I bought this same filter just a different brand not long ago based on the recommendation of this video and just wanted to follow up in case someone gets here trying to buy it as well. 6 months after I can say. Buy it!!! If you ever have weird noises the fix is easy, the problem is in the outpout, the connection between the motor and the canister is not fit enough, just use some tape in the union and that's it.
I've just got one of these today. I filled it up and plugged it and the water was coming out of the outlet pipe. But then it just started to trickle out and now no water is coming out
Happy with this filter , great media load , terrific return flow to tank , but cant get it to run silent , tried the obvious shaking etc to rid of air , but to no avail , help ?
Hi! I have a question! When you turn it off, and then you turn back on, do you need to refill it? Because I have to! And I don't know if its something that I'm doing wrong!
Thinking of getting this for my Fluval Flex 55L tank, although i'd only be able to install it on the side of the tank. Would that affect things in any way? Thinking that I will have to be smart and cut holes in the lid to fit the pipes through if I went for it. Currently using an Oase Bioplus 100 internal filter and looking for something thats far more superior at filtering.
Hi Will another great video with good tips. The new live bearer tank is looking great, can't wait till it's finished and the fish have moved in. Thanks for sharing buddy 👍
Hi Guys, I bought this filter and did everything as you and Pondguru, but my filter stops to work after 10 minutes.I mean the water stop to circulate. I have no idea what is the problem. Do you have any idea about it? thanks
@@HobbyistFishkeeper yes, my husband told me the same. Now its working neary normaly...the water running well...but somtimes noisy because of trapped air. We will see:) thanks
The Sunsun ones sold outside China under various brands are also refurbished units alot of the time but sold as new, thats why in the UK they are so cheap to get from say All Pond Solutions, check for repairs inside they hide the repair pretty well sometimes lol TBH just pay that little extra for a well known reliable brand and model (Sunsuns leak like crazy).
Could anyone please tell me the depth of the canister outside the aquarium (or wall clearance)? All details online say the filter is 190mm deep, but not sure if this is inlet/outlet to rear of canister or not. TIA
could you replace the supplied pipework with flexible hose? Ie are the connecters the same as on the larger APS canisters or is the original pipework actually threaded?
No its connected to the threaded attachment mate, I suppose you could flexi pipe to the current pipe but I thing it would defeat the object. Aps do small canisters too?
Cheers for that. I'm liking the slimness of this one and it would go nicely at the back of my Fireplace community but with the glass cover I have I cant just pop the pipes over. Well it would probably work if I hadn't added that cut to size & toughened glass section lol (the black section at the front is the main lid) sharetheexperience.co.uk/Aquarium/firplace_top.jpg
Looking at getting this just to help polish my water. I have a 300l tank running a aps EFX. I have a few bottom dwellers and mollies that are alway kicking up crap. Do you think this will help with those floating particles?. Also what are the measurements of the canister part. Thanks for any information.
Set the intake close to the surface it could help, fill 2 chambers with coarse pads and 2 with fine pads. You could also get a surface skimmer. The aps skim 2 is a powerful little skimmer. I've done a video on that too.
Hi can this pump only be used with a tank with no lid? Guessing the intake and outtake would impeded the tank lid closing. or? Thanks for any info and thanks for sharing your video and tips
I currently have it on a tank with sliding glass lid. All depends on the old cut outs? If you have a plastic lid you could always just drill out 2 hole to put the intake and outtake into? Its adjustable on the pipes and hang on hooks. Hope this helps?
Hi will or anybody. Mine is vibrating. It sounds like one of those metres that is detecting radiation. The water is super super crystal clear. I’m just wondering if it was damaged as it took a minute to prime so ran dry for a bit. I left all the floss filters in and a bit of ceramic lava media. So disappointed as it would have been such a bargain.
APS sent me a new shaft. It still is a bit rattling but it’s in an extension not a bedroom so can be tolerated. It filters well, at least it’s working.
I am filming a video this week on biohome ultimate / aquamanta / seachem matrix / fluval bio rings. I highly recommend the biohome though over the rest
Less than 20 and works great, but its a pain to clean etc as you have to take the whole thing out etc so i switched to a Tidal. I would also get it straight from there site, they make it really awkward to return stuff if you order from Amazon there returns are a nightmare.
Hello just would like to know yr opinion on on this HOB since you made video on 2019, thinking in buying one, thank you for the very nice video that you made, I'm subscribed to yr channel.
It's possible that you won't see this but I'm planning on buying the filter today or tomorrow, any updates on this filter? recommend it or not soo good on the long run?
Hello! I was wondering if is it advisable to turn off the filter at night? Won’t the motor get heated up if it’s up and Running all the time? Also, for this particular model HBL 803, does self priming is advisable or should I manually do it? When it’s turned off and on
Had mine bout 2 months really poor tbh the output is so weak I got it on a 4 foot tank unless unless ya got a tiny tank it's terrible 500 litres per hr might say that TRUST ME ITS CRAP I cleaned it out yesterday I've just noticed the flow so weak ghe 5 trays ya get ok yeah but don't matter coz the motor is rubbish no umff I it its ok for a few ne9ns etc anything else DONT BUY IT alot of my friends have bought products of the all pond solutions they all zay there canister 2000 is poo 💩 to stay well.clear

Why not just modify the filtration that flex has

@@HobbyistFishkeeper Haha good luck with that 😁
Do you think you could connect the output of one of these to the input of a second?
Perhaps with a hose? Are the fittings barbed/tapered?

Sound like you have air trapped inside that will stop water flow?
@@HobbyistFishkeeper yes, my husband told me the same. Now its working neary normaly...the water running well...but somtimes noisy because of trapped air. We will see:) thanks
You can give the canister a little squeeze to move the air around and it should get sucked into the water flow.

Wonder if this will do on my temporary reef tank
How big is the tank?
It’s only 90ltrs

@@HobbyistFishkeeper Thanks for your reply. Do you know the minimum space you need to leave behind your tank for the actual "filter box"?
About 6 inches

that said theyre cheap as chips so I may just order one and see what I can hack up . Might literally involve the use of a hacksaw lol
I thought was going to be smaller. Its massive
Great unboxing and review!
Cheers, went on a bit lol. Thanks for watching.
How much space does it take above the edge of aqua?
It's adjustable
I have 300 liters of tank will this work properly in it
No, it nowhere near big enough for a 300ltr tank
What size gap do i need behind the tank for this filter to fit
Just under 4 inches Pete.
thanks mate@@HobbyistFishkeeper

I will unscrew the pump housing and check the impeller. Thanks.
So the ceramic shaft was snapped and now it won’t even work at all. Sending back. I wish I bought that aqua clear.
They do lots of spares? Just email them and ask for a new one if its new?

Is Aquamanta BioDynamic bio filter good and how does it compare with Seachem matrix?
I am filming a video this week on biohome ultimate / aquamanta / seachem matrix / fluval bio rings. I highly recommend the biohome though over the rest
Very helpful video, thank you. How's the filter running after all this time? Is it loud?
Do i need to buy extra filter sponges etc to get this to work properly? Our tank is about the same size as yours
I would get a coarse and medium too as it only comes with a fine filter floss.
