ive read that he is Miroslav Mecir protege witch makes a lot sens. They both move simular and both have rare abilities in changing ball direction and pace
Great video! I really like the analysis videos, I’m learning tremendously from them! I will definitely watch a little bit of Brooksby and the others you mentioned!
I am so happy someone like you (with your knowledge and platform) feels this way as well. The kid is a stud. Maybe not physically (yet?) but he has all the mental tools a player needs and is only 21... His game fits his body perfectly and he never overextends himself. If he can stay injury free, this man is going to cause a lot of problems for years to come.
Your probably the best coach I’ve seen online. Your videos always help out my game without over complicating the game and making me over think. Great job!!😁
Omg I have literally been thinking about this ever since his run at the US open last year. What an interesting young player. I really liked the quote you brought up- and I’m certainly going to try to bring that to my game. Personally, I would’ve like more specific examples of the broad themes Brooksby incorporates in his game. Like what did he do in particular against Khachanov, or yourself, or Tsitsipas? Either way, great video on a great topic Karue!
In the case of Tsitsipas he simpy got under his skin by staying in the rallies, bringing everything back without really doing anything special...with ungly strokes! And I dont say that as a joke. It can really play a role. A guy like Tsitsipas who is so naturally gifted and has beautiful technique... just thinks he should win these matches because he is the better all round player... at least technically. I struggled with this a lot as a junior. Just because I was so called talented people expected me to win most of my matches. But it just looked good. Tactically I wasnt that good. Mentally I was horrible. I didn't know what grinding was and I can go on. But the result of people (parents, coaches, other players etc) overemphasizing the technical part was that I too when I saw my opponent in warmup I would think (solely based on the technique of his strokes) Oh I should beat that guy. Tsitsipas actually made remarks about Brooksby's game being nothing special etc after the match.
I have a funny Brooksby story. I am about a year older than him (I'm a college senior playing D1 tennis), and I remember we played the same tournament in the Boys 12s: Winter Nationals in Tucson, AZ in December 2011. He went up against Boris Kozlov, Stefan's younger brother, and I kid you not, I saw them play a rally that was minimum 250 balls. And I say minimum because I started counting when the rally already seemed ridiculously long, and from THERE reached 250. Now, they weren't doing anything special; it was mostly moonballs, followed by one guy rushing to midcourt to take a swinging volley and then running back to the baseline. But what struck me was the sheer patience that this kid who had just turned 11 years old (I do also have to give Boris credit for his patience). Brooksby ended up winning the point and (I believe) the match. My friends and I always had this running joke continuing up through the 18 and unders that Brooksby simply was never taught how to miss. And now that he's a big dude, I can certainly see how much of a nightmare it is to face him.
also a brooksby fan here. just love watching him play. adding to all his qualities you already mentioned, ill add the one i think will make him one of the really best. his resilience, belief and you can see in his eyes he wants to win every match. i only find that look on nadal and djokovic
I squirm the entire time I watch him. Just weird-looking stuff. And the manufactured “grunt/groan/moan” thing. Irksome. Serve could use a dose of something. But you are 100% on point about his TIQ and execution. Inspiring and something a rec player like me can aspire to: the right shot at the right time. Not overwhelming power. Not obsessing over topspin. Learning to play the game, analysis of strengths and weaknesses. This is something we can learn to do. I’m going to go squirm my way through some more Brooksby matches. Thanks!
Tennis is a game of errors, my old coach used to say. Being consistent and making fewer errors than your opponents will lead to wins. Brooksby plays smart, high IQ tennis. Much to learn from, at all levels of the game. Thanks for sharing!
this is exactly what I needed thank you so much. Im a rising junior trying to go pro and your videos really give me a lot of insight on things. I think this video can help me greatly. Im going to start watching Jenson right now!
Clicked like before even watching. This guys is my favourite player right now. I love how he does both things well - being consistent, and going for winners. It's almost like he has 2 gears. He can just grind out the point forever Bautista Agut style, or he can go up a gear and rip insane winners. Rarely is a player insanely good at both!
I saw him playing couple of weeks ago in Miami. He was losing a match looking so bad and suddenly as you described he was able to figure what to do and change the match on his favor. He won 3-6/6-2/6-3. His technique is very unorthodox but very effective
Barring injury, I think Brooksby will be the top male US player and in the top 10 within 2 years. I also believe he is a potential major champion. His backhand is incredible, he has amazing touch and he moves incredibly well.
So glad he got the w against the Greek. Pity I found out the result before had a chance to watch this one. Next round I'm in beforehand 🤠. Also love this channel 🤩 thanks Karue.
Tsitsi - “He has nothing that kills, I would say”. Take a look at the scoreline Stefanos. 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. You couldn’t hang with him from mid-match. Too much arrogance from Stef.
welcome to the brooksby bandwagon, karue! there's an empty seat next to me! i've been a fan since 2019 when brooksby came through qualies and won our local futures tournament. we got to watch him hit a ton between the practice court and his matches. the balls he hit sounded like someone tearing a phonebook as they moved through the air. no one he played had an answer for his game either! furthermore, his grandma brought cookies! anyway, jenson brooksby= amazing player with a unique game that is tremendously entertaining to watch! thanks for another great video! keep it up!
There was a challenger match between Brooksby and Bjorn Fratengelo a few years ago in which Brooksby frustrated Fratengelo so much that Fratengelo screamed “this is so easy for you, isn’t it?” at him during the match 😁
Interesting analysis Karue. Saw JB at Newport 2021. Very quirky, but powerful too, plus he’s tall. He’s a bit panicky though. I think he might be stronger if he worked some meditation into the routine. PS: Does your plant need some water?
hey kirou, could you possibly do a video on doubles? I played a final match last night a high level and amongst the 4 players on court, I felt I was the weakest in terms of double tennis iq. 1 guy from my team is a former top 100 atp pro coach and the other player from the other team is a top division 1 player so they are highly experienced. They just knew when to cross, when to come in, they understand the angles and the court dimension so well. I feel if i were to play them in singles it would be an even match, but in doubles I felt I wasnt on the same level as them. Thanks mate
JB doesn’t allow his opponent to play from their comfort zone. Excellent counterpunching, good wheels, thinks outside the box a bit. If he can work on that serve a little bit, that’ll help him a lot. He’s never gonna get a lot of free points on serve, but he’s not gonna be 21 forever -> needs to not necessarily shorten points but make sure he can start at neutral.
Karue, eu te assisto já a bastante tempo... TU é Brasileiro!? Acho teu canal uns dos melhores do RUclips. Os jogos comentados, as dicas, tudo. Let me know if you are a non portuguese reading Brazillian... kkk
@@KaruesellHQ essa minha surpresa foi incrível. Muito legal. Mas enfim, falando de mim. Dentre muitas coisas que preciso evoluir é o tal Tennis IQ... tem como eu trabalhar isso ou é caso perdido. Kkkk
See how he does against Norrie (the defending champion, not that Indian Wells seem to think so being as he's been put on little courts). Very tough to beat on a slow surface as he can outgrind pretty well anyone.
Wish I had friends I could talk this kind of tennis with. Good video, good insights. Is Gui still around? I've been waiting for an updated shank video from him for a long time now. Does he read the comments or can you pass along my request to him? Thanks Karue. :)
Saw him play in Antwerp against Opelka and you are spot on : Even against his powerful game he was able to put so many shots so deep and making every ball though or akward to play it was insane. If he can improve his serve (not a weapon currently) to win a couple % points he could go to the top, altough Alcaraz will clearly be number 1
Love watching him. He made even Novak nervous and look ordinary in the first set. Really think Novak started calling his bluff after the first set. Jenson does a lot of no look plays. Novak started going the opposite way and catching him.
He reminds me of davydenko anyone feel the same? They don't have a big weapon; he doesn't have a killer shot. They're just insanely solid like it doesn't make sense.
Brooksby is an IQ giant. Plays like he has 40 years of experience at only 21. Like Mayweather out there turning pros in to amateurs, out boxing, out anticipating, too slick! I was hollering with joy watching his points lol. He also flies in on every return, while everyone else just stands there like a statue returning.
1. truly unique player that is off-putting for many to play 2. his game is kind of perfect for hardcourt...durable, agile, exhausting, but also quick 3. not a fan of his gamesmanship moments -- tapping the racquet during a rally; weird distractions like jumping around when opponent has a short winner, etc. it's immature. 3. the serve is criminally under-developed considering his height; looks like a technique that worked when he was younger/smaller...and yet it's oddly not a weakness...point is it should be a bigger strength 4. clay courts - he played 2 last year, a challenger in Florida (green clay) he won and then lost first round at RG...curious how his game, which is pretty flat, will translate... 5. His game is perfect for Indian Wells' garbage surface...slow, grinding sandpaper that sucks the life out of power players...would not be surprised one bit if he wins the whole thing.
I'm sorry but I don't buy the hype. His Tennis IQ is high but his shot quality is too low. Brooksby is the poor man's Norrie who is already the poor man's Medvedev who is the poor man's Djokovic
Top professional players are operating at such a different level. That guy at the local court that's maybe a 5.0 would get double bageled by an average D1 player and that D1 would get handed a similar score by a professional going through challengers and futures. Now, that last guy, he would be dismissed in straight sets in probably less than 40 minutes by a top 30. Brooksby reached a high of 33 at the tender age of 21 this year, so he's probably top 10 material. No wonder he made it feel like it's impossible to win. Now, pause and think about this: Sampras won his first the US Open at 19 years old. Guys like him during their prime were slaughtering top 20 players except maybe top 4 players like they didn't know how to hold a racket. At the top of the game, people are so good we can't even wrap our heads around it. It's not better. It's many orders of magnitude better.
Brooksby is a talent for sure. 😲 Hopefully, he stops tapping his racquet and flailing his arms (in an effort to distract his opponent) 🤦🏼♀️ like he did against Opelka at Del Ray.
I like you a lot, but sometimes you seem to go on longer than necessary on a certain thing. And without video of him, it seems that you just said he finds angles or something you won't like. I'd say that his backhand cross is his best shot. Angles off every time, it's never through. Then his slice. Lastly his insane ability to hit 116-118 every first serve! There was an Indian Wells match he hit 116 like 10 times in a row lol
lol Brooksby is losing to someone who plays similar in the sense that he has a high tennis IQ also. Cameron Norrie doesn't overpower people, but he just figures it out. Both of these guys somehow figure out their opponents and move through the draw. Saw Brooksby beat Fritz at US Open. He had him so frustrated that Fritz broke his racquet over his knee after match point. lol
This would have been a great video but with no footage it's like saying hit smooth like Federer. What a mess the ATP is screwing up tennis instead of promoting it

A winning style. I think he can go as far as he dares to dream. Wait............... think he might have that too! You're making some fantastic stuff, Karue. Thank you!
