    I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail and averaged about 25 miles/day and I give you props because 54km is solid for going into your challenge without training. On the Appalachian Trail it usually takes about 1-2 weeks before peoples bodies acclimate to the physical stress. Most people can barely manage more than 12-15 miles / day the first week. At about the halfway point of the 2000 mile journey 20-30 miles each day is routine and easy for most people... which shows how capable the human body is at adapting to whatever environment.
    Shoes are a big thing people struggled with on my hike. Ball of foot pain/soreness (improper footwear) can be brutal... took me 3 different pairs of shoes before I sorted that issue out.

    • @positivevibes201
      @positivevibes201 2 года назад

      Hi Micloren, what kind of shoes would you recommend for the kind of hike you done? thanks

    • @Micloren
      @Micloren 2 года назад

      @@positivevibes201 Most people switched to a minimalist or trail-runner shoe with a highly flexible sole. I personally ended up doing 70% of the hike in the 1st gen Nike Free running shoe.
      Funny anecdote: About a weeks hike into the Appalachian Trail there is a road crossing that has an outfitter that a lot of people stop in to swap or send home gear. Theres a tree out front with hundreds of shoes tied to it from people who realized the same pain & biomechanics issues I did.

    I like your message, although after completing several ironmans, multiday fasts, cold/heat exposure, intense meditational retreats and the list goes on... I can still fuck up my brm rules and go crazy when I get some badbeats, bad runs etc. and I feel I could do anything phisically, but it's still freakin hard for me to deal with my mental game during poker, and I feel bouncing back from these states in poker is the biggest thing that helps me to get stronger in dealing with these and not really the other "harder" challenges that are for some reason way easier for me.

    Ben, that was a fine effort esp given your lack of being match fit and of course the mud being quick-sand like can seriously fk with your head so all in all you have put some Respec in your name cuzz. GG and ima think you will rock the 100 mark as soon as you put your mind to it. All the Best for this sir.

    Nice video and good try. I am very unsuccessfull in poker to be honest but "proved" my abilities to myself in similar challenges. Last one was te Araroa, its actually 3049 km walk and took 129 days. And its 90% mental challenge. In the beginnig I was wasted after 15km and so but gradually depending on terrain 40-50km was no efford.
    You will find that your limits are limitless, everything else is just excuses. I am sure you could do this with 3 months training. Problem is that then you will start to strech your challenges and they will be more and more extreme (and rewarding).
    Thanks for the video, really enjoyed it.

    did a similar thing with a friend. we've crossed montreal by foot,a bit more than 63km in 14 hours. i don't see how 100km would be possible unless you have years of practice. Also when you do big hikes you should almost stretch a bit every kilometers and especially towards the end should never take big breaks.

    You run out of glycogen and got zonked. Go on a ketogenic diet and go into ketosis like hunter gatherers did before agriculture. That means 30 percent protein and 70 percent fats and less than 50grams of carbs a day. You will go into ketosis and body will run on ketone bodies(fats) instead of glucose. Generally you have only 2 to 3 thousand calories of glycogen stored in your muscles and then you get zonked. Ultra distance runners go into ketosis for their races. I believe if you prepared by going on a ketogenic diet and gone into ketosis you would at least do 80 km+. Google it.

    • @Photonface
      @Photonface 2 года назад

      On that diet you will go into ketosis in 3 to 5 days. Also make sure you take extra salt as your body will use more on that diet. If you don't you will have what they call 'keto flu' where basically fell hot flu like symptoms because of lack of sodium and mainly potassiun. So buy 'Low salt'' salt which potassium chloride, well basically do sone research about this on the net.

      i started with 3500 steps a day, 121kg. if I'd walk 10km its more dramatic to me. now i can walk 40km without pain. it depends on people, their body and mindsets. some times i realised if i walked through talking to someone on phone, i get to pass by kms without knowing. doing it alone hits the mind hard to walk the same.
