I hold the buyers accountable for the sales of this imported ice.
Are we short on freezers and water in Jamaica?
    Are we so dependent?
There is always the question of how clean your drinking water is?
Well, I am going to ask the question, How clean is this imported ice?

It sounds like none sense but I have to ask…when you did the math, what was the disparity between having the volume of ice produced based on the amount of ice makers it would take to produce such..and what is the energy bill when added, plus the maintenance fee, parts fee etc and compare that with the cost for shipping and price for said volume of ice?Trust me certain things doesn’t make sense but When I’m into a field (such as refrigeration) There are things that you know that the lamans might not.Because again it’s about VOLUME and COST.Ive seen a normal air conditioning unit break down on a regular basis because of poor maintenance. And how long it takes to fix them…again I’m not saying there should only be one Ice factory but again.Cost and volume.

The latest clamour of the Private Sector is for a reduction of interest rates. I maintain that Jamaica's current problem with production and productivity has less to do with cost of production but much more to do with the mentality of a private sector who are more interested in being big shot higglers rather than being producers of tangible goods! That they are now importing ice conforms that notion.

It is processed to remove all the impurities that might exist. It is a factory and Jamaica does not have a second of it's kind, hence the need to import.

No I did not know that ice can be imported 😵‍💫😵‍💫. So by the time it gets here is it still frozen? Oh I guess your last explanation is that it comes as water & is then frozen when it gets here

This one is a head scratcher and utter ridiculous. Is it only in Kingston or is it island wide?
I can't figure out this one. One ice factory in the whole island and a tropical one at that!!! Utterly ridiculous.
    La lucha continua !!!

Could it be it’s made in Jamaica and placed in the company’s bag with a foreign address to get higher price. This person understands that we have a tendency for imported goods and will pay premium without thinking about it.

As stated by a few others. The ice factory suffered severe damage with the Azan's warehouse fire. Correction to some, this is not a government owned operation. There was ice on the road after the fire and therefore you would be able to buy those while stocks lasted at existing prices. For the increased demand during the season, the company would have been forced to purchase elsewhere. To move ice, one would need a refrigerated container. Not just a cold or cool one, but a frozen one that stays frozen (extra cost compared to standard container which is not cheap). To import just about anything, fire or not, there are duties and taxes. Once here and cleared, what is not on the road, is going to have to be stored, cold storage. Costs will add up. In all this, please remember, something we feel is as basic is ice, produced locally or overseas, is indeed a luxury good.

How else to fix it. Ask people to set ice for the parties

Not the first nor will it be the last, also bare in mind that Jamaica is used to exporting Ice under the International Package Ice Association (IPIA) for quite some years now. I'm assuming this recent import is solely based on the damage that Pure international Ice faced earlier this month.
