Talk about a “bitching” lesson...holy smokes those 2 fly and you ain’t no soft banana of a teacher Sir Michael. Wowzers what a video. Seriously, I don’t know if this will make sense or not, I love your work, knew this was gonna be off the charts, and watched and listened one time fully though before picking up my guitar! That is a compliment of compliments cause I reached for it the whole time, but was also mesmerized. I go to school for music and I gotta say, you’re a fantastic break to studying because working inside your videos is just so much fun. Thanks for being such an incredible teacher. It’s been a pleasure bumping into your video. That “Dust In a Baggy” lesson was my first with you...and myyy goodness...you’re the real deal in many ways. I look forward to many more with you! Thanks again. You do music right and all of us who want a little more. Like that flat 9!!!...boom.
thanks for your post. validates my decision to pick up my 1st guitar in May and subscribe with MP once I graduate at UNC. His enthusiasm is contagious.
I was there. Billy Strings was the artist in residence for the festival - he was playing multiple sets daily and jamming with just about every other artist on the bill. 5 days straight of mind melting music. This set in particular brought the house down.
I have told you this before, but I would like to repeat it here: man, since I subsribed to your lessons, I have rediscovered my love for the guitar. An instrument I had left standing in a corner for many years, Thanks ever so much. Grateful forever! I have learnt so much: incredible.
Hell yeh! Michael is a great teacher! as i think ive heard him say before, (not exact words) 'a teacher should do and love what they teach, everyday' His passion and knowledge comes through and you can tell he loves what he does and is constantly active on the guitar. More guitar teachers should take notes from Michael for sure!
Music is a language the same as any other. When two people are fluent in the language and are fluent with the ability to speak it, this is what you get. Greatness!!! 👍
... have watched the Billy and Tommy over and over many times ... learned this tune back in the early 60's ... recognize many of the licks they employ in this rendition of the guitar boogie shuffle ... they smoke it for sure ... and, they are challenging each other to the max as you have noticed ... so cool ... been there and have experienced being pushed to the max with talented musicians ... LOVE IT !!!
WOW! I've seen that video before but not with a play by play like you have given. I love how you articulate in music talk(lack of a better term) (flat7, major, minor etc...) Never realized their posture was a sign of them pushing each other respectively. Thank you for reacting to this and explaining what they were doing. Made it so much better. The 30 plus minutes flew by. Loved It!!!
This is pure gold - so grateful for these (three) heroes! I get so amped watching this performance and by watching MP getting just as amped. These guys COOK!
Found a perfect quote: “For me, music has always been about collaboration-the push and pull you get from another human being’s energy,” explains Tommy. “Even when I play solo, it feels like I’m playing to the emotions I’m getting from the crowd. To feel the love or the joy or the hope coming through these other pickers and singers was electric-I played in ways I never would on my own.”
I love these reaction vids. Usually I don’t watch people watch youtube vids BUT yours are very enjoyable. Its the honest reaction to the music that we all share. PLUS you explain the music. Congrats bro!
i'm a new subscriber to guitargate and have listened to tommy since before i could walk and talk. He's a marvel. Prepare to see way more of him on the requests page
The best thing about this video is that it's a jam. In front of an audience. They didn't practice it together. It's Tommy's gig and he calls Billy onto the stage. He says, "This is our rehearsal. Guitar Boogie, E major." Then they get going. Then they do a second track that wasn't planned. If you can do that, on this level, you're good.
so cool... got into billy strings by exactly this video.. grabbed my guitar again after several years.. and got into your channel by your billy-video... now watching you reactin' to this video makes that circle complete.. :) love your channel - keep it up!
I asked for this a while ago in a live session and i am very lucky and happy that you or this community really picks the best music to review by you.. ❤💛💚🤙
I would actually love to see these two pull you up on stage with them. I’m positive that you could garner their respect quite well. Another awesome musical dissection Michael, and yet you’re human enough that many of us can finally be able to see where our musical chops are deficient. You’re pretty darn awesome as a teacher AND outright musician😌😎
Ha I just saw it the other day. So cool to see you doing it, I love the way you explain what they're doing, not just about the notes they're hitting, more so the later part of the video, please do the Paco Al and John one soon. It is absolutely amazing as well
Passion Michael...Passion! You have it...and its what the best you "react to" have! I subscribed not because I play guitar, but because you bring a deeper insight to great artists through your knowledge and an almost child like excitement! And that is a compliment...because as I reach the twilight years of life...its the pure unfiltered joy on a child's face unmarked by the yuk of adulthood/society that reminds us why we are here! This and the fact that you have hit at least 10 of my current favorite Artists :) Tommy has collaborated with so many of the best young pickers out there...I see 2 on my recommends as I watch this...Molly Tuttle and Trey Hensley. Getting away from the true guitar player acts...give a look at Charlie Crockett...he will just make the world come to a crawl with his old Western/Honky Tonk feel. Keep grinning Michael!
Billy must be so excited, and nervous playing with such a guitar god. I wouldnt be able to even look at a guitar and think about touching it in the presence of such greatness
gotta confirm. I know Billy is extremely talented aswell, but come on, its TOMMY!!! I'm sure even Slash and other insanely talented players would be abit nervous playing alongside him
I agree with you; Billy is so young still, still super humble and seems to be an awesome human. But a person or million have whispered in his ear, put it in the back of his mind that he’s a legend. He’s one of the ones, besides the classic legends that I’ve introduced my kids to (having a 3 year old ask to hear “billy stings” is about the cutest and coolest things to hear. Keep on keeping’ on, Michael. Love the content!
Trust me Billy isn't nervous at all if anything he is super excited he gets to play with some one of his caliber. Dude lives and breathes guitar and has been playing with older super talented musicians his whole life . Deserves every right to stand right next to Tommy.
Two masters on a great standard. Both showing their knowledge of the tune. Pulling out every trick they know will work. Seeing what the other has to add.
Michael.. Love the stuff, you've made me hear some of my favorite songs in a new way after 20 years of listening to them ! Keep it up, and I got some requests in mind for sure. All the best to you and yours.:)
you keep saying not note for note, broad strokes... but what i'm hearing, i must be drawing from a toddler's coloring book lol sounds identical to me lol sheeeeseh i hope i can break it down like this one day. it amazes me how i've grown in the past few years, hearing intervals and even chord shapes in much of the worship music we play and listen to, but this..... holy smokes... i don't know how you guys hear the different scales, modes, and chords in all the different positions. if i'm honest, the ability to play like that is definitely a God-given talent but my gosh, Michael, you're a whole other step above to break it all down, and even understand why it is what makes it so great. Thank you for the great work you do for the guitar community. I truly hope to take your course as soon as i can. I can't imagine how it wouldn't help me progress.
Search for more guitar boogie by Tommy he plays it different each time. He loves to play and it shows. Wish him and Roy Clark could have played together. That would have been entertaining as well.
Hey Mike!! Im pumped you dug this as much as I did! A new legend jammin with a god!! "the little run down that only Tommy can do. lmao. love your content. lovew your lessons. love you. thanks dude. GO BIlls.
I really like your site. I am not a guitar player. I am lost at all techniques. But I enjoy, that you and others enjoy and learn. Thank you not for techniques I pass along may erlewine k k from Michigan k :) just nice
I just watched it right before this. Was hoping someone commented about it. It was like Tommy said, alright kid show em what you got. What followed was some of the coolest guitar I've ever seen.
fishing analogy is spot on. it like the day you find the biggest fish in the pond....the biggest fish you ever caught...and having it on "your" line. Big moment.
There are live versions of One Way Out where Duane sits on the one lick all the way through and during the 4, where Dickey and the band naturally go to. I used to do this live with many bands over the decades it sounds great.
I don't say this to be mean, in ANY way, but this is kind of like watching a commercial explaining the amazing picture you get on a new, 4K television, but watching the ad on an old CRT. I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the effort you make to break it all down...and I'm a drummer! :)
Gee, I can play about 8 chords,,, poorly, but love watching Billy and Tommy any time. Stevie Ray Vaughn loved being pushed by other guitarists as well. Jeff Healey did just that on "Look at Little Sister" live. Also love watching you fanboy over these two as well. RESPECT.
Another great Tommy Emmanuel piece is his little improv cover of "Purple Haze". Thats not even touching his "House of the Rising Sun" covers, of which there are several and, true Tommy fashion, are all different. Love the content!
just got off a music cruise with tommy emmanuel..wow...what a player...please oh please check out sierra hull, she is mandolin player/singer with incredible ability (actually went head to head with chris thile (who was with the punch brothers) on the boat. ps he also played with tommy emmanuel...sheer joy. mavericks are great too.
I know you will love Tommy Emmanuel playing gypsy jazz with Frank Vignola and Vinnie Rainola. They toured all over Europe and America for a couple of years.

Dude. Love you brother. That b9 was just plain nuts..... You sir, get the pin.
thanks for your post. validates my decision to pick up my 1st guitar in May and subscribe with MP once I graduate at UNC. His enthusiasm is contagious.
I have no clue what he’s talking about but nod my head and agree like I do.. love this!
Im with you. Its fascinating
Same here.....but I love both Billy and Tommy.....have seen Billy several times, but have seen Tommy over 30 times
I don't have a clue either, but he's fascinating to watch. Love this guy.
I thought I was the only one! 👍🏻
You’re not alone 😄

@@forget2bhuman993 Thanks my friend!
I'm experiencing an urge to learn guitar. I'm 50 and have zero musical skills.
You can't explain native and original talent in your veins, what you're trying to explain flows naturally
Music is a language the same as any other. When two people are fluent in the language and are fluent with the ability to speak it, this is what you get. Greatness!!! 👍
Respect for this one. You didn’t flinch where most would have fainted.

Oh yeah. gotta push back.
these two are on another planet. another universe.
This put just a big smile on my face as Tommy and Billy did when I first heard the video.
Instant subscriber. Looking forward to following you.
I’ve seen Tommy perform Guitar Boogie 7 or 8 times and it’s always wonderful. It’s especially impressive when he follows it up with Jerry’s Breakdown.
oh, to have a tenth of the talent of either of the guys - one can only wish..!
This is pure gold - so grateful for these (three) heroes! I get so amped watching this performance and by watching MP getting just as amped. These guys COOK!
Great video, Michael. Always inspiring watching two masters go at it!
It's just amazing to me to see music come out of person's pores so effortlessly as if they are just breathing. Beautiful to watch.
LOVE Love this geeking out of these two amazing players going at it!!! THANK You! Smiled the entire time:-) and posted on my bday lol

Tommy and Frank Vignola on Woodsongs doing Caravan was the most epic duo guitar I have ever seen. And at BREAKNECK speed.
Congrats on 200K. Glad I’ve been here since 50K or so. Deserved!
Please review Tommy Emmanuel's "Initiation"! You will be amazed!
Absolutely amazing piece of music by TE

Great concise explanation of what turnarounds are for. Never heard it quite like that, but it makes sense.
Oh boy, that view looks stunning!
I always watch the faces on this video, same as the others they do from this concert - another great React vid!!
I got the chance to meet Tommy at one of his shows in Pennsylvania hes such a nice guy. Great show he even gave one of my buddies his guitar pic
Now we are wading in the deep end! Thanks MP! Sorry for my comments sir. Love the illustration of the turnaround!! Thanks for your help buddy!!
What a great list, The Be Good Tanya's, love them, Townes!

You know it buddy!
These two guys are from another planet and probably brought Molly Tuttle with them. But how cool would it be to get to play with them. :-) Be Safe
Don't forget Marcus too. Could you imagine the 4 of them sitting around just Picking?
Love the channel and I would have never caught that flat 9. Solid gold!
Love how excited you are lol
Brilliant video again Michael!
❤❤❤❤❤100% Iron sharpens iron in every aspect of life.
You are a FANTASTIC TEACHER
I really like your site. I am not a guitar player. I am lost at all techniques. But I enjoy, that you and others enjoy and learn. Thank you not for techniques I pass along may erlewine k k from Michigan k :) just nice
Please do their Working Man Blues that came right after this....Tommy pushes Billy at the end and his face just lights up!
Tommy Emanuel is a freak
I just watched it right before this. Was hoping someone commented about it. It was like Tommy said, alright kid show em what you got. What followed was some of the coolest guitar I've ever seen.
fishing analogy is spot on. it like the day you find the biggest fish in the pond....the biggest fish you ever caught...and having it on "your" line. Big moment.
Billy strings is an amazing player and his picking sounded cleaner but Tommy just has so many tricks up his sleeve it's ridiculous
Agreed. Billy still has a few tricks to learn. Tommy is just mind boggling brilliant.
Hope you saw the next song they played right after this also.
I love your reviews
Loved it now do the Molly Tuttle video there is videos of her with Billy and her and Tommy as well.
There are live versions of One Way Out where Duane sits on the one lick all the way through and during the 4, where Dickey and the band naturally go to.
I used to do this live with many bands over the decades it sounds great.
New studio? Congratulations!
The Emmanuel brothers would play at my local pub in the 1980’s
NICE
That must have been an experience
@@Guitargate I could never split them. Phil was just great, world class. Together, they were a hoot.

Excellent God bless
Lmao can't tell if I'm more impressed with you or the video!
Saw a video where Tommy was talking about practicing and hand strength. Said he would play guitar boogie non stop for an hour. Chops.
GREAT VIDEO
And then there's a little rundown that only Tommy can do...
Truer words. :)
Thanks!
I love the video, but Tommy wasn't doing Eddie V, it was Les Paul. That was totally his turn around from the 50s.
Love your mini me in the background!
I laugh soo hard at these! The skill is ridiculous on both ends! Thank you!

just got off a music cruise with tommy emmanuel..wow...what a player...please oh please check out sierra hull, she is mandolin player/singer with incredible ability (actually went head to head with chris thile (who was with the punch brothers) on the boat. ps he also played with tommy emmanuel...sheer joy. mavericks are great too.

Quality stuff dude!
I saw that right up front. Love Grey Fox to death.
Wow. I've been watching the working man video from this set and thought that was kickin. THIS shit right here 😁
Awesome as usual!!Maybe do a reacts for the newbies. Take any key and graphically show what you mean by “finding the third” “flat fifth” etc.
Great video ...nice!

I was there! Greyfox is a great festival!
I thought the crowd could have been more receptive. They sound lazy. They had gods of guitar in front of them.
Nice!!!
You gotta do a livestream where you just solo over the live playlist “Lofi hip hop radio- beats to relax/study to” for a bit
I was there babyyyy
NICE :)
Gotta get that crowd a little more enthused. Its their job.
