  • Free solo climbing has been a huge subject of discussion, especially since big names like Alex Honnold conquered unimaginable heights without any ropes or safety equipment. Here are 5 more climbers who tragically fell while engaging in this extreme form of climbing. No fatal falling footage is featured in this video.
In no way do I advocate anyone try any of the activities displayed in the video. Always climb with safety equipment.

If you do part 3 Marc-André deserves a notable mention, that guy was insane but also a humble and beautiful human being who did some outstanding stuff for the climbing sport 🙏

But Marc-Andé did not fell, he died because of bad climate, that time he was using a rope.

What strikes me is how many of these deaths were on less-difficult routes. That's where complacency sets in.

How did free soloing ever become a thing?
With safety gear, you can still climb, feel the texture of the rock, the beautiful views, but with a much lower chance of death should you lose your grip!
What is being taken away if you happen to have safety gear with you?

I can understand them, its like driving super fast with the bike or diving with no backup e.g. They like the risk , if they make the tinyest mistake there gone, this feels different then regular activities. But im on your side, if i would climb alwys with max safety cause i dont want to die, especially if i can lower the risk by 90% just using a damn rope

As an inexperienced climber, I embraced the challenge of a free solo climb, conquering the heights without safety gear. However, triumph turned to panic as I reached the summit-elation replaced by the daunting reality that I had no plan for the descent.
Faced with the sheer drop below, panic set in. Sweaty palms clung desperately to the rock, and a paralyzing fear gripped me. The once-thrilling heights now mocked my audacity, and a panic attack rendered me motionless on the narrow ledge.

@@josh-kf2rd people who say nah probably have never done anything physical in their life where they either a) get carried away in the succession of the action and it's gratification without analysing the surroundings b) have had a daring streak that has pushed them well beyond reason within a given activity (although this relates back to the gratification need) or c) had an overwhelming need to prove something to themselves, someone else or the world at large take over their ability to reason. I haven't free soloed a cliff but I have done all 3 in very different but equally risky contexts and can see how other people get caught up in this shit. But then theres wimpy safe players who never leave the house but just can't admit they have lived a cowardly life so they bag on someone, even though look up at the video, theres people doing this shit right there and then, the daring are about.

It's actually foolish and madness, imagining you're too good to fall. And even if you were (let's just pretend) the rock isn't too good to not cause one to slip or chip off a small portion of rock.
