Nice audio system upgrade! For anybody on a budget trying to make an after market head unit work with the Mach 460... Here's what you need... Metra 70-5510 Factory Amplifier Integration Harness for Select 1986-2000 Ford Vehicles
Hey man, thanks for making this video. I just wanna add to your explanation about the reason these systems are impossible to work on. The Mach 460 amplifier setup uses several different HP and LP filters that essentially split up the audio between multiple different speakers to achieve a more dedicated range on specific speakers. This means that using the factory wiring and amplifiers you will most likely never have a serviceable system. That was great for the early 2000s, but not anymore. Full replacement is the only option for anyone less than an experienced professional in mach 460 systems. The Mach 1000 was a little easier to work on from what I understand. Anyways, great video, I’m hopefully gonna be replacing all of mine soon
Mach 460 uses speaker level inputs to the amplifier rather than line level which almost every other system uses. There are ways to match different head units to it but it takes some splicing off of the harness to make it sound right.
Excellent upgrade! Mine had an aftermarket head unit but it sounded like garbage. Back then the 360 system was nice but comparted to today's modern systems its quick bad
Yea thats exactly why I decided to get rid of the mach 360 system. There's no other way around it but re wiring a new amo and new speakers but it was well worth it
@@loscar5oh Definitely worth it. I plan on doing the same with the foxbody also because the system that is in it now does not work so might as well start from scratch and redo the entire thing
I'm gonna do this too on my 96 cobra with mach system. I was wondering, you think using to mach speakér box in the rear for the new speakers would have given you more bass sound? And how about replacing the tweeters on the door and hook them to the head unit, you think it would make the highs better or are 6x8s sufficient? And also how did you remove the rear box?
To remove the box there are a few nuts to remove from the inside that hold the box to the frame. Perhaps it could give you more bass but im not sure. I think it has a lot to do with how you tweak the audio adjustment on both the head unit and amp. In my opinion you don't need tweeters as the speakers you can install are coaxials so they have built in tweeters
@treyharvey6449 something doesn't seem right. I'd double check all your wiring but also look into recharging your battery. It may be time to replace it as well
Cobra is looking 🔥as always. Upgrading the stereo system is definitely a nice feature for those longer drives👌🏻
Thanks Mike 🙌🏻 its absolutely enjoyable!

@@vicmoya75 does that harness help retain the oem mach 460 sound with an aftermarket radio?
Yes it does, I have a kenwood unit and it sounds pretty good
@@vicmoya75 I may just do that with my dsg cobra
@@loscar5oh Yea man, it’s very inexpensive

One of the very first mods to my Cobra was to gut the crappy OEM audio and replace it with quality audio powered by a 5 channel amp.

Beautiful car brotha. My first car was a torch red 2004 v6 40th anniversary and the 10th Cobra is the dream.
Hey, You posted it! Glad you’re enjoying it buddy!
Thank you bro 🙌🏻

That speaker box that you took out is where a lot of your bass came from.
Yea I think I've heard that before too. Honestly all I had to do was raise up the bass know on the Amp itself and it sounds perfect now
I need that sonic blue 🤤 still searching for one in Texas.
What did you do for connectors the head unit?
Nice video! What did you do with the stock harness after you unplugged the rear stock speaker box?
@@carlosmarques6834 just left it off
Did you add tweeters? Did you do anything with the speakers on the top of the door panels?
No just the 4 6x8 speakers. They are coaxial so they have a built in tweeter
@loscar5oh so did you leave the tweeters disconnected and left them on just for show ??
That whole process was made clean. If you don’t mind me asking, where did you get the wiring for all of the components?
@@muchothick thanks! I bought a kit from Amazon that included all necessary wiring and the fuse
@@loscar5oh what kind of wire gauge did you end up using. I’m trying to do this on my 97 Mustang and I am looking for an upgrade like yours
If you’re just doing a 4 channel amp that’s less than maybe 800w, you’ll want 8g for power and ground, and then 14-16g for your speaker wires.
