My sister just took in a 4 year old mini Schnauzer and he needs to be spoiled! I'm making this with blue and white seersucker and will embroider his initial (R) on one side.

    • @TheCanineStory
      @TheCanineStory  3 года назад

      Hi Sabrina! We only do things for dogs! Have a go playing around with the size of the template, you could always trim it down with some scissors. With the tutorial, you create the shape of the bow by folding so you can test it first then trim down afterwards if it seems too big. Good luck!

    • @TheCanineStory
      @TheCanineStory  3 года назад

      We are glad you found this tutorial useful! We decided to use elastic for this tutorial so you could easily add and remove the bow from the collar by slipping it on and off, without the need to permanently sew anything onto the collar. We aren't sure how you would best add a snap for this, but good luck! 😊

    How about measurements for a medium and small dog? This one is it for big dogs?

    • @TheCanineStory
      @TheCanineStory  4 месяца назад

      Yes this is size medium (cocker spaniel size). If you want to make it smaller the main pattern piece is essentially a rectangle, you can trim it down before you make it up.

  • @MissMandersss
    @MissMandersss 2 года назад +1

    Hello! If i want this smaller for my kitten, do I just halve the measurements, or does that not work?

    • @TheCanineStory

      As the pieces are basically rectangles, you can just trim down the pieces proportionally, it might take some experimentation to get the size you would like. Good luck!

    • @canelita9flies
      @canelita9flies 2 года назад +2

      It’s to make the bow stiffer . Otherwise it could go out of shape ? I got some today and giving it a go tonight!

    This tutorial is really easy to follow. Appreciate a good tutorial, so many out there that are hard to follow, too much movement, not properly filmed, etc. Thank you. And for a great cause too. Just a quick question, does one need to use fusing paper? Can we do without and just use the fabric, iron down and sew at the end? Is the purpose of the fusing paper to add a bit of stiffness? Thank you very much!

    • @TheCanineStory
      @TheCanineStory  4 года назад +1

      Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, you're correct, the fusing/interfacing is used to help the bow tie remain in shape! You could try with a piece of a thicker fabric. Good luck!

    I got the same fusing paper and it keeps melting into the ironing board when I put the shiny shin towards the fabric. And it’s making the fabric stick to the board. Any idea why it won’t work? Thanks!

    • @TheCanineStory
      @TheCanineStory  4 года назад +2

      Hi Lexie, sometimes it can depend on the type of fusing, sometimes the glue side can feel quite rough. Do a few tests with some scrap pieces to check which side has the glue on, and use an old scrap piece of cotton or sheeting to protect your iron and your ironing board! Also try turning the heat down on your iron and gradually increasing as necessary. Good luck!

    • @Darkdemonoflite
      @Darkdemonoflite 3 года назад

      shiny side to fabric...... iron the fabric no the dull side of the paper.
      in otherwords put the fabric on top and iron the fabric to the paper on the bottom

    I love this and am excited to get started! One issue, the pattern is showing to be bigger than an 8.5x11" piece of copy paper when I go to print it. Is this right? I can shrink to fit but that will alter the size of the pattern. Any suggestions? Thank you!

    • @TheCanineStory
      @TheCanineStory  4 года назад

      We are in the UK so we use an A4 sheet to print, however it is absolutely fine to shrink to fit when printing, it doesn't have to be exact at all; that's the beauty of these bow ties! But if you have a larger dog you could also measure directly onto the fabric too! I hope that helps.

    • @TheCanineStory

    • @alyssa31207
      @alyssa31207 4 года назад +3

      I don’t think you have to but if you don’t or can’t the bows will just be more flimsy. If you don’t have any fusing paper but you have fabric starch that will work you just spray it in and iron it and it should work the same way

    • @TheCanineStory
      @TheCanineStory  4 года назад +3

      You don't HAVE to use the iron on fusing, however it will really help to make the bow tie stiffer and remain in shape better! You can purchase this on Amazon and most fabric stores. If not, you could try with a thicker fabric instead, good luck!

    How big of a bow does this make?

    • @TheCanineStory
      @TheCanineStory  Год назад

      The finished bow should be approx. 5" by 3". The pattern can be tweaked pretty easily by trimming down the edges proportionally!

    What kind of cloth did you use?

    • @TheCanineStory

      We would recommend using a 100% cotton fabric for this project 😊 We hope you enjoy making it!

    • @TheCanineStory
      @TheCanineStory  Год назад

      You can find the pattern on our website as a download, if you don't have a printer you can simply measure out the pieces directly on the fabric! 10" by 6" for piece A and 6" by 2" for piece B.

    • @TheCanineStory

      You thread the collar through the elastic loop that you stitch to the back of the bow tie :)

      Hello Elaine, the link is above! Under "read the tutorial here" if you scroll down you'll find the pattern to download. If you don't have a printer: measure out 10" by 6" for piece A and 6" by 2" for piece B! Good luck

      @@TheCanineStory For some reason I don't have the "Read the tutorial here" option. Under the 3 dots it has "transcript" but that wasn't it either. That was the closest I could find. But, no worries, since you gave me the dimensions I can follow along and make it. Many thanks! Great tutorial!! Thank you for getting back with me!

      Make sure to use some fusing on your fabric so it holds it's shape!

      @@TheCanineStory The shape stays but the band isnt strong enough to hold up the bow

    • @TheCanineStory
      @TheCanineStory  8 месяцев назад

      Ok so it's likely your elastic then, make sure it's good quality and has lots of stretch. When you put it on the collar it should feel tight and shouldn't move around or flop. If all else fails sew 2 pieces of elastic on the back of each end of the bow rather than 1 piece in the centre.
      Hard to help further without seeing what you're doing but good luck!

      Raw edges are all folded inwards so hidden, but if you want to overlock the edges you can.

    How much fabric to I need to make the Dog Bow Tie?

    • @TheCanineStory
      @TheCanineStory  2 года назад

      A fat quarter should be enough for 1 bow tie! Plus you can get FQ bundles with lots of fun fabrics so you can try different colours/designs. Good luck!
