Thanks for having me on guys, this was a blast! And some really kind comments in here too. Neil - as I said, I'd love to have you jump on the subway and join me for a @CoolWorldsPodcast episode if you can!
My question is when Neil and you talk does the other person even have a CLUE at the size of the Brains he is playing with. Like He is a comic at trade. How can he even act like he understands a 10th of what you guys are saying.

What unique observational techniques might the Habitable Worlds Observatory employ to directly image exoplanet surfaces and differentiate between abiotic and biotic signals?
Directly imaging exoplanet surfaces presents an exciting challenge, especially when it comes to distinguishing between abiotic and biotic signals. Advanced techniques like high-contrast imaging with coronagraphs or starshades, combined with spectroscopy and polarimetry, seem promising for revealing surface features and atmospheric compositions. However, how effective are these methods in detecting subtle biosignatures, such as the red edge effect from vegetation or specific gas ratios indicative of life? Are there any emerging technologies or techniques that might enhance our ability to differentiate between non-biological and biological processes on distant worlds?
Neil can get a little spicy, especially to guests. Chuck knows how to lighten the mood, but he adds to the conversation as well. He's great at reading Neil and the guest. It's kind of like a table, 3 legs and it's rock steady.

Dr Tyson and Dr Kipping collab? AWESOME! Now we just need PBS Spacetime's Dr o'Dowd to also be present and we'll have the "holy trinity" of RUclips astrophysics and cosmology in one room.
I listen to startalk every day before i head to sleep, Neil's voice is just that relaxing! I rewatch multiple episodes and i keep going back to old episodes as well. Love you guys!!
I’m always glad to see Chuck sitting there! I almost wanna click off the movie when he’s not! He adds that sense of humor, otherwise it’s always so serious feeling! Go Chuck!
saw this uploaded 5 mins ago letssss goooooooooo love from canada ty neil for continuing to educate the general public on incredibly complex subjects in ways that are simple enough for the average person to digest while at the same time providing amazing insight in an entertaining way that is also incredibly informational. I love all you do neil keep up the amazing work you are a legend whether you realize it or not!
Dr. Kipping is one of my favorite RUclips narrators out there. I LOVE his Cool Worlds videos. And, not in an offensive way, he puts me to sleep with his videos. I usually need to watch his videos 2 or 3 times, giving him those extra views, to catch it all as I usually fall asleep during them. But, nit in a boring way. His voice is just so damn soothing it puts me to sleep! Another great episode Neil and Lord Nice!
I really love the chemistry between Neil and Chuck. You have to be really attuned to get those reactions and ask the guest to explain, which actually helps us, the audience, a lot too. :)
I was thinking about Chuck. He’s obviously a talented comedian, which belies a certain level of intelligence in and of itself.. but he also reminds me of me. He was probably an okay student who managed to at least occasionally pay attention in science class. And along with the rest of us, I’ve seen him become more science, literate over time. He’s just the one Regular viewer who gets to hang with you. And be very funny and entertaining and insightful. Way to go my man.
Thank you Neil, David and Chuck, I was having a rather terrestrial day. And this popped up in the feed and what a great show. Thank you Dr. Tyson and Dr. Kipping for the fine thoughts, expertise and passion about science. And a special thanks to Mr. Nice for being our everyman, I mean the answers are interesting but often the questions that get us there are just as important thank you for being so thoughtful Chuck. What a great video.
Chuck, do something like Ari Shaffir did, create your own website and put it there like PPV or something, its easier to promote than to sellout yourself for big companies for god know how much. Just my honest opinion. Btw love the podcasts.
Neil, someone’s gotta say it. You and Chuck Nasty had too much fun on this one. Us in the front row are tryin to learn and you two are in the back throwin paper airplanes telling fart jokes. 😂
Unfortunately for a lot of people it is necessary to keep their interest up. I feel like Chuck adds quite a bit to the conversation, often subtly asking excellent questions, or segwaying in a good direction with the humor.
When i discovered cool worlds in the very early days i enjoyed his channel soo much. Glad the channel has grown sooo much. He and his team is brilliant
So good to see NdT chatting with DK from Coolworlds. I love his channel and his ability to explain complex subjects of space and universe to regular folks.
It's fascinating to imagine that our sun could have siblings spread across the galaxy, each carrying a unique chemical fingerprint. The hunt for these lost siblings reminds us of the vastness and mystery of our universe.
I can still remember in the before days, where we thought we were the only solar system and there were no planets outside of ours, until I read Astronomy Magazine that highlighted the first confirmed exoplanet...now 30 plus years later it's even more exciting on how far we came where we can even see exomoons. Thanks for this episode
Holy cow, both of you guys are my favorite personalities and I have followed you two for a while now and I’m happy to see you guys talking shop. Hopefully more to come yeah.
Just a friendly piece of constructive critisicm - you guys should let your guest talk more and finish their discussion points before you interject. It seems to be often that your guests are in mid-sentence when they are cut off by a silly remark. I 'do' like this dynamic, but sometimes the interruptions are excessive. Just one guy's opinion 😊 Still love the show - but showcase the guests just a liiiittle bit more, please! We want to hear what they have to say.
Netflix should pick up Chuck's special just because of his contributions on Startalk. he would probably have a lot of people watching it just for this.
Love this episode! Hello from West Virginia! I live about 3 hours from the Greenbank telescopes and 2 1/2 hrs from my alma mater, West Virginia University, home of Dr. Sean McWilliams, who was part of the team that discovered gravitational waves. Astronomy is alive and well here in West Virginia. ❤
Thanks to both of you for this, I hope to see you two together more frequently going forward. It should be convenient enough, since you’re both nearby neighbors. Well done !!
Listening to you guys talk about new ways of thinking and new science my mind keeps going back to Charles H. Duell. Are we at that moment again. Someone somewhere once mentioned that since the 60's we've been coasting in terms of innovation.
Love the show. Quick note to the sound engineer, you could do with ramping up the attack on the gate, it’s a bit choppy. Either that or raise threshold.
The Kepler telescope has a fun orbit; it seems to be chasing earth from a safe but slowly increasing distance away from us. I wish you success in your search for cool worlds!
Because I was so excited to find this while researching for a wedding quote, I found the first instance known of the “star stuff” idea. “There was once a little girl who cried out with joy when she realized for one little moment that the earth is truly a heavenly body, and that no matter what is happening to us we are really living right up among the stars. The sun is made of star stuff, and the earth is made of the same material, put together with a difference.” 1913 June 15, Greensboro Daily News, Star Land by Ellen Frizell Wyckoff, Quote Page 8, Column 5, Greensboro, North Carolina.
