  • It could be your TV antenna. ATSC 3.0 NextGen Launch - When a TV Channel Rescan does not work to bring back lost TV Channels. What do you do when a re-scan does not bring back lost TV channels after a NextGen TV launch in your market? It could be that your TV antenna setup is not picking up the RF channels that stations have moved to. It is very importatn to do you research before you rush to buy a new relevision antenna. Check websites such as:
    www.rabbitears...
    Press ‘Get Location’ button
    Adjust the ‘Minimum Search Distance’ (if desired)
    Press ‘Go’
    On your report:
    Click ‘Current Search Map’ to view TV broadcast tower map
    View the list of TV stations available in your area
    www.antennaweb...
    Enter your zip code
    check ‘Antenna will be installed 30' or more above ground level.’
    Click ‘go’, scroll down to view channel list and broadcast tower map

    Good report, thanks. In the San Francisco Bay Area the opposite situation is now true.
    When some stations started transmitting ATSC 3 I am now able to reliably receive some stations’ ATSC 1 virtual channels on a different RF channel because of “channel sharing” that I understand is a station allowing another station’s RF channel into their “lighthouse“. With the same UHF antenna I can now get ATSC 1 virtual Fox 2, virtual CW 44, and virtual independent KRON 4, all on different ATSC 1 RF UHF channels. Independent ATSC 1 KRON 4 may or may not still be transmitting on RF 7 but now I can get it on ATSC 1 RF UHF 35. Before I couldn’t get ATSC 1 KRON 4 with my biggest VHF antenna from their RF VHF 7.

      It’s good to hear that in some cases ATSC 3 launches can also have a positive effect on ATSC 1 channels! Thank you for sharing your experience about this issue.

    I live in San Diego. I watch FOX and KUSI all day. I have no problem with the reception until they install the ATSC 3.0 transmitter. And, now I got pixelated.

    What I don't understand is why there is DRM encryption on ATSC 3.0? OTA TV should stay free!

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  7 месяцев назад +1

      I agree fully. My understanding is content providers are demanding broadcasters impose DRM encryption in order to protect their content from piracy. My hope is however that once the rollout of NextGen TV is fully rolled out that DRM will simply be something that operates in the background of all tuners without issue and that this will not lead to pay tiers of OTA TV.

    • @Nicholas_Chris
      @Nicholas_Chris 7 месяцев назад

      The current ATSC 3.0 STBs must be connected to internet in order to watch the DRM encrypted channel and you have to wait a few seconds untill you get picture and sound. But for people who live in the countryside or livea in the city but don't have internet how are they able to watch the channels? Like you said they will implement a solution.
      For pirates there are no obstacles, they will always find solutions to break the DRM encryption, so it is a waste of time and money, plus the TV content and music is getting worse, too much political correctness and censorship. The old movies and TV shows are worth watching.
      I personally recommend turkish TV series or dizi. There are turkish TV series on RUclips with english subtitles, some of them also have english audio, they are familly oriented.
      As for music I prefer music from 1950 untill 2000's.

      Free to watch, not free to record them.

      Then you need to let your federal officials know this. At last check, my taxes pay partially fund the FCC. They should be working for us. But unless we tell them what we want, they may cave to capital business interests! Continue to speak up! If it looks like a snake, it's probably a snake. ATSC 3.0 looks like PAY TV to me! I don' t believe their propaganda about provider interests. Who the hell records and sells current ATSC 1.0 content?? No one. It has very limited value. They are blowing a smokescreen as they position to take away free TV!
      IF DRM is really about the content, then fine, encrypt the content that needs to be protected, not the WHOLE friggen channel!! That's why I say it's a smokescreen.

    I'm trying to decide whether to get the Home Run Box or the Tablo Box. It seems they both do the same except one uses the Internet.

    • @RickPaquin
      @RickPaquin 7 месяцев назад +1

      Here's my 2 cents. I've had the HDHR for over a year now. I use it primarily with Emby and Channels DVR. I had the Tablo earlier model and had reception issues. Also, I didn't like the UI AT ALL! It's my understanding that the NEW Tablo is much better than what I had originally experienced. If you don't plan to set up recording software on your PC or NAS, the Tablo seems like a good option today.
      That said, I DO love my HDHR because both (I have 2) have a very sensitive tuner. (don't use any antenna preamps) It doesn't take much of an antenna for it to pick up weak channels and preamps will easily overload it. However, it's UI also leaves a lot to be desired and is pretty basic in terms of features. But it's a great performer when coupled with other recording software. Yep, it's tough decision.

      Also the HDHR will receive ATSC 3.0 (but won't decode DRM yet), whereas the Tablo won't.

      The rollout is interesting. We get (4) ATSC 3.0 stations being shared on one low power (15KW) TV channel, RF14. 3 just recently went DRM, but they are were not running even 1080i. A relative has a ATSC 3.0 TV and picked them up (just before DRM) from a distance of 30mi, but the stations's 15KW ATSC 1.0 RF 17 is actually a bit more stable. That same channel's higher power (1000KW) RF19 ATSC 1.0 running 1080 provides the best reception. All 3 radiate from the same tower, but at different heights.
      The benefit of ATSC 3.0 won't really be realized until it's being used by their higher power transmitters and top mounted antennas. At least 3 RF channels recently went dark about at the same time. These were struggling low power 15KW stations. I suspect they might have been purchased by the larger stations for this ATSC 3.0 rollout, but that's just a guess.
      I fear during this transition that ATSC 1.0 channels will move to these low power RF stations. That will kill reception for rural areas.
      IF you ask me, ATSC 3.0 is all about future "pay TV" which I predict will fail because people are getting their content more from streaming outlets these days.

      I get my OTA channels from Chicago, and was getting CBS on 2.1 but after yesterday 2/5/24 I got a no signal, rescanned my TV and now 2.1 is gone and I have no CBS at all. Any suggestions how I can find it and WGN 9 is gone to. What can I do?

      @NorthcoasterHobby  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@larrytheableguy3441 As a result of the NextGen TV launch, CBS and WGN’s ATSC 1.0 signals are now carried on RF channel 19. Sounds like you weren’t picking up that channel to begin with. You will have to either move your antenna (different spot, closer to a window, or use an outdoor antenna) receive RF channel 19.
      To see where the RF 19 broadcast tower is situated relative to your location, try this website to give you an idea of which direction to point the antenna:
      www.antennaweb.org/
      Enter your zip code.
      Click ‘antenna will be installed 30 feet above ground’- this will give you a better listing of available channels.
      Press ‘go’.
      There will be a list of channels as well as a map showing the towers relative to your location.
