One of my all time fav gaming experiences. I was only about 14 when I played it. I was obsessed with it. Turned out I liked thinking and using my brain.
Man I remember watching this on my disk copy of Myst back in like '96 or '97 and being blown away by the level of detail. It was incredible for it's time.
I remember watching this off the CD. His face when, he first shows myst island, is forever engraved in my brain.. A truly inspiring moment. ❤ I thought there was a "in memory of" at the end. Maybe im confusing with another video 🤔
Back when 2 guys alone had the tools at their disposal to create something that matched their creative vision, without it being diluted by the input of 1000 other very necessary developers. Modern game dev tools are so powerful but also far too difficult to master. Maybe AI can change that, but the cost will be terrifying.

The music inspired me when I was 13. I am now a soundtrack artist
It's hard to believe that Rand and Robyn almost didn't add music to the game because they thought it would ruin the immersion.
thirty years later still way ahead of its time even in 2023. i challenge y'all to make a 3d world as sophisticated as mystland.
One of my favorite game series !

Man I remember finding this Making Of either with the game box or in the game's file directory and watching it as a kid!
Myst really was a cd-rom add in seller. Just imagine the amount of floppy disks you would need to even store myst back in the day.
Or imagine UruLive today, including all fan Ages so far, on floppy disks.
Between 550 to 1000. cd-roms had a max capacity of 900 mb

Happy 30th Anniversary (1993-2023)
Considering this game came out in 1993 it was very ahead of its time
The music is so iconic
their voices are the same)
