Gilmour Pro Commercial 3/4” hose: amzn.to/2PhfduI (this is for 75’ but a 50’ hose is recommended)
Draining your RV Waste Tanks just got a whole lot easier. As RVers, dumping your waste tanks is probably everyone’s least favorable job, and when you’re not at a campsite with a sewer connection (as we have been lately) things can get a bit more complicated. Hence we had to come up with a creative solution, without having to move our RV. We decided to try the Flojet Portable Waste Pump/Macerator and Hose and were impressed with the results - problem solved in under 5 minutes.
The Flojet 18555 Portable RV Waste Pump / Macerator comes in a handy, hard carrying case it to keep the unit safely and compactly stored when not in use. It runs on 12 Volt DC, and cleanly handles both black and grey water from holding tanks with a self priming, powerful macerator pump. This is a great solution for emptying holding tanks on recreational vehicles without the need to use a BlueBoy, or break camp to visit a dump station.
Features:
* Run dry protection up to 30 seconds
* Pump housing connects onto the standard three inch waste outlet
* Six foot power leads with plug that may be permanently attached to the vehicle or attach battery clips for complete portability
* Discharge port is a standard garden hose connector and the macerator section grinds waste down to a particle size of 1/8" maximum
* Pump longer distances and empty your holding tanks into a portable tank, toilet, sewer clean-out port or septic tank
* The pump section is self-priming, permitting the unit to be mounted above the tank in a convenient location
* Empties most recirculating toilets in less than 2 minutes; empties a typical 30-gallon holding tank in less than 3 minutes
Specifications
* Impeller: Jabsco Nitrile Compound
* Motor: 12 V DC Permanent Magnet Type, Fully Enclosed, with Stainless Steel Shaft
* Macerator: Stainless Steel Cutter reduces particlesize to 1/8" (28 mm) maximum
* Seal: Lip Type Port(s): Inlet - 3" (75 mm) RV ConnectorOutlet - Garden Hose - 5/8" minimum
Dimensions: 12" x 13" x 5.5” (carrying case)
Weight: 6 pounds (2.8 kg)
What we like about it:
The Flojet Portable Waste Pump / Macerator exceeded our expectations. We were initially nervous, knowing we were pushing the limits, using a 75’ 3/4” hose to pump our waste uphill (the Floret recommends using a 3/4” inch hose no longer than 50 feet) but we managed to completely dump our blank tank (approx 40-50 gals) in just under 5 minutes.
Note: The 18555-Series waste pump will macerate and pump all waste and tissue normally found in recreational vehicle waste systems. IT WILL NOT HANDLE HARD SOLID OBJECTS, SANITARY NAPKINS OR RAGS.

****Anyone that uses or is going to use this flojet ...it is a great tool!!! BUT here is my experience: after EVERY use spray the inside with ample amount of WD40 and the hose inlet/outlet as well...it will keep this macerator working for a very long time!! If you dont it will usually lock up due to moisture/corrosion issues...the wd40 is a water displacer and really helps keep these things running good!
Thanks for taking the time to inform us. 👍
Fluid Film is my recommendation
@@jimsjacob yes that stuff is good too.....
Thanks for sharing this! We just bought a couple of RV"S and this made it so much easier! I was about to look for someone who pumps out RVS then I ran across your video here on youtube. Just ordered them from you links! Great job!! Cant wait to try it when it comes in tomorrow!
Thank you so very much for the amazing review and explanation! I inherited my dad's RV and there's a lot of things I'm trying figure out what it even is. You made this one the easiest by miles!
Excellent review: concise and informative. A rare gem on YT. Subscribed.
I used one when we were fulltime in an RV on our property during a house remodel. Worked great pumping to a cleanout a couple hundred feet away (downhill).
Thanks for the review! We are not full-time and it will be a great way to do a final dump when we return home to unpack after a trip. Saves a stop at a local dump station and will give plenty of time to flush tanks properly. We have a slightly uphill 50 foot run to our sewer cleanout, which seems well within the capabilities of the pump.
Update: We purchased and used successfully. Motor tends to overheat and stop frequently. (Maybe I'm using too narrow or long a hose.) But it gets the job done, even with some cool-down stops.
Hi Marv, Sorry for delay, I think we ended up talking about this in email. Yes, larger hose diameter should help alot. Perfect solution for this product, being able to dump at home.
So this pumps worked to u in a 50' long slightly uphill hose? This is true?, B cause I need the same but like 10' long, this will solve my problem, waiting for the reply to purchase this! Thanks!
Outstanding presentation. Thank you!
Thank you. Glad you liked it.
Great job, thanks. Plan to pick one up!
Even with a sewage tote, sometimes you just don't have the height from your RV's sewer connection to the tote to adequately empty your tanks. I have one and I'm still considering getting one of these pumps. Thanks for the review. I'd love it if they had an AC powered model.
Great honest review. We ordered our motorhome with the Thetford RV Sani-Con system. The pro is that it is permanently attached and we just flip a switch to use it. The con is that it was a $1400 option compared to $270 for the Flojet, or less than 1/4 the cost.
Thanks for sharing the comparison.
I have been using one for several months, 100 ft 3/4 hose uphill to the toilet and it works great but it is a bit slower at that distance and needs longer to cool off between tanks but it does the job. When I am in my driveway working on the house, it is my only option as there are no dump facilities anywhere near me. If you need it - it is worth the money, otherwise hooking up the Stinky Slinky and pulling a handle is much easier. I run mine off of a Noco GB 150 jump start box and fitted it with the proper connectors for an easy hook up.
I rinse mine off in a bath tub after use so I have not used the flush feature.
Thanks for sharing the feedback. Awesome you run it off your NOCO GB150. We will have to try that, as we have a GB150 also. Love that NOCO.
Hi 👋 ,I'm new on the adventure to live in trailer, I don't know nothing 😀, do you think 200' distance will be ok?
A question, Bill, if I may: Where/how do you dispose when using the toilet? Do you have to continually flush the toilet or does it auto-flush without overflowing? I hope that isn't to "silly."
Y'all Be Safe!
I have been useing one for 2 years, when we stay at my son's house in Florida. Works great.
Awesome. Thank you for your comment. Glad to see it has held up over time.
I just got one of these, and I like it but I have some issues with it. So far it's had no problem pumping 200' through a 5/8" hose. Does that nicely. But I can't tell when it's done. I had a near-full black tank (est 30 gallons) and a full gray tank (est 50-60 gallons) and ran it for about ten minutes or so. I kept checking the end of the hose at the exit and it was still sending stuff out but I was worried about running it dry.
Nice piece of kit.
Tahir Rana 😂😂😂
Good job-- thanks.
I have used this pump with a 5/8 hose (really the hose connectors are about a 3/8 diameter) with 200 feet, and 10 feet elevation incline. It works good. Unless someone in your family eats cherry seeds :( . and at 200 feet the pump will eventually hit its thermal protection normally before you finish a single tank. The pressure the pump pushes is only about 10psi at that distance and size. Large hose would be lower pressure. if you let the pump cool it works again just fine. Im an electrical contractor and from the temps on the motr the thermal trip is very conservative .
A 3/4 true ID hose would have no issue with things like that cherry seed challenge. And use a clear tube before the pump to watch flow, its very important to make sure there are no issues.
Great suggestions - thank you for sharing! And don't swallow those cherry seeds! LOL
Thanks. I would be interested in any 12 V appliance reviews. How do they compare to their 120v couterparts? E.g vacuums
Thank you for the suggestion. Sorry for delay in responding.
Does this have the ability to be wired to a 110 plug? If I want to use this at my house, I would want to plug into the house. Thanks much!!
No. It must be 12 volts. A car battery or trailer battery
Just purchased a Flojet model #18555000A. It must be a newer design because the box says it’s capable of 150’ horizontal distance with a 3/4 inch hose.
Asking a question i pump once a week, but notice that debri is stuck around the blades how do I clear that debri?
Might you know if a 12V lawn tractor battery is sufficient for this pump. I can connect the battery to a battery charger simultaneously to ease the draw down a bit (if necessary), and I will recharge the battery after each use. We just have a 30 gallon combined grey and black tank so the empty time should be fairly fast. Thanks!
I suggest you buy something far more useful than a lawn tractor battery, a good quality jump start pack. (I've owned a JNC for several years after using one a a used car lot, I'm a mechanic.) It's perfect for running all sorts of accessories, including my cable modem and phone charging needs during power outages. It's much more convenient than a battery , of which I have many.
Hello, I am not sure if you check this, but I just tried to install one and need help ASAP. I did exactly as you and the instructions said. I opened my blackwater, went to turn it on and it isn't pumping! I noticed the fuse at the switch was bad, so I replaced that, it still doesnt work... Now I am in a real $$hitty situation I don't know how to fix!
Mine stopped working. No plumbing at home now. Can anybody help?
I heard it slow down then stop, while I was draining my tanks. I closed the valves. It hasn't turned on since when hitting the switch.
I have no handy skills.
Any advice on replacing motor?
Amy advice on replacing whole thing? Electric was hooked up to battery for me, but I do not know how.
Zip ties make a good marker on the hose
Thank's.
I don't have room to hook up my Flojet in my compartment so can I hook up to Rhino sewer hose outside of compartment?
I think the Rhino sewer hose extension (not the main hose) has all of the fittings in the right places to do this.
After using second time the plastic tabs that tighten valve broke off, would not recommend
How does it connect to a portable waste tank?
My homedone unit can go 150'with 8' uphill and only cost $100.
unless you are capping the end of the hose....the pressure is probably very low...
Just about to install one and read that pump must be off immediately tank is empty. Is there an easy way of determining this as there is no warning light. Maybe it makes different sound?
Add a clear connector, you will see when it is empty
Would I need to use the pump/macerator to empty a portable tank that would be in my truck bed or would gravity suffice?
gravity is usually fine for that.
mine didn't come with the end cap :-(
Great Presentation. When the tank is empty and you turn off the flojet, what happens to the waste that is in the hose especially since you were pumping it uphill?
Good that you asked. It is a very good idea to 'walk' the hose up to where you empty before disconnecting from the RV or else you could get some back-flow.
Drain hose by hand .ie. disconnect pump end pinch hose lift hose high open pinch walk hump to drain end
MMMMMMmmm....Chocolate Margarita...
Mmmmm indeed.
Where can I get replacement (repair) parts for this Macerator?
There is a parts list inc
These are really cool devices. One thing I'm unclear on is how do you clean this up without a fresh water supply?
My guess would be the same way you clean a regular sewer hose: run your grey tank through it after dumping the black tank.
I was just thinking of putting it back into the case and in the coach with the waste in the impeller but I guess the gray water would help with that.
Yep, we run our gray water through it, and then if planning on storing until I have access to fresh water again for more thorough clean.
Well if your black and grey are full and your fresh is empty, and your dumping, how would you be refilling your fresh tank anyway?
And the grey water is not really all that clean. Of course the garden hose drain hose is dedicated to just this purpose and not to be used for fresh water.
A grey water flush is better than leaving just black in it, but it is intended to have a fresh water flush for both the pump and the drainhose before storage.
I have read through all of theses comments and still have a concern. I bought and have been using this poop-monster for the last three months, it solves a weekly duty of emptying our RV that we live in where we have no service and instead have to hit 125 feet uphill 2 feel to a house we are parked at. It handles everything like a champ, once it overheated and then started back up no problem 10 min later. I understand that it’s a conservative setting for the overheating of the pump I read that - good information. But what happens when it actually does take a dump...(pardon the pun):)? I wonder if anyone else has come up with a fitting combination or some other solution, because I fear some unfortunate future day it will stop in the middle of the job...at that point then what?
Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad it has worked so well for you. If it ever fully failed. I would walk the hose lifting it up to allow gravity to move the fluids at least a couple times at that length before disconnecting at the source to replace with a new unit.
Follow Mfg suggestions. Dont exceed the lenght.
Motor seizes after a few uses, been through 3 already. Trying a new brand.
Hmmm that's odd, did you contact the company?
Can you use this in a permanent setup?
Maybe, but it definitely looks like a attach-use-detach situation. Thetford makes the Sani-Con waste macerate pump system and has a few options that can be permanently mounted depending on your RV type and waste dump facility configuration. You’ll want to look at that for a variety of solutions.
since you're not supposed to run this dry, is there some obvious telltale "sign" (sound, etc.) that tells you that it IS EMPTY?
Use a clear connector between the macerator and the rv connection. You’ll be able to see when the tank stops draining.
Bayonet connections are horrible. Cam Lock should be the knew norm.
I have heard a few folks talking about cam lock lately. Maybe they are catching on.

... or right onto the ground when nobody’s lookin. 👍
bad form
Grey water is ok in some instances, but never black water.
This seems more like an add than a review. For one thing don’t used the word “perfect”. That’s nonsense. No product is perfect. Also seeing is believing. You should have demonstrated the product.
Was real interested on how this worked until I saw you crimping solderless connections with needle-nose pliers. That's when you lost me... Shut the video off right there! Gonna be blunt... I can't take instructions from someone that doesn't even do everything correctly in their own videos!!!
Way to much rambling..
