  • Here's a complete broadcast of Tomorrow with Tom Snyder on WMAQ Channel 5, the last of a repeat week; this is about the "Big Four" monsters of old movies (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man and King Kong), originally aired early Friday, November 7th 1975. (despite Tom's claim that this episode was "done just a little bit over 4 months ago", apparently)
His guests are professor Leonard Wolf of San Francisco State University and author of "The Annotated Dracula," actor Peter Cushing ("sitting on a cushion" and about to attend a Famous Monsters' Convention) and science fiction writer and author Forrest J. Ackerman (wearing a Dracula cape worn by Bela Lugosi).

Station ID / promo for NewsCenter5 with Jane Pauley
Tom indicates this to be the last "repeat edition" after a vacation, and previewing what will be on next week ("the business of sex in America"), before opening with scary monster motifs and movie posters before our host describes the setup for this edition (and a person wearing a scary mask lurks behind him).

I watched this live from my hotel room the night before the Famous Monster Convention. I first met Cushing in the the hotel elevator when he was on his way to the NBC studio for the show.

Thanks - really wonderful to see this again. Mr Cushing indeed had just finished his filming on Star Wars in late April, but the world was still pre-SW at that point.

The irony is Cushing peaked in popularity one year later with Star Wars. Known as the only character who could boss Vader around-----Vader didn't even trust the emperor as much as Cushing's character

This would be just after, or just before Cushing shot Star Wars. It's interesting to see him across the pond in his later years. He was always very homesick when he moved to L.A in 1939-40. Check out his great performance with Laurel and Hardy in 'Chump at Oxford'. A wonderful malevolent turn. Prior to his horror career.

What the so called expert on Dracula didn't say was that in Romania Vlad is considered a national hero because he fought off the Ottoman/Turks to keep that part of Europe from falling under Muslim control. While he was ruthless and did Impale lots of folks, most of the horrible stories come from the Turks who without question embellished much of their stories.
