The title track "Born Again" has become my favorite Sabbath song. Iommi's atmospheric, emotive guitar playing along with the awesome lyrics, "The distant shadows of forgotten champions/Those who live in me still/And will rise when we challenge and kill, " and Gillan's vocals that are rivaled only by Purple's "Child in Time," make this a killer song. Also, I was twelve when I first heard "Zero the Hero." My dad and I were stacking wood from the lawn on the farm into the garage. It was dark, cold, and the wind was howling. 8:30 Gillan saying sabbath's music was completely incompatible with anything he'd ever done... WHAT? Black Sabbath and deep Purple incompatible? For me it was a perfect fit, just like Dio in Rainbow or Coverdale in Purple. It's the same family tree
Well looking on the outside as fans we can disagree with him but from the inside? He obviously doesnt seem to think very highly of his time in the band and he even went so far as to say he was the bands worse singer.
@@toma.4808 Funny thing is, I'd probably call Gillan a more technically capable singer than Ozzy. He seems to feel he was their "worst" singer only because he felt there were clashing aesthetic differences between the rest of Sabbath and himself. I never got that impression, myself.
Yeah they do share more similarities than anything, I guess he was looking at the conceptual side of it and the overall mood Sabbath is definitely darker of the two
I bought Born Again when it came out in1983 and it’s still my favorite album of all time from anybody. I don’t think more than 6 months passes before I listen to at least part of that album still today 40 years later.
Of all the legendary stories about this time period the one Mick Wall mentioned in his Sabbath book the one I laughed the hardest at was that a unidentified Sabbath member when asked about the album cover said "It was Aimee Osbourne's baby picture." When Sharon heard that one you knew it had to be good
All the Sabbath fans I knew back in the day loved this album and this line up, it was a sold out tour for a reason. I didn't get to see the tour would've loved to. My brother had a tour shirt for this tour.
I bought this in 83, I was 15. It scared the hell out of me and my friends however, it grew! Now, one of my favorite Sabbath LP's. I think this LP showed off Ian Gillian that he never had the chance with Deep Purple. Ian Gillian is the best screamer I have ever heard In my life time!
This album and Concert honestly scared the shit out of me. It's so dark and so heavy. I feel Gillian brought Sabbath to a level they hadn't been at since the song Black Sabbath. All The haters of this Album is proof of what a Masterpiece it is. Just like all the haters of Sabbath especially the press. Sabbath has made music History for more than 5 decades every version adding color to the Musical painting. I cannot think of anything that Sabbath has done that I dislike. This is the scariest Album I've ever heard. Mission accomplished. Sabbath forever 👍
This was my fourth or fifth rock concert (particularly memorable because I bought the first of many bad bags of mushrooms in my early concert career) with Quiet Riot opening, and it still stands as the loudest show I've ever seen.
I hated when mainstream journalists would do those uncomfortable no nothing interviews with bands they don't know. That one where the woman says "Tony Iommi you were with the original band why don't you introduce everyone else" as Geezer sits there uncomfortably like "Hey bitch, I've been in the band since the beginning too."
You have to understand 1983 to understand what this was, this was mind blowing never before heard music at that time, much like diary of a madman. this was into territory never before seen. to look back and judge from today is foolishness. unless you lived it STFU.
Right on was saying the same thing 1983.... This was groundbreaking territory for new metal age Alice Cooper , Black Sabbath , Judas Priest ....competing against Metallica , Iron Maiden , Motley Crue , Scorpions etc...!!!
I don't remember much of 1983 because I was just four. When I got in high school I looked at 1983 as a great year for metal and I didn't even discover Born Again until after high school. I have it on CD now I want to get it on cassette and vinyl.
Absolutely badass record. I got it when it was released and immediately fell in love with it. This will forever be one of the most unique albums Sabbath or Gillan ever did.
I've always liked this Lp, it brings back so many memories of a Dear friend. It sounded so different from things being released at that time, thats why I liked it when it was released. Music is an Emotional time Machine, ✌
I always loved this album. It was great when I was a kid. I don't understand all this downputting or what is the word, it is not a bad album at all. Maybe not a genuine Black Sabbath thing but not as bad as people make it to be. For me as a kid it was good, and I still think it's better than what came after that. I liked the next few albums but that was it. I still admire Iommi for all he's done and that's it. If you don't have anything good to say then don't say it. Like what you like and don't like what you don't for f...'s sake.
I'll take Born Again over Headless Cross, Forbidden, Cross Purposes and 13. I just heard Ian Gillian sing the classic song Black Sabbath live on stage, it was a live recording from the 83 BA Tour, his only tour and now I'm more excited over this album than ever.
Ian you were not the worst singer Sabbath ever had, Ozzy was the worst (singer) but by far the best front man! I love this album and think Ian fit in great with Sabbath, Ozzy and Ronnie will always be the best of course!
For years I've been praying for a remix of this album, amazing songs but its like listening to it wearing earplugs or something. Those songs deserve better.

Saw Sabbath with Dio and then I saw them for this album. Everyone was looking forward to this incarnation, I thought it was a great combination. Keep it Warm is still one of my favorite Sabbath songs from this album. They were great live, Bev Bevan on drums. I almost forgot about that. Bill Ward was not on drums. Great show!
Thanks for the posting of this Rock-Doc (5-years ago)! The key to enjoying this "ALBUM" from 1983, is to TURN IT - THE F4CK - UP! All the way... Bone Rattlingly, Window Shatteringly, "Someone PLEASE let me out of this Room", LOUD. It is not subtle. There is nuance, but Headphones are not the intended delivery mechanism. If you can't feel the air moving the bass overtones through your body, you are missing the point of the exercise. "Good Life is Contradiction...", "...'cause there was Nooo Te-quila-aaah!", The very best use of Ian Gillian's voice since "Superstar". "Well, - Bless - My - Sooo-oh-oh-OH, Yeah, HO!" Tremendous.
Heavy Metal Music was hugely popular in 1983 Priest, Maiden Accept, Saxon and Motorhead were all hitting the big time plus Dio and Ozzy were both having successful solo careers so Sabbath needed another vocalist to keep the fire burning
Born Again is one of my favorite albums from anyone. I also believe understanding the context under which the album/lineup happened, the recording process, the challenges it faced even existing, makes it an even greater listening experience.
I actually love the album, and the album cover too. The title of Born Again, along with the baby devil( sign of the Antichrist), Along with the bold contrasting colors. Love it. Top to bottom
Amazing album. The vocals. The heavy riffs are just out of this World. To me, this is the last true Sabbath album that completed setting the stage for the adulthood of true heavy metal
I never understood why people didn't like this, all my friends and I love this record.

Well looking on the outside as fans we can disagree with him but from the inside? He obviously doesnt seem to think very highly of his time in the band and he even went so far as to say he was the bands worse singer.
@@toma.4808 Being a musician myself I can tell you that most musicians are the first to self doubt and loathe /deprecate .
One of the best Sabbath albums.
Oh man this album is so dark. Ian fitted like a glove. Shame they didn't make more albums with him.
All
The haters of this Album is proof of what a Masterpiece it is.
This album rocks to this day
Their best and heaviest album!!!
I don't understand all the bitching about it being badly produced!?? It sounds AMAZING!!
would agree on heaviest (or top three of their heaviest), but not their best . definitely not their worst though either.
Always loved that album.
That album was badass ! I freaking love that album. I wish Ian would have did more with Sabbath.
Absolutely a Great Album! Bought it when it came out and after all these years I still listen to it alot. 🤘🤘🤘
I love this album! One of my favourites!
Loved the album and one my favorite concerts.
Absolutely badass record. I got it when it was released and immediately fell in love with it. This will forever be one of the most unique albums Sabbath or Gillan ever did.
@Icefyre, THANK YOU for putting this together. Excellent.
I made this doc, 38:18 My Edtrader credit is still on the video. Showing they stole this documentary from me. It's still on my old RUclips channel.
I've always liked this Lp, it brings back so many memories of a Dear friend. It sounded so different from things being released at that time, thats why I liked it when it was released. Music is an Emotional time Machine, ✌
The best Sabbath album ever!!!!!!!!
Hahahaha no
Love love love this album despite the sound quality. The backstory is amazing. Great video about a classic album.
I have always loved this album...
Love this album! Absolutely! And I mean no remix needed! It’s perfect as it is: weird, heavy and dark
Awesome album
One of their best! Hopefully it does a remix! Trashed, Disturbing the Priest.....enough said.
A milestone, underrated classic.a monolith.best Sabbath album.a Testament.i live exactly as it sounds.the mix is not Bad as everybody complain.get the 2cd Deluxe Edition.one of the best gillan vocal Performance of His carere
zero hero is possibly my fav sabbath song and thats saying a lot considering the iconic songs in the sabbath catologe
Great show!
An absolute masterpiece! My favorite Sabbath Album. My favorite album, period.
I loved this record and actually saw this tour in Philly at the Spectrum w/opener Quiet Riot !! #riprjd #ripkevindubrow#riprandyrhoads
Very much one of my favorite albums
I made this doc, 38:18 My Edtrader credit is still on the video. Showing they stole this documentary from me. It's still on my old RUclips channel.
Heavy Metal Music was hugely popular in 1983 Priest, Maiden Accept, Saxon and Motorhead were all hitting the big time plus Dio and Ozzy were both having successful solo careers so Sabbath needed another vocalist to keep the fire burning
The best Black Sabbath's album!
Calm down. ;-)
Incorrect
Good record. Ian's screams and laughter sounds much more evil than Ozzy and Dio.
A fantastic album with one of the greatest singers ,performers ever. Live on stage Ian sounds great with Sabbath too
Born Again is one of my favorite albums from anyone.
Born Again is an incredible album. Gillian was perfect!
I grew up on Dad's Deep Purple collection. This was my first Sab album at 13, and a gateway to a life as a Sab fan.
Amazing album. The vocals. The heavy riffs are just out of this World. To me, this is the last true Sabbath album that completed setting the stage for the adulthood of true heavy metal
classic album. just bought it on DIGI, maybe i have it all formats now. so they filmed two videos the same day? brilliant and totally underated.
Best Sabbath Album! Period!
Thank you to my lovely wife- for re-introducing this classic into my play list, after I merely mentioned it one day.
