- I've been coming to California since I was 12 years old, but for some reason I never got a chance to stop by & surf Rincon. However, today I ran into a local legend while checking a random surf spot & he told me to make the u turn & head back to Rincon Point for some waves! I am stoked on this trip & excited for the next week! - Ben

My little dreamer is 5. He jumped on a skim board Saturday and wiped out face first...hops up looks at me and says I'm goood...and takes off running for another try!!! He's my claim...he keeps me alive and thrivin! Dream on dreamers...state your claim and stick to what makes you smile!

DUDE! That was my favorite surf spot back in the late 60s and early 70s! I've surfed it at 11 feet breaking about 1/2 mile off the point. Mind you, no leashes back then. Brutal!

Nice to see a Jersey surfer catch some Rincon. I grew up on the New Jersey Shore, Seaside Park Midway Beach to be exact surfing Midway and Casino Pier. That's where I learned to surf in the 60's into the 70's, ...starting at 7 years old. Graduated High School in 1979 and bailed for Cali 18 years old, drove solo cross country in a 1975 CHevy Monza. Two high school buddies were already out in Santa Barbara a surfing buddy from my home room so that's where I landed of course. I ripped Rincon starting in 80/81. It was my go to spot, to hell with everywhere else. Surfed IV after work on days it was too late to head to rincon after work 5:00 till dark in the winter or sometimes in the dark, IV beach, Devereux, Campus but nothing in SB county compares to Rincon.
MY RINCON STORY: Best day I ever had at Rincon was in 1981 EPIC RECORD HUGE swell solid triple overhead 15' with waves/sets topping out at 20'(sets/wave of the day.....20' believe it or not). This was monstrous HUGE ANGRY Rincon if you know what I mean. Got to work 7:30 am machine shop and told my boss I'm off for the day I am going surfing. Let me go or I quit. I was 19 years old and didn't give a damn. I came to Cali to surf and this was an epic swell. He said get out of here go surfing and he also cut loose my CA buddy that worked there and surfed. So the two of us left work before work started and got down there, beach was packed with hundreds of folks with maybe at most 10-12 guys out all day. When it gets big the Rincon crowd diminishes fast. I thought there were sharks in the water because in Jersey we have big blue sharks 8-10' that will cruise the drop off right behind the shore break. LOL, here's the funny part, so I ask some dude standing there what was up if there were SHARKS out there why weren't there more people out? My buddy laughed and said no sharks, monster waves thin the crowd. We laughed about the shark question at many a drunken party back then. GREAT awesome day I will never forget. Well that's this Jersey Boys EPIC tale from Rincon the Queen of the Coast.
Now imagine this on a glassy 4-6 foot day! you will see why it is called the Queen!

When I was 17 in 1971 I went to PR on spring break from HS and me and a couple of friends stayed in Rincon to surf . We surfed Domes, Maria's and Tres Palmas for 2 weeks. It was 6 ft and above everyday. No leashes back then. I had a 6'10 And it was some of the best waves I ever surfed.

I grew up surfing Rincon Every Day in the 80's and 90's We used to ride our bike down the freeway to get there from Carp. A little to crowded now for my taste but a fun wave. About time you made it to Rincon. Locals at Rincon that is funny. TPL
My local spot from back in the day. I use to live two miles away from this gem 💎. To bad you didn’t catch it on a good day. This spot fires when it’s good. Oh Yeah it also gets pretty crowded even on a decent day.
Man you are reliving my journey. Grew up in the 90's surfing Cape Cod. Then went west to cali the to North Shore for 20+ years. You are surfing all these spots and bringing back so many memories. I forgot I even surfed Rincon. Never surfed Jersey since the Cape is better (:

On a good swell it's better to park in the upper lot. Paddling from the right side of indicators. Which has a left you could ride too. That's when you can get the Cali Jeffries freeway.
