Greatly appreciate the practical approach to have with this. If I ever decide to dip a toe into Foundry, I'll circle back to check out those videos as well.

no follow up video for how combat encounters and initiative works? :(

When I made these videos, the "Encounters" part of DDB were not working, and didn't function with the VTT in a useful way.
But you're right, I didn't do a "here's how combat works". I can do one of those in the next couple of days.

That would be awesome. Your explainer videos for AboveVTT are the best.

I am unsure if you mention this later on. I am at 33:00 now but while tinkering around I had noticed because in DnD Beyond I made an Encounter for the Butterskull Ranch mission that I plan to do this weekend before I learned of AboveVtt. I saw that in Tokens there is an option for Encounters and if you made an Encounter on DnD Beyond with monsters for set rooms in the farmhouse. As the mobs are set in the Encounter they were exactly the same in Encounter builder. Thought I would share this tidbit.

Hi there. At the time of recording this, the Encounters function in DnDBeyond was very much still a Beta thing and didn't really translate to AboveVTT in any meaningful way, so I didn't use it. I had my final session on AboveVTT run this Tuesday just passed - final group to move to Foundry.

@@clay_golem I wish that AboveVtt used the Alchemist's .dam files
unfortunate I can not afford foundry thanks to rents ever increasing effort to keep me broke.

That's pants. Yeah Foundry isn't cheap to get started, but once you have it, you have it for life - but you're right that rent and food has to come first.

Just learning to use this platform; this and the other video you have about AboveVTT are brilliant! Easy to follow, and your speech and way of talking are a pleasure to listen to. Great job, thanks a ton! =)

      Thanks.
I've moved away from AboveVTT completely now. While it's good, the little updates that happen in the background seem to throw something out every session. Vision and walls are not perfect by any means. As a free option, it's great! But I'm fortunately enough to be able to pick and choose my platform.

@@clay_golem What would you say are the main benefits of using Forge, which i noticed you have a lot of videos about, and does it feel like a worthwhile investment compared to Above? Do ignore this message if needs be, don't wish to burden and take your time unnecessarily because of my ignorance.

@@laurinollitaneli First up, I don't use Forge (which is essentially a hosting service with lots of extras). I assume you meant Foundry.
      1) Stability - you only update bits when you want/need to - so your game doesn't get wrecked by a pushed update
      2) Solid core functionality for building games, and it's only getting better!
      3) While there is a cost, it's a one-time purchase. No ongoing costs required (there are some options that cost, but you absolutely don't need them).
      4) Supported directly by WotC for D&D, which means we're seeing rapid improvements supporting those games
      5) A HUGE community of people ready to help if you get stuck
      6) A HUGE range of add-on modules (mostly free!) to make your game experience what you want it to be
      7) Foundry supports an absolute ton of different games, not just D&D, all for the 1 original purchase price.
EDIT: 8) There's some direct integration stuff with DnDBeyond, so you can pull characters and bits directly into Foundry - WIN!
Currently it is king of the VTTs, and it's only getting better.
FYI: We're pushing the 1k subs mark, and I'll be doing a giveaway of a free Foundry key to one lucky subscriber, so... Maybe it'll cost you nothing? 😉

The Above VTT series won't be very long (not actually that much to show off), but if you're thinking of using it, and have questions, just dump them in the comments and I can try and answer them.
