Well they didn't. If sans had like at least 5 atk, the fact that Invincibility frames are off would make you die in less than a second. They weren't lying, he has 1 atk, 1 HP, 1 Def, the only problem is, he dodges so as to negate the need for high health, and he has Karma on his side which makes most of his power.

You know, memes aside, this song is honestly really deep. You’ve killed everyone and have showed no mercy but the person you least expected to stop you is the person who claimed to be a lazy good for nothing weak skeleton like his brother (with all respect to the skeleton brothers) turns out to be someone you wish you never met. By reaching the surface you receive Sans call, in it he says right at the end: "... See ya." in his serious face. This implies either two things: he knows that you will reset and come back to do another route, or, he's gonna find a way to get out of the underground, and freaking murder you.

The word "overrated" holds no real meaning as a proper argument towards why you shouldn't like something. I would imagine resetting erases the current timeline and creates a new one but then again there are instances in the game where characters (especially sans) remember things from previous timelines. Maybe resetting makes you go back in time to where you started and some characters retain some small bits of what happened before you went back in time?

And when I watched a video talking about Papyrus’ battle sprite, the one where he doesn’t move, most enemies who’s battle sprites move the most are trying to kill you by any means. Sans only bobs. He knows he can’t kill you, so why try? Sans only tries to make the player rage or make them guilty so much to the point that they reset.

Sans tries to manipulate you the entire game into growing to love the characters by telling stories and making jokes so you don’t kill them. He knows you can, and even if out of curiosity, you kill everyone, this is his last struggle to stop you. This song embodies that perfectly. Everyone thinks he’s just a funny bone man that gets mad, but his understanding of your power and options even before you try anything shows he is much more than that.
Sans actually has a battle theme in the OST (Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans) but his desire to destroy you is so strong that this song plays instead
Scratch that; I do have something worthwhile to comment on this track. Everyone knows how a majority of the tracks in the OST are simple remixes or reworkings of each other, and almost every track is linked in some way. That doesn't apply to Megalovania; it's the odd one out. Now, there's an out-of-universe reason for this, in that it wasn't originally composed to be used in Undertale, but I think there's an in-universe reason for it too. This isn't Sans' theme, as most people have deduced. But this isn't Chara's theme song, either. It's yours. You, the player, have become the megalomaniac obsessed with LOVE. That's why it's unrelated to the rest of the tracks; you're not part of Undertale's world. You're an outsider looking in, and because of that, your song doesn't belong. However, if you look deeper into it, it plays when Sans is the final hope for survival. He also reveals his reason for being lazy, and his existing depression. When you kill him, he’s still smiling. He KNOWS he’ll be reunited from what you took away from him: His brother. This is a pretty amazing Homestruck remix, but when you think of it, Megalovania is quite sad. Sans knows it’s over, especially when you end the fight. He has no other option. Survival is moot, and *it’s all your fault.*

Even Asgore's theme offers that determination feeling, which is something that Megalovania heavily lacks. But in fairness, Megalovania is supposed to sound like a doomsday tune to the player, since that's your reward for being merciless toward others.

If you think about it, this perfectly captures sans in genocide because he has had enough of what you've become, a monster and he wants to make you quit or do a different route because he is one of the only characters with self-awareness. Sans is angry at you but he knows he can't kill you.

Sans can kill the character, yes, but the interesting and often spooky thing about Undertale is that it's programmed in such a way that the player's ability to keep trying again no matter how many times they fail is an actual part of the game's canon. So Sans is aware that no matter how many times he "kills" you, it's all a waste because you can just try again and again and again until you get good enough to defeat him. There's no such thing as a true death in a video game unless you give up. That's why during battle he keeps trying to urge the player to throw in the towel --- because that's the only way he can win.

I think people often ignore that the song is about the player, and not sans who's just trying to stop the megalomaniac. Sans already has a battle song but you're so powerful that megalovania plays instead. Its him trying to beat you

Plus, when somebody starts a fight with you, their boss fight theme plays and you get the first attack. (Undyne, mettaton EX, asgore) but here, sans gets the first attack. This implies that YOU started the fight with sans. You’re not trapped with him, he’s trapped in here with you. Following this logic, the song that plays must be OUR theme. WE started a fight with him, so he gets the first attack, and OUR boss fight theme plays.
Sans knows that you can save and reset, so this battle is just him trying to delay the inevitable.

I would imagine resetting erases the current timeline and creates a new one but then again there are instances in the game where characters (especially sans) remember things from previous timelines. Maybe resetting makes you go back in time to where you started and some characters retain some small bits of what happened before you went back in time?

Scratch that; I do have something worthwhile to comment on this track. Everyone knows how a majority of the tracks in the OST are simple remixes or reworkings of each other, and almost every track is linked in some way. That doesn't apply to Megalovania; it's the odd one out. Now, there's an out-of-universe reason for this, in that it wasn't originally composed to be used in Undertale, but I think there's an in-universe reason for it too. This isn't Sans' theme, as most people have deduced. But this isn't Chara's theme song, either.
It's yours. You, the player, have become the megalomaniac obsessed with LOVE.
That's why it's unrelated to the rest of the tracks; you're not part of Undertale's world. You're an outsider looking in, and because of that, your song doesn't belong. It forced its way in, just like you forced your way into everyone's lives through Frisk and Chara. Chara may be an evil, genocidal maniac, but you? You're the ultimate villain. And this is your song.

This plays during the Genocide Route finale, which you know. It’s mostly known for it’s memes, and it’s quite cool. However, if you look deeper into it, it plays when Sans is the final hope for survival. He also reveals his reason for being lazy, and his existing depression. When you kill him, he’s still smiling. He KNOWS he’ll be reunited from what you took away from him: His brother.
This is a pretty amazing Homestruck remix, but when you think of it, Megalovania is quite sad. Sans knows it’s over, especially when you end the fight. He has no other option. Survival is moot, and *it’s all your fault.*

If you think about it, this perfectly captures sans in genocide because he has had enough of what you've become, a monster and he wants to make you quit or do a different route because he is one of the only characters with self-awareness. Sans is angry at you but he knows he can't kill you.

Sans can kill the character, yes, but the interesting and often spooky thing about Undertale is that it's programmed in such a way that the player's ability to keep trying again no matter how many times they fail is an actual part of the game's canon. So Sans is aware that no matter how many times he "kills" you, it's all a waste because you can just try again and again and again until you get good enough to defeat him. There's no such thing as a true death in a video game unless you give up. That's why during battle he keeps trying to urge the player to throw in the towel --- because that's the only way he can win.

+kyle darby no, you only have a theme in the pacifist run, when you do a genocide run you lose all rights to any praise or recognition. Undyne gets the true hero song, and Sans gets this godly theme. HE is the judge...he is the punishment you get for even trying the genocide run, you dont get a song, you get no reward, instead you get his judgement
