I'm glad this art has not been lost. During the pandemic we couldn't find a boxed cake mixes (weird huh) so I just got on tube and learned to bake a from scratch. Love the bygone days.
Howdy- I think I can understand why you went through the trouble to make your own syrup. I will cook in our fireplace just for the shear pleasure of doing it We also have an off grid log cabin to get away to and enjoy the solitude and cook a meal on the wood cook stove. Loved the video. Take care and God’s blessings to you
Fun watching syrup made in this way. Just one word of advice: always keep back a few gallons of sap or have water ready in case you suddenly find your pan/kettle is going dry.
I love maple syrup! I went from putting regular sugar into my coffee, to brown sugar, to maple syrup. The dark, earthy flavor goes well with morning coffee. Unfortunately, I can't make my own, so I stock up from Costco. I try to keep a few jugs on hand for when they run out for months! Love all you've done with the cabin!
Thank you! People don’t know but there was a day when all one out sugar in America came from a maple tree. If you keep cooking maple syrup it will turn into maple sugar.
I bet the cabin smelled wonderful as you were finishing off the syrup on the wood stove! Do you have any walnut trees in your area? They run at basically the same time as the maples and the process is the same to boil it down, just takes a lot more walnut sap compared with maple as the sugar content is lower. Very rich and slightly nutty flavor over maple... just make sure to skim off the foam as it is boiling down.
I love real maple syrup, too! Thanx for sharing how you make it in your beautiful fireplace. I love your dog's name; Lavender is beautiful. Do you ever use a fireplace screen?
Just wondering if all types of maple trees produce sap, and who was the first person to put a stick in it to see what's in there? ( First person that ate an oyster?😂) I do wish, when I was in school 50 some yrs ago, I would have enjoyed learning as much as what you teach.
Thank you for this video. My 7 yr old son was enthralled.

Thank you my friend! For sure. I’m the same way. And God bless you and yours!
This is a great video! Never saw this done before. I hope other homestead channels can see this too.
Thanks Susan! It’s getting out there!

Do you ever use a fireplace screen?
No, I don’t have a fireplace screen. That will come into play in a video this weekend
Way to much work for a life simple pleasure but still enjoy watching

You said not to heat that pot with nothing in it and then you put the empty pot back on the fire…
Nope, I’ve never done that. I did go back and watched it just to see what you saw.
@@logcabinlifestyle if not “on” the fire, then “near” the fire… won’t that melt it?
There was no fire until after I put liquid in the pot
You brought back memory's of my grandfathers farm where he had lots of maple trees and gathered the sap to make syrup it's a time people forgot
I agree and the reason for this channel. Much much more to come
Great looking forward to more
