I do not understand the communication strategy behind this movie. Why are they doing everything they can to hide that it's an adaptation of the Broadway musical ? Do they expect people how are not musical lovers to go see by mistake thinking it's a remake, and somehow be so surprised by it that they'll love it and tell all their friend ? People how do not like musicals are very very vocal about it and really don't like the surprise...
I agree the marketing has been weird but I think that's exactly the strategy they're going for. Not for word of mouth reviews but just to trick people for initial box office revenue.
Musicals haven't been performing well at the box office lately. West side story, in the heights, the color purple are all award winning and good reviews. But all bombed at the box office

I read an article about this. Apparently, movies marketed as musicals don’t do well.
It’s why the marketing for this and Wonka don’t mention that they are musicals.

I've been hearing a lot of positive buzz for Renee Rapp's performance as Regina George on Broadway so it'd be interesting to see how it turns out in the movie as the movie is going to be my first time seeing her interpretation, it should be a lot of fun. I do like the new song that she recently made with Megan Thee Stallion (I can't stop repeating Renee's line "Can a gay girl get an amen" in the song 😂🌈) so not only that i'm looking forward to her acting, but i'm also looking forward to her singing skills. I hope she has a great future ahead of her, she seems nice and surprisingly funny 🤗
If you want another taste, check out "The sex lives of college girls" (...and please ignore the softporn title...) - it's an awesome series about four young adult women from very different backgrounds in their first year at Essex, with all the humor, crises and bad choices that implies. Renee is delightful in it.
I saw the movie yesterday. She absolutely steals it. No disrespect to the rest of the cast - they're all good - but Reneé is outstanding.
