but also there are 18 preserved examples which is the most number of a single class in preservation. Plus with 50021 operational now, that only leaves iirc 50002, 29 and 30 under restoration. A great achievement
It must have been a privilege to have been on that trip. I'll never forgive my Sister for choosing that date for her wedding! My last 50 railtour was to Glasgow a few weeks earlier and that was a top tour too. My 2nd favourite diesels behind the 40's.
John Garland You are the one without a brain if you disagree. It is completely logical and appropriate to scrap outdated traction units and use the resources to build more up to date machines and items.
Skoda130 You have a small point, but railways exist to make money. These engines cost a lot to maintain and preserve. Too often you will see railfans clamour that everything should be preserved. Are they willing to spend £100,000s of their own cash? Nope. The cry is always "They" should preserve this. Exactly who "They" are is not defined.
Fantastic video Zac. I thoroughly enjoyed watching that, they end was quite moving! It is certainly a good send off to a great locomotive. I'm sure the late night Paddington passengers were Happy :)
if you like class 50 action then in the next month i will be uploading plenty of video's of her, and also in the cab aswell , i owe a huge thanks to the class 40 appeal because with out them were would 50007 be now?
The class 50 is one of my favorite locomotives, especially 50007, And the class 50 is certainly going to be at the GCR at the weekend because i spoke to a driver who's taking it down, great video 5*
I love the way they sounded the horns at the very end - a bit like 'The Last Post'. I have a few reels of super 8 sound film of unrebuilt class 50s (and class 40s) 1979-83. Must convert it to video someday. Does anyone have access to a flying spot telecine machine?
I used to 'spot in the 80s, and haven't read any comments on this clip. Am I remebering right, 50 007 - Sir Edward Elgar (in the famous green livery)???
how old were you when they finished?5 maybe? having vacs now just isnt the same as it was back then. 7&50 will never be back on the main line, they just cost to much to keep them all running,ie it can cost 30 grand to sort out a flashover!

I find it very sad watching this, a truly great locomotive class and will be fondly remembered.
Got to agree.

Thanks for posting, Lovely to see & here. I will always remember them storming through Hook on the Waterloo - Exeter Service..

I'm from the USA but those British diesel locomotives were/are great!

the whole horn thing near the end is awesome
I've been on this tour, I remember the horn lament sounded by the 2 engines, I wasn't expecting that.

at least 50007 is back on the mainline. nice video.

+Alan Molyneux Very polluting and outdated traction. Good to see them cut for scrap and melted down.

Such a nice looking loco!
What a trip that must have been! The horns sounding at Paddington made my hair stand on end. For me, the 50s are up there with Deltics.
Great Video especially the end, thanks for sharing!
Excellent footage - cheers!
the horns in that last clip are incredible. Also nice Dawlish clip and that Clapham Junction? Shot at beginning
That is a fantastic video! Really, really evocative! :)

At Midland Railway Centre, if you are lucky she is going to be at Great Central railwy diesel gala on the 11-13 of september
Good clips!! Seems like a very long time ago now!
We dropped 50007 off at the GCR yesterday afternoon.
50007 is still running on a lease in gbrf colours
English electric at its best, saw loads in dawlish when i was a kid !
exellent vid, but please dont tell me these 2 got scrapped, any info on them would be appreciated, thanks
Both have been preserved and are both, happily, certified for main line use! 50007 was renamed in 2014 to its original name of Hercules.
I used to 'spot in the 80s, and haven't read any comments on this clip. Am I remebering right, 50 007 - Sir Edward Elgar (in the famous green livery)???
Getting their monies worth with the tones
are they scraped now?
Trains just arn't made like that anymore!
wat year was 50 farewell tour?
1994

How's that humble pie working out for ya? LOL.
Oh how the turntables…..
50007 on the midland railway and 50050 at yeovil so they are alive but not main line!
good, glad to see them go,would have been better on the midland main line rather than replacing the superior Westerns!
Can't believe Jimmy Savile drive that train!
