It is safe for people with epilepsy to drive a motor vehicle as along as their seizures are under good control (i.e.: seizure free). People who have unpredictable and/or uncontrolled convulsive seizures should not drive a motor vehicle as it would not be safe.

@@narayanahealth Starting in 1949 in the United States, the state of Wisconsin was the first state where people with epilepsy could obtain a driver's license. The individual had to prove that they were seizure free for a specified period of time. It was basically considered to be a victory for those affected by epilepsy at the time since it meant that at least some people with the condition could drive their own motor vehicle as long as they were seizure free. In time the rest of the states followed. As experience with such people driving increased it was found that in a great many cases that they were able to drive safely. This was a major step in helping to reduce the stigma of epilepsy. Since that time, the situation for those people affected by epilepsy has continued to improve. There is much less negativity towards people with epilepsy.
I'm hoping that in time that India changes their policy towards people with epilepsy when it comes to driving a motor vehicle. I seriously think that people with epilepsy in India should be allowed to drive a motor vehicle provided that they are seizure free. India can adopt a similar policy to what is used in the United States and the European Union when it comes to driving with epilepsy. There is a waiting period to make sure that the affected individual is seizure free. Then they'll need to obtain clearance from a physician stating that it is safe for the individual to operate a motor vehicle. Then they can apply for a driver's license. The individual's driver's license would need to state that the individual has epilepsy, but it is safe for them to drive because their seizures are under control where they are seizure free.
I think if India does this, it will be a major victory for many of those people living in India who have epilepsy.
