Mick always sets a calm presence into any room he goes into. You feel the peace and you can also see that he has a lot of deep thoughts running in him. To me he is an inspiration. Thank you.
+2Pactopus People like Mick and KRIT are keeping the true spirit of hip hop alive and afloat. I know a lot of people say 'oh you don't get it, or it's just over your head' and all that shit but I really feel like a lot of people who say Mick is whack don't understand what he's really saying in his tracks. The sound is a little different, and his style is something else. And if nobody likes him or doesn't feel him thats cool, but they can't deny the mans ability rap
idk about that I can see similarities but Jay was suppose to be the next hip hop prophet. Mick's amazing but he's never had that level of hype behind him.
I have not watched this interview yet but Im glad they got Mick up there bro really tells it how it is I'm 21 years old and Ol heads are always shitting on my generation we need more people to represent us like this we not all leaned and barred out!
thats because they grew up without a father....thats why they out here wearing purses and dresses while white men aren't doing that because they grew up around their dads.
Ummm I think that's a sweeping statement lol, maybe it's cos I'm from the UK and I have a lot of African friends - our fathers tend to stay on the scene. But I totally hear what you are are saying. I meant also that growing up black kids born in the 80s-90s tend to know names like Sade , Diana Ross , the temptations, marvin Gaye , fela kuti, Micheal Jackson , erykah badu, busta , little brother , common, NAS, ahmad , delight .. Lol loads of names .. It's due to the black mothers taste in music.
+graitbritton Not sure where you are from but i don't see any males in general wearing dresses around me in my day to day life . White males arent wearing dresses? There are a ton of white dudes who model for higher end brands like Raf simmons that wear dresses. Its not a fact of not having a father figure around it just artist fucking with high end fashion which tends to be eccentric.
The way he speaks in metaphor and analogy off the cuff is crazy to me, he has a developed world view and the tools to communicate it. To me he’s the blueprint, mick is gonna be king of the underground mark my words
cho flow Cole is a great artist great rapper but is not pushing his style out to his full extent and furthermore got FHD overhypdd to the point it got double platinum when it was at best an average record honestly my least favorite from him. Mick is way more lyrical tho
EXACTLY this is what i hate about ebro like if you havnt listened to someones music its fine but dont pretend like you do i also hate that on so many interviews he just be on his phone
best news all day! T.H.C. is gonna rock. found Mick last year listening to Black Hippy Radio on Google play. I play at least one of his albums everyday. this cat go hard
Rosenberg and Ebro shouldn't really speak on these mumble rappers though because they are apart of the problem. The mumble rappers never sell more but they get more attention and more spins by radio stations than the quality artists like Mick Jenkins. How many spins Mick Jenkins getting from Hot 97? It's not like ppl are just complaining for no reason, ppl want to know why mumble rappers even have a platform at all.
I agree w u man but they dont get to decide the songs they play. There is some company (I forget the name) and they take data to see the ratings on songs. So when you hear yachty its bc the kids like em. These kids outnumber us but they dont go out and buy the albums thats why its like this. These younger artists are balancing it out with radio spins bc they cant sell a show or promote an album like Mick or Isaiah or Vince or Earl.
Sam Jenkins yeh Nielsen does the ratings. I know program directors decide what's played but radio DJ's and personalities can still stand on their own two. All radio employees stand behind research as an excuse as to why they play what they play but it's really BS. The research is done in a bubble. They test songs being played for the average time people listen to a channel before deciding if that's what they want to listen to or change channels (which is like 11 secs I believe). Then they play these songs at all the peak radio times and as often as possible in hopes that when somebody turns on the radio they hear a song they are likely to love. So they choose songs people have made a snap judgement on that's 1) and 2) they never test how ppl feel about hearing the same ten songs back to back. So they research but they aren't researching thoroughly enough to see that ppl HATE hearing the same songs over and over on every station and that's why radio continues to be a dying medium. They are currently one of the only platforms that still have human curation, they have actual DJ's and taste makers working for them but aren't utilizing their resources to play the best music.
He needs more intervirews! Fire bars as always. he will go down as one of the greatest of my generation. Mick been killing it for the longest and I can't wait to get The Healing Component [THC]
CalebOnThe 33 It was weak. Compared to Trees and Truths and The Waters it was really mind blowing how less lyrical, less cohesive, less conceptual, less serious it was especially cuz the waves wasn't great and then everyone here in Chicago was like "oh he's just releasing waves to put us off for the album that's gonna but nuts" but then he released this and everybody was just hella let down. Not only did it not meet expectations but it was like wayyy below expectations. Too much pot clouding Mick's mind. I mean he seems straight on here and his old shit but idk what happened
YO another fact Jason Jenkins is not from Chicago. He went to school in the Chicago. To see Jason now, I'm super Proud of him. Congrats to his success...
Dude Mick Jenkins, Chance along with Alex Wiley are the artist imo who are putting Chitown on the map to me. Mick is probably my favorite rapper at this time as dudes music is beyond real, highly recommend all of his stuff & can't wait for the new album. That Drowning single mannnnnnnn its str8 🔥🔥🔥🔥
never gonna forget I got to see him perform the waters, Denzel Curry did a mix of everything, and Joey did most of his 1999 project... all on the same night for $25, got my money's worth that day.
Im a fan man. I got put on to Mick by Spotify through a playlist and man he just make music that is enjoyable to listen to, Chill to. Tracks like Healer and Jazz hit that right wave length. Vibe Levels #isthatwhathereckons
The song, yes its all good actually the whole THE WATER[s] Album is dope af. Theres still a great deal of his music I havnt heard yet. :D any suggestions?
I meant (T)he (H)ealing (C)omponent Album. But yeah, both songs are great (THC from The Water[s] album) and (The Healing Component from The Healing Component album). You should check out "The Mickstape" and "The Healing Component". :D
He talks just like he raps. His tone is literally the exact same lol dope

I was thinkin the same thing smh lol

EXACTLY
I guess i could MAYBE see the similarities
idk about that I can see similarities but Jay was suppose to be the next hip hop prophet. Mick's amazing but he's never had that level of hype behind him.

Shout out to Mick for not even correcting Ebro about Your Love
NoMoneyMedia he was actually right, Mick tweaked
Syed Ahmad No, he’s talking about @ 0:16 where Ebro said _Your Love_ was on _The Water[s],_ which it wasn’t. It was on _Wave[s]._
Black mothers taste in music always seem to influence these rappers
thats because they grew up without a father....thats why they out here wearing purses and dresses while white men aren't doing that because they grew up around their dads.
Ummm I think that's a sweeping statement lol, maybe it's cos I'm from the UK and I have a lot of African friends - our fathers tend to stay on the scene. But I totally hear what you are are saying. ah shit i listen to nothing my parents listen to. but punk was something my father and i each found independently.
The way he speaks in metaphor and analogy off the cuff is crazy to me, he has a developed world view and the tools to communicate it. To me he’s the blueprint, mick is gonna be king of the underground mark my words
Disgustingly underrated rapper
Mick Jenkins on the same level as Cole ,in the way they both talk about Love being the Answer
Please, mick is miles ahead of that soft pop artist
Fuck j Cole
Why does everyone hate Cole when he actually spits hes nice.(Friday Night Lights,Sideline Story)
Cole way to overrated he good but not as much as the bandwagons hype his ass up
cho flow Cole is a great artist great rapper but is not pushing his style out to his full extent and furthermore got FHD overhypdd to the point it got double platinum when it was at best an average record honestly my least favorite from him. Mick is way more lyrical tho

Yessss Mick is the greatest
I wonder if his southern roots have any influence on his music as well, cause he's originally from Huntsville, Alabama. Big ups to Mick
Would have loved to hear Mick Jenkins and Capital Steez on a track together. RIP STEELO.
YES!
Idk man I don't think they'd mix that well. Just my opinion
I am drawn to intelligent people like Mick Jenkins.
about damn time for a Mick Jenkins interview.
I've been watching for 30 Seconds and Ebro already said some dumb shut further proving that Ebro does not listen to anybody he claims to listen to.
EXACTLY this is what i hate about ebro like if you havnt listened to someones music its fine but dont pretend like you do i also hate that on so many interviews he just be on his phone
Bryan, it's not really fine tho, this is his job he could at least put a minimum of effort
