      I estimate about 3500 cu meters every 4-5 minutes now (based only on reported output nearly 20+ cu m/sec and timing outflows from these videos. At that rate that's a volume at each eruption equal to a cube of lava 45-50 feet on a side, or per hour equivalent to a cube 120+ feet or ~ 35 meters on each side -- the size of a 10 story tall building! I wonder if the ground has sunk from the weight.

    @GutnTog, how far is it from the volcano to your meditation rock? I am trying to judge how far lava has travelled.. Totally amazed that it has spewn out so much lava and is so close to the road and ocean. Love that you speak in the videos as it gives us more of a knowledge of the surrounding area. Please stay safe, and wear a respirator to save your lungs.

    I am so glad you spoke to this woman Roman! Icelanders have a reputation worse than Germans ( no kidding) of being "not approachable" to being outright unfriendly, which of course is not true. It is our mentality. We are reserved. :)

      With the state of things I don't blame anyone for being unfriendly. Nobody has patience for rude or fake responses. As an American I do apologize for this encounter. I'd LOVE to trade shoes with her and actually pay attention for a whole week...instead of tagging along and bragging on instagram. 🤷‍♀️😅

      I keep wondering why there is still so much pressure since the volcano has already expended so much lava.

    • @Alex-wg1mb
      @Alex-wg1mb 3 года назад +4

      @@watchgoose this lava is straight from mantle its very hot and pressurized has lots of water vapor to keep erupting.
      Vent is getting wider as magma melts the sides of it. Unless stream blocks itself its not gonna stop any time soon ) Cheers!

      @@watchgoose In 2018 during the fissure 8 eruption in Hawaii, the flow from that thing was twice that of this one and it was nonstop for 8 months. I used to wonder how the hell it kept spewing out enormous quantities of lava. It seemed like it would never run out. This Iceland volcano has a lot of large flows too, but they are not nonstop. It erupts, takes a rest, then erupts again as can be seen in this timelapse of the eruption. ruclips.net/video/6UVi4KPMos0/видео.html

    What does lava do to concrete? Wondering I’ve Jersey Barriers could be erected to redirect the lava flow downhill and across the flats to the beach. Hopefully they could minimize damage near the roads.

    Amazing how a volcano can build itself into a mountain! It would be cool if at some point you could do a showing of how each area has changed over the months - like the wall, for instance. People would be shocked!

      Mostly water vapor, with CO2, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide, and other gases in lesser percentage.
