1. We are tossed and driven on the restless sea of time; somber skies and howling tempests oft succeed a bright sunshine; in that land of perfect day, when the mists are rolled away, we will understand it better by and by. Refrain: By and by, when the morning comes, when the saints of God are gathered home, we'll tell the story how we've overcome, for we'll understand it better by and by. 2. We are often destitute of the things that life demands, want of food and want of shelter, thirsty hills and barren lands; we are trusting in the Lord, and according to God's word, we will understand it better by and by. (Refrain) 3. Trials dark on every hand, and we cannot understand all the ways of God would lead us to that blessed promised land; but he guides us with his eye, and we'll follow till we die, for we'll understand it better by and by. (Refrain) 4. Temptations, hidden snares often take us unawares, and our hearts are made to bleed for a thoughtless word or deed; and we wonder why the test when we try to do our best, but we'll understand it better by and by. (Refrain)
Yes Lord!!!!! That's my song I live by because when I was a child singing this song alone with the other saints who are gone on to Glory and those that are of age that are still Hallelujah on the battlefield for Jesus!!!! Now, it's our generation that's during it just as this beautiful breathtaking Spirit felt, testimony is sung . Amen!!! my song I live by because when I was a child singing this song alone with the other saints who are gone on to Glory and those that are of age that are still Hallelujah on the battlefield for Jesus!!!! Now, it's our generation that's during it just as this beautiful breathtaking Spirit felt, testimony is sung . Amen!! !
Thanks, Hasan Green for this version of this old school gospel hymn. I grew up in a Southern Backwoods Country Church (Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Abbeville, AL). I searched RUclips for the version that I grew up with. We sang this every 1st and 3rd Sunday. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Now, please visit my church in Virginia Beach, VA and sing for us. Piney Grove Baptist Church, 2804 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, VA. Pastor DL Williams. We would love for you to come and bless us with some good ole gospel music!!!!
I'm no longer a Christian in the sense of what Christianity means the Western world. I have discovered a spiritual path that I follow which includes African traditions. For whatever reason, I have lately been getting these old hyms and church songs that I loved so much as a young Christian woman in my mind and I am thankful to find them here. This song came to me this morning so I looked for it. I heard a couple of renditions but could not find a version of how I remember it sung, until I clicked on this young man. He sings so beautifully and with so much soul and feeling. Thank you for this. Sometimes you need to reflect back and you have helped me do that bringing joy to my heart. I will definitely check out more of your music.
I am from a Midwest farm family and I listened to your version this morning before church and you are amazing. How talented you are both singing and playing the piano. What an amazing young man! Keep going with the talent God gave you!
This song is timeless. We just lost our dear aunt out of the blue last Monday evening. She went so quickly we still haven't caught our breath. We miss her but know that we'll understand it better by and by.😢
Boi!.... it's 2020 you betta sang......this is my first time seeing this video. It's 2 o'clock in the morning and you got me having church at work. Yo grandmama proud!!!🤗🤗🤗🤗
Thank you for this song, Bro. Hassan! I lost my mom in October 2020, and it has been a very rough journey, living without her. These hymns of Zion have been taking me through. God bless you, sir!
Thank you for singing this song. I remember my childhood church singing this song often and during and after my miscarriage 2 years especially when I'd found out that my baby stopped growing when i got home cried went to bed and and woke up the next morning the first thing God put on my heart as i was crying and praying at the same time was this song. I still sing it on days that are hard for me when i think about the baby i feel should be here even now i somewhat understand why now. But sometimes it doesn't make me feel any better
This song in my spirit for today 03/23/2022 and several days before generating Comfort and Faith to go on in the " Why's" of life. The young man sang it so expressively and the bedroom background implicated "Rest" as you go through. "The Holy Spirit is a Great Comforter" and uses All kinds of illustrations to show you what you need as you go thru many life challenges 😊❤️🙏, Glory to God.
Have you been in the recording studio yet... I'm saving all your RUclips video's. I'd love to own a CD of yours. I'd love to see you in concert. even if you only sing a few selections. Bless GOD! For you energy and your musicality.
I grew up United Methodist as well. Our services were drier than my granny’s COGIC praise breaks but I learned to appreciate the hymns and songs that carried us over
We will understand it better by and by. That a true message. Rev. 3;21 will become our testimony. Thank you for this upload. This is one of mine as well.
We will understand it better by and by!!!! Hallelujah By and By when the morning come... I don't what is going on but you ougta to praise God were you at. I literally listen to this every day. This and “I See Greater” are my favorites. Brings me so much peace. Thank you for spreading joy and bringing people like me closer to Christ. Bless you!
Father I pray you deliver this young man from the opinions of man and give him the grace to run the race that has been set before him. To the folks out there with a spirit of condemnation I say this as Jesus said, HE HERE WITHOUT SIN, CAST THE FIRST STONE 👀. I’ve learned that when folks look for fault in others. Rarely when they’re in the mirror dressing up their flesh do they start their with their own faults. Look in the mirror and if you see perfection then cast a stone. Young man, the word is there cause a tree is known by its fruits. The anointing is there cause I’ve tried the spirit by the spirit to see if it be of God. As long as we are in the flesh we will all forever struggle with sin. Ask your Heavenly Father as I have through his son Jesus to help you to become the man as he has called you to be. You are a man created by God as we all are. To the woman or women that want to condemn this young man I say this. God did not give you authority over the man so be silent as the apostle Paul said. SELAH! 1 Timothy 2:12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. Pray for yourself that you do not fall into temptation and after you’ve brought your flesh under the subjection of the word remain silent and keep praying the same for others that they overcome as you have assuming that you already have overcome your flesh...fornication, adultery, lying, backbiting, envy, and every other abomination. I’m praying for the woman that cast the stone that she be delivered and her heart be transformed by the renewing of her mind... watch this, MINES FIRST 🙂. Follow after the example that Christ has left us to follow. Continue ministering under the anointing and bless others cause I have truly been blessed in song by you. But remember this too youngster, and I’m sure you already know. Let not your good be evil spoken of. We are in this struggle together so let’s encourage one another and run on and see what the end is going to be lol. Is that a song lol. If so can you minister that one of your lead to. Love you lil bro with God’s unconditional love which is every lasting. God speed!!!
The southern Baptist hymnal has cheated me, LoL. You sang the first two verses that I never heard! We only had 3 and 4. What a blessing you are! Praise the Lord!
This song is sung at many of the funerals of my family members...it's a family favorite...the writer, Charles A. Tindley is from Berlin, MD where my family is from...so I guess there is a connection. He was United Methodist and historically so is my family...St. Paul United Methodist Church, Berlin, MD
You are truly a gift from God. I listen to you when I'm feeling discouraged and you with the help of God make me smile and push through the day. May God continue to use you. Love you my brother

Hello Mr Green. I have never posted on ANY video I have ever watched on RUclips but I had to break my unwritten rule for you. I just want you to know that I have prayed to God for you. It is my fervent prayer that God's choicest blessings be yours. Our Heavenly Father has surely used you to bless me this past week. You have a new subscriber.
Yes, keep up the good and godly work Minister of Music Hasan Green...I enjoyed your version of "We'll understand it better by and by". After my mother suspiciously and mysteriously transitioned from her body at Brigham & Women Hospital in Boston on April 13, 2015, we sung this song at the Dorchester, MA and Beech Island, SC services. It was one of her favorite songs especially at funerals and we also sang it in 2012 at both of my father's services in Boston and Augusta, GA, God Bless !
Hey thanks for uploading this... been having a very difficult time finding a soulful/humble sounding rendition of this great hymn, similar to the arrangment of the hymn at the beginning of Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace... Lord bless
